No, I meant regulation Bush-style. This is from the NYT:

sayanythingblog.com...

A reader sends along this New York Times article written by Stephen Labaton and published on September 11th, 2003:

The Bush administration today recommended the most significant regulatory overhaul in the housing finance industry since the savings and loan crisis a decade ago.

Under the plan, disclosed at a Congressional hearing today, a new agency would be created within the Treasury Department to assume supervision of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the government-sponsored companies that are the two largest players in the mortgage lending industry.

The new agency would have the authority, which now rests with Congress, to set one of the two capital-reserve requirements for the companies. It would exercise authority over any new lines of business. And it would determine whether the two are adequately managing the risks of their ballooning portfolios.

The plan is an acknowledgment by the administration that oversight of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac—which together have issued more than $1.5 trillion in outstanding debt—is broken.

And guess who opposed it??

Guess who opposed this new regulation? Homebuilders, who didn’t want it to get more difficult to get a home loan, and Democrats who didn’t want to go back on their demands that everyone (including people who couldn’t afford it) should own a home.

Among the groups denouncing the proposal today were the National Association of Home Builders and Congressional Democrats who fear that tighter regulation of the companies could sharply reduce their commitment to financing low-income and affordable housing.

’‘These two entities—Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac—are not facing any kind of financial crisis,’’ said Representative Barney Frank of Massachusetts, the ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee. ‘‘The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing.’‘

Representative Melvin L. Watt, Democrat of North Carolina, agreed.

’‘I don’t see much other than a shell game going on here, moving something from one agency to another and in the process weakening the bargaining power of poorer families and their ability to get affordable housing,’’ Mr. Watt said.

I'm not trying to re-write history (that was actually funny). I'm just stating the facts of history.

Making it worse -

News Story Here

Obama Failing on the Economy

President Obama and Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner received failing grades for their efforts to revive the economy from participants in the latest Wall Street Journal forecasting survey. ....

On average, they gave the president a mark of 59 out of 100, and although there was a broad range of marks, 42 percent of respondents graded Obama below 60. Geithner fared even worse, with an average grade of 51. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke scored better, with an average 71.

"The Obama team has blown it," said David Resler of Nomura Securities.

They especially didn't like his plans for the banking sector.
They gave it a
. It will make things worse.

I have to agree that making bigger government amid a economic recession and perhaps bordering on Depression will not help anymore either.

While I agree that the big mortgage giants needs to be regulated and they do fall under government assistance that should be the job within congress, no a new government agency/private group.

As usual somebody will be making the money and is not going to be reaped by tax payer.

Still Obamas approach to the economic given the circumstances has its pros and cons, for once the bail out of the financial first with so much emphasis just show the power of the Federal Reserve when it comes to satisfying the shady powers that they serve.

This should be a big eye opening for everybody in this nation.

Still Obamas while bending to the power of Bernanke and his banking cartel is doing an effort to reach the tax payer needs.

But as usual congress on the other hand has its own priorities to feed and those do not included the main street.

We in this nation are facing the struggle that is going on in a government that is not just one government after all.

We have powers pulling from the Federal Reserve, Powers pulling from the congress and then the power pulling from executive branch.

Trust me people our government is nothing but a big bad joke and American is not even for the Americans anymore, we are govern by global banking elites and they are priority.

Sorry Flyers but that is no been realistic, The economy was already heading to getting worst and unemployment to highest numbers because what has been going on since the mortgage bubble crash in July of 2007.

The domino effect of that littler fact is not brainier.

If McCain has won the elections would you claim that was his fault also? I know Democrats would be having a ball by now.

While I agree on that, you can not go over the Power of the Federal Reserve and their global banking cartel, as long as they hold this nations economy by the balls they will call the shots of who is going to be saved over whom

They haven't gotten worse under Obama because of Obama. They got worse because Obama has to try and fix the stuff Bush did. Bush screwed it up, Obama is trying to fix it. Stop yelling at the repair man and blame the drunken guy who put his foot through the screen of your telly.

Can a president be impeached for sheer incompetence? If so, Obama should be impeached at the end of his 100 day 'honeymoon'.

Today marks Day 50 of his administration. In that short period of time, he has managed to commit almost a blunder a day. If he were to receive a mid-term grade, it would be a solid F.

Some of his more egregious blunders:

During the first month of his administration, he spent more than Bush did on two wars, and Katrina relief and rebuilding

He has committed diplomatic blunders with UK PM Gordon Brown

He has proposed taxes that will cause an inflationary spiral, when imposed

He has committed to an assault weapon ban

He has targeted private citizens for disagreeing with his policies

He has broken campaign promises on hiring lobbyists

He has broken campaign promises on stopping partisanship

He has used porkulus and earmarks to pay back his political cronies

He has supported the Card Check bill, which eliminates the secret ballot in union votes

He has proposed sitting down with the Taliban

He wants to plunge this nation into a socialist economy.

He is losing support from the electorate every day. Even his loudest supporters are abandoning him. It won't be long before the Democratic Congress turns against him, as the 2010 elections approach.

People were warned about his lack of experience. His incompetence, however, outdoes any lack thereof.

And you forgot one more reason he should be Impeached,
I don't know if you've noticed, but He's BLACK....

Hell not, Obama is not black he is only half black, this so funny, I had a friend that is a very southern lady very white indeed and very proud of that fact, she said to me yesterday like she just found out that "Obama was not all black."

Her face lighted up when like she just came to the realization of that Fact.

I just could not hold my laughter and tried to just keep my face straight.

But heck this the south anything can be possible.

Wow. I don't know what's harder to comprehend - your post, or the fact that people starred you.

What exactly do you mean? Please clarify.

P.S Ive been reading alot of NY times, CNN, Fox News, there seems to be a lot of buyers remorse all the way around for voting for this guy, pretty telling.

Deny Ignorance indeed

Seriously? CNN and FOX...wow, you have a wealth of knowledge and straightforward facts. I bet there are "some who think" that Obama is not doing a good job and "many who say" that he needs to change his approach to the economic down-turn.

Gosh, you're right. A liberal like me really can't deny strong, well-cited facts like the ones you hear on FOX and CNN. They are all just so fair and balanced, you know, announcing a new topic by taking an extreme-angled interpretation of it. Oh, and the way the cover really important topics like John Stewart v. Kramer and the Octomom lady...oh and the new mini-I-pod...it's just all such relevant reporting that really has to do with my life and what's going on the world...If I don't watch the news everynight I won't have the new 5 important things I need to shout at people who don't know the same things I know - cause I watched the network news - when I'm at a bar or at work.

YEAH! I'm an informed consumer...I mean citizen! YEAH!

(I don't ever read NY Times so I will have no sarcastic comment about that...however, if the NYT is not citing the people talking like FOX and the other networks tend not to do - then newspapers are becoming really lazy because they don't even have pop songs and flashy designs to distract you and fill the empty time).

There's a difference between hard news and analysis. Every channel has some bias, but they are about equal as far as hard news goes. Fox at least attempts to balance discussions with viewpoints from both sides.

So what if Fox leans right with it's analysis? You can always counter that by switching to MSNBC and watching Olbermann, Matthews, or Maddow.

Or, you could read the uber-liberal NYT.

Fox News and both sides do not belong in the same sentence. The one person they had that wasn't a rabid right winger left because he got tired of being told to stfu by the other host.

A friend just sent me this email that he got off the internet. Now this is scary!!

Sieg Heil, Mein Fuhrer!

"My son, who is in 1st grade, came home yesterday saying that he didn’t want to go back to school anymore. So I asked him why? He said that during the Pledge of Allegiance the teacher put up a large image of Obama next to the flag. I asked him if he was sure of this and I suggested to him that maybe the teacher just put up an 8x10 photo of the president. He said, “No, it is a large picture of Obama and when we are done Ms. **** turns off the image.” I also asked if they did this for Bush last year. He again said, “No.” This was my son’s first day back to school since before Christmas, he was on a 5 week track break.

My wife volunteers a couple of days each week with helping out with my son’s teacher doing various duties. She said that she would come in early this morning to see what was going on. She just got back and reported that this was true and then some. She said she waited out in the pod area and could see inside 3 of the 5 class rooms in this section of school. She said that when the kids stand each teacher flips on the classroom overhead and a full body image of Obama, with six U.S. flags behind him, comes up about 4 feet away from the flag that hangs on the wall. She said that the image has Obama staring straight at you with no facial expressions, just a serious look.

I asked my wife if Obama had his hand over his heart. She said that she was so taken aback by this that she didn’t see it. What is worse is she said that all of the kids in each class faced Obama instead of the flag that hangs in the corner. This is happening in the Clark County School District here in Las Vegas, Henderson area." Posted 02/12 at 01:10 PM

I already said the economy was in bad shape when Obama took over.
But he is making it worse by his own actions.

Sure the TV is broken .. but when the repair man doesnt' know what he's doing and he breaks even more pieces ... he's making it worse.

I already posted what the economists said from the Wall Street Journal on this. They gave Obama a failing grade on the economy.

Chris Wallace, Mort Kondracke, Kirsten Powers, Bob Beckel, Lanny Davis, Geraldo Rivera.

There's a half-dozen off the top of my head.

After reading over this thread, and seeing several people make statements such as "the proof is out there, just go look," I thought I"d chime in with something established a long time ago, namely "necessitas probandi incumbit ei qui agit," which translates into "the necessity of proof lies with he who complains." The person making a claim bears the burden of proof, not the people to whom the claim is made.

If you make a controversial statement, be prepared to provide evidence thereof YOURSELF. Do not deride people who ask for facts or evidence; and certainly don't send them on a quest to find something you believe is self-evident, for if proof of a claim is readily available, then provide access to it.

This applies to ANY thread where statements such as "just google it" are made, not just this one.
