Does anyone know of any military bases around the southern end of Dallas, TX I grew up in this area and I haven't a clue as to what might be down
here.
The reason for asking is I just a saw a CH-47 Chinook or a similiar type craft, Black and it was flying pretty low to the ground. I told my girlfriend
and she told me that they have been flying around all morning. One I can dismiss but 3-4 that just makes me all the more curious.
Just figured I would mention it to see if anyone has heard anything and im taking my camera outside to see if I catch any on film.
Oh and this is in Lancaster, TX and where located about 10 miles or so south of Dallas.

answers.yahoo.com...
NAS JRB Fort Worth.
(Naval Air Station, Joint Reserve Base)
I saw three fighter jets fly into Love Field about 2 months ago... I thought it was a little odd.

It could also be from Bell Helicopter located in Hurst. Maybe doing some testing.
Other than the NAS that was mentioned there is also Lockheed in Ft. Worth but I wouldn't think it would be from there. Probably out of Bell unless
something else is going on...never know.

I haven't seen the black helicopters but on Saturday I did see a huge B-52 circling low in the North Dallas/Richardson area.

I grew up in South Oak Cliff and ran around a lot in Lancaster and other suburban towns and communities in that area..... There is a Naval air Station
on the North side of Mountain Creek Lake and there was a National Guard Armory near Duncanville and DeSoto, close to I-35, but I don't know if they
are still active.... In the mid fifties there was an insane amount of aircraft of all sorts in the sky all of the time in that area.... I am located
100 miles S.E. of your area and I have noticed numerous flights of military helicopters in this area recently, but that has been the case off and on
for the last 15 years.

On my version of Google Earth, there are 7 Chinooks on the tarmac at the old Dallas NAS near Mountain Creek lake.
They fly around all the time, no biggie.

More than likely it's the TANG's Peace Prairie program that they use to train RSAF Chinook crews. These choppers are based at Grand Prairie
AASF/Heliport, as can be see by google earth.
The Grand Prairie AASF and an Armed Forces Reserve Center are the only remaining elements that did not close with NAS Dallas.
Because the RSAF has very limited airspace they train all elements of their Air Forces in the USA. F-16 training is performed at two USAF bases and
the Chinooks train out of Grand Prairie. This is why the RSAF was available to help during Katrina.
They could have been Choppers going to/fro Ft Hood but those would typically be Kiowa's, Apache's, and Blackhawks. I would be willing to bet that
they were part of Peace Prairie.
HTH,
Don

I've been increasingly annoyed by the high rate of low flying traffic of all types of aircraft directly over my house.. I live in Dallas not too far
from love field. Makes me wish i had magneto's power. (or the money to be flying these things for fun without fear of being caught up in the
system.)
