It now cost's 15+$ for 3 packs of Marlboro's.
Smokes that cost me 2 dollars a pack now cost me 3.45$ a pack.

Now lets have the argument/debate.

If smoking causes such a strain on the tax payer's...Via medical bills ect..
As with obesity.

Why not tax sex?
It cost's the tax payer's million's a year.
STD'S
Hiv
All the tax payer's pick up the bill for people who have unprotected sex.
If they are unable to afford med's.

So If your argument is it cost's Tax payers money for smoker's and fat people.
Let's not be a hypocrite TAX SEX now.

Also those car's you drive put of enough toxicant's to collapse your lung instantly if ya put ya mouth to the muffler.

To help pay for the environment and medical care there death bringing car's bring.
From wreck's from uninsured motor's.
That cause disability..then they draw a check for life..off you.
ECT. ECT.

Why do we pick and choose which habit is taxable to the point it's quit /stop eating drinking...to other's.
Every one has it bad point's.

We as American's are being taxed to death .

Obama's low income tax stimulus...HAHAHHAH
We save 8 dollars a pay check.
They raise tobacco up 1.45 a pack .
We lost money.
If you are low income and smoke that is.

Now they are gonna start taxing junk food ect..
More of that BIG 8 dollars a paycheck.

OBAMA you lied to me and the American people.

You promised one thing and flat put a hurting on us lower income people that smoke eat fast food.

I heard on a news talk radio show here that there was mention of a "Pole Tax." This would tax people that went to strip joints, 5 dollars at the door to get in. In addition to this raising the tax on beer and alcohol. These types of taxes they are labeling as Sin Taxes.

A sin tax? Wow...that one got me to laugh. How about we tax all those congressmen/woman who 'sin' by telling lies, sin by taking advantage of people/things, etc. We could make a fortune off them alone!

en.wikipedia.org...

No taxation without representation" began as a slogan in the period 1763–1776 that summarized a primary grievance of the British colonists in the Thirteen Colonies. In short, many in those colonies believed the lack of direct representation in the distant British Parliament was an illegal denial of their rights as Englishmen, and therefore laws taxing the colonists (the kind of law that affects the most individuals directly), and other laws applying only to the colonies, were unconstitutional. In recent times, it has been used by several other groups in several different countries over similar disputes.

Myself feel Now more than ever they are no Representing me Nor the average American.

So this slogan need's to start being said again.

You have it all wrong, they are in place to control and moderate us. You cannot look to them and say they do anything wrong. The proverbial Do as I say not as I do. Congress operating at 1 billion dollars a day to come up with more ways to take care of the lazy, illegal ( i am sorry "Undocumented") people of this country at your expense.

I wonder if they truly realize that the poor are the ones most affected by most of these taxes. Yet another way for them to keep people poor. More people at or below the poverty line are the smokers and drinkers and eat crap food. Trying to eat "healthy" is way more expensive than eating fast food crap. Unless you grow your own of course.

Well, I imagine the medical problems that come from unprotected sex probably pale in comparison to that of smoking cigarettes and our increasingly fatter citizens, BUT I do understand where you're going with this and to an extent, you've got a point. Realistically speaking, however, having sex isn't always associated with buying a product like with smoking or eating fast food, so it would be very difficult to tax accurately.

I think some facets of the government just look for ways to bring in additional tax revenue, and others genuinely think they're doing a good job by taxing things like cigarettes and fast food in the hopes that people will quit using them.

No, we as minorities are being taxed to death. Cigarette smokers are the minority and nobody really cares if they raise the tax on cigs which is obvious since my packs just went up to $4.55 from $3.95

They could take a page from Australia, they are taxing for every flush of the toilet there. That could accomplish the same thing. I can't believe you people still have money. So many ways the government can put there hands in your pocket. So many exciting opportunities to make you pay!! God i love socialist America!

I agree with taxes on tobacco, alcohol, junk food, gas and any products or services which contribute to higher costs for essential services such as health care.

If you want to partake in your vice, so be it, however you should shoulder a larger financial burden.

I choose not to smoke, eat junk, drive a car, or visit strip clubs. When I choose to drink a glass of wine, I do so with the full knowledge that my glass of wine is taxed.

I do not understand why anyone could argue that this is wrong?

By the way, I'm not wealthy and I manage to eat healthy. I also manage not to smoke ( most of the time, still struggle everyday to be honest, damn hard habit to kick) .

We are so reactionary we fail to see the flip side of the coin. What about all the healthcare we are paying for when these hedonistic gluttons stuff their faces, smoke and drink. Tax away on tobacco, I think its great. I used to be addicted to the stuff and put thousands of dollars into big tobacco because I WAS PHYSICALLY ADDICTED to their product. Talk about unfair.

So, I'm supposed to be enticed by this to buy diet drinks with artificial sweeteners that taste like crap and probably have side effects that we aren't yet aware of?

F* that.

Tobacco and alcohol? MAYBE. I don't use either, but I respect that some people do. Smoking is an extraneous habit that does cause problems for the user and those around them with no benefit. It could be argued that alcohol is similar in that respect if you take into account alcohol related violence/accidents. But what is an unhealthy diet doing to anyone except the person that eats/drinks the food? Indirectly maybe it's affecting others by putting undue strain on the insurance companies, medical establishment, etc. but not everyone that buys a soda is an obese slob.

I think the citizens should be able to tax the government. Want me to work and be a productive member of society? I'm going to charge my employer a "get off my ass" tax that they can pass off to the government as a "hey, we created some jobs" tax. Then we can also tax the government for allowing them the right to tax us. I tangented there. sorry.

Anyway, I probably need to get this checked out by a doc, but if I don't keep some real sugar in me I get a little belligerent. Like it or not, the body does need some form of sugar to survive - do artificial sweeteners take care of this? All I know is when my blood sugar gets low, shotgunning a soda holds me off pretty well until I can get some food cooked.

If they really wanted to tax sex as a poster was talking about all they need to do is tax and type of birth control and they pretty much have you unless your planning on having kids. Then they could take it one step further and give tax breaks if a person buys an inflatable doll because it's obvious then chances are they are not going to be with another person to transmit something too them (with exceptions of course).

That being said for years now I've been wondering about all this taxation we get and what the founders of the US would have done about it in their day.

www.fueleconomy.gov...

Since gasoline is about 87% carbon and 13% hydrogen by weight, the carbon in a gallon of gasoline weighs 5.5 pounds (6.3 lbs. x .87). We can then multiply the weight of the carbon (5.5 pounds) by 3.7, which equals 20 pounds of CO2!

Thats one gallon of gas your car burn's.

Now i am no scientist here...
But the amount 1 smoke lit next to you..would Be so small.untraceable.
Compared to the 20 pounds of carbon monoxide your car put's out for 1 gallon of gas.

So how can every one still say 2nd hand smoking is what caused your lung cancer.
Odd's are more in favor your car my car ect.. is causing it not some poor fool walking down the street smoking a cigarette .

I bet you anything that smoke that guy beside you is smoking.
Is less deadly to you than the car you drove there in.

It's like a car thief getting mad his car got stole.
People driving car's are worse on mankind than a smoker ever will be.

And it still cost's you less for a gallon of gas than a pack of smoke.
Because smoking is evil.

I am so P@@@d about this tax I can't see straight. As if I don't have enough stress trying to pay my bills, now I can't even smoke to relieve the stress. I made a vow that ANY politician I meet, I'm going to punch him in the face and claim it was tobacco withdrawal stress

Hehehe sex tax. who do these morons think they are. I myself am pro smoking. These taxes are just another way for the government to screw us and make a little money on the side. Wouldn't surprise me if one day they did find a way to tax people for having sex. I'm not just talking hooker prices either.

Are you seriously getting mad about taxing cigarrettes and diet soft drinks?

The beauty of these things are is: they are completely optional.

I don't know anyone whose life will truley suffer as a result of not having cigarrettes or diet coke.

Though I do resent a tax on diet soft drinks being called the obesity tax because people drink it for different reasons. Seems silly. If anything, the non diet soft drinks should be called the obesity tax.

Speaking of taxes, Lets do away with all the wasteful spending with congress critters.

How about all the food congress waste on a daily basis.

How about charging Lobbyist to pay a tax every time they visit the congress, that will pay for the wasted taxpayers money,

With Pelosi demanding her Luxury USAF jets, let do away with them to, congress can take a flight just like the rest of us.

These people in congress can and will do anything they please regardless of what the people says. Its un-telling what other taxes and harm they have passed that the people have not found out about yet.

Here is another one they just passed, 'automatic pay raise each year for congress'.

Funding for 'Swine Oder Research', How about 'Congress Oder Research'. One could probably slip this in, and congress will pass it. They never read these bills anyway.

Everyone Remember NAFTA or GATT (forgot which one), One guy out of all of congress read the bill, Sen Brown I believe read it all.

Just venting everyone but seriously folks when will it ever stop.

It never will stop because Congress is a bunch of hogs at the trough and the American Taxpayer keeps filling the trough. They don't give a D@@n about you, or your wants and needs. They only care about their lobbyists filling their pockets and whats in it for them.
