It's an American comedy about a lower middle-class couple who dress and act like high-school students (like an emotionally-stunted version of Roseanne). The husband is a deliveryman for the "International Parcel Service" and the wife is a secretary. The two are a pair of well-intentioned goofballs with no real prospects for personal growth. They have an empty nest, although the wife's weirdo father lives with them.

The show's underlying frame may have been that high school-age children (recent high school dropouts?) are capable of keeping a comfortable household, as long as they remain childless and aspire to a mediocre lifestyle, bordering on socialism.

There's another, more sinister, overtone that the wife was molested and is unable to escape her abuser.

Conversely, it might be attempting to validate adolescent behavior in 30-something adults.

DALE GOT HULK HANDS?

That won't really make much sense unless you've seen Step Brothers, which I think if you had you'd have a field day over it.

Huh

Its a sitcom made for entertainment purposes....do you have any sources to back up your claims?

And Leah Remini is hoooooooot, which is another reason to watch the show

Man Leah Remini is so hot, did you see her on Letterman a few years ago (yeah I remember)? She had this dress on that was slit up to the wasit and was low cut.

My wife is beautiful too.

it's just another tasteless unoriginal show that has a fat man with an attractive woman. the husband is degrading and insulting and the wife laps it up. i hope to god that it is a conspiracy, because if anyone actually chose to put that on tv because they liked it could possibly be too much for me to handle.

2 1/2 men is another example of retardation at it's finest. even the laugh tracks know they're stupid. same as the first show, they had to dig real deep to find co-stars that are dumber and less charming than the stars.

my gf watches tv so i end up seeing htis nonsense. just wanted to say.

the all time king of retardation is family guy though. you just can't beat the best. i can feel my brain melting when that show comes on.

Yes, Leah Remini is a hotty. Loved the episode when she sprayed some sort of air freshener in Doug's eyes. I don't care if there's some underlying conspiracy to it. I enjoyed it with great pleasure. I knew it was good because my wife didn't like it.

Actually its the wife who is degrading and insulting. You should know what you are insulting. The husband is fat because she insults him which drives him to eat, even though he was fat before they met.

Lighten up and watch it. Its a funny show. The dad who lives with them (Jerry Stiller) is the funniest thing I have seen since Georges dad on Seinfield (same person).

Leah Remini is pathetic! www.google.com... Her struggles were actually televised on a lifestyle show and then parodied by a late n ight show (Leah Remini struggles to wean her daughter away from the baby bottle. And why the hell do you need to see this?)

Whatever happened to good ole' spanking?

I see where the OP is coming from. It's almost the same regurgitated trash over and over. I don't know every show and yes there are some entertaining ones out there. What I have noticed is the "sitcoms" or what ever the show is called where it has the laughter built in is the worst.

*applause*
*applause*

Its like they know the show is too stupid for people so they inject the laughter in to MAKE you think it is suppose to be funny.

Cancel your cable. Sell your TV.

Lol, are you kidding me? I LOVE that show, it is definitely up there amongst one of the most hilarious programs ever. Just the other day I saw the Episode where Doug purchased an Ice Cream truck from an Older Gentleman. Then after he ended up on another Ice Cream Truck Drivers turf, he started being stalked by, and was eventually chased off the road by the rival Ice Cream Truck Lol

Nuh-uh...

Actually, I believe that to be an accurate observation and a dominant motivation behind many of the dominant sitcoms, especially the sitcoms geared for the young crowd (Disney Channel). The shows tend to focus on social situations and are always goofy renditions et cetera which always end in a happy fuzzy feel good moment reinforcing traditional family values.

Again, good observation and one that I think speaks more towards the 'monkey see, monkey do' aspect of human behavioural tendencies then one would be inclined to agree with at first glance...and I further think that it is intentional.

On a side note, I am of the opinion that TV need not be as evil as this thread seems to imply. If one recognizes what is going on and views television with an analytical eye it is a great tool to 'reverse engineer' the advertising tactics and human psychology...to an extent.

It still needs to be balanced with other forms of media and actual human interaction

Her kind of parenting skills are one of the reasons why I want America to fail.

When America finally bites the dust, she won't be a able to get a job (cause she's a plain jane/non A list material) and she'll get fat.

Meh, she's pretty but not all that hot. She started getting chunky even while the show was on.

Even so I thought it was a very funny show. I remember the ice cream truck ep. Also, the one where he gets the apt. above the chinese food store just to have a place to hang out. Hilarious.

The show itself is a routine comedy with the usual sitcom plots, but Kevin James is funny on the show. The problem is, he is the only one who is really funny.
