Does anyone know of any military bases around the southern end of Dallas, TX I grew up in this area and I haven't a clue as to what might be down here.

The reason for asking is I just a saw a CH-47 Chinook or a similiar type craft, Black and it was flying pretty low to the ground. I told my girlfriend and she told me that they have been flying around all morning. One I can dismiss but 3-4 that just makes me all the more curious.

Just figured I would mention it to see if anyone has heard anything and im taking my camera outside to see if I catch any on film.

Oh and this is in Lancaster, TX and where located about 10 miles or so south of Dallas.

It could also be from Bell Helicopter located in Hurst. Maybe doing some testing.
Other than the NAS that was mentioned there is also Lockheed in Ft. Worth but I wouldn't think it would be from there. Probably out of Bell unless something else is going on...never know.

I haven't seen the black helicopters but on Saturday I did see a huge B-52 circling low in the North Dallas/Richardson area.

I grew up in South Oak Cliff and ran around a lot in Lancaster and other suburban towns and communities in that area..... There is a Naval air Station on the North side of Mountain Creek Lake and there was a National Guard Armory near Duncanville and DeSoto, close to I-35, but I don't know if they are still active.... In the mid fifties there was an insane amount of aircraft of all sorts in the sky all of the time in that area.... I am located 100 miles S.E. of your area and I have noticed numerous flights of military helicopters in this area recently, but that has been the case off and on for the last 15 years.

ok that might explain it Bell and the various other places I just thought it was odd, I did see two more around I-20 today around 1pm hovering and flying about lol.

I guess I'm just paranoid today lol

Man, I havent seen a single thing except aeroplanes! I live in carrollton FarmersBranch area couple miles north of Dallas. I havent seen anything odd lately.

On my version of Google Earth, there are 7 Chinooks on the tarmac at the old Dallas NAS near Mountain Creek lake.

They fly around all the time, no biggie.

I've been increasingly annoyed by the high rate of low flying traffic of all types of aircraft directly over my house.. I live in Dallas not too far from love field. Makes me wish i had magneto's power. (or the money to be flying these things for fun without fear of being caught up in the system.)

Without getting too specific, I live just north west of Allen. This has been going on for years now; averaging two or three times a week (sometimes more, rarely less). The first time I noticed, I was actually out in the yard and it was between midnight and 1 am - this was about 1997 (going from memory). It caught my attention because they passed pretty much right over my house and I'd estimate they were about 500' AGL. There were two Hueys, one behind the other, the second slightly higher than the lead helicopter. No nav lights on whatsoever, and as far as I could tell, no glow from cockpit lights either. And while it was dark, they appeared to be painted black rather than OD green. Now a little about me so you can {hopefully} tell I'm not a "crazy". I'm an ex-Army officer (artillery, Vietnam era); I hold a commercial/multi-engine/instrument rating pilots license and I worked for Bell Helicopter for several years (some time ago). So I know a little about aviation and know what I saw. This interesting occurrence still continues to this day. That first time was the only time I saw two helicopters flying together; ever since then, it's only been a single helicopter that overflys the area. The direction is always the same; the helicopter is flying at a pretty good cruise speed, from west to east (maybe slightly southeast) and I'd estimate the altitude at always less than 1,000 AGL. And it's always late at night. For the past two nights it's been at 2:02 am and last night at 2:04 am (even with the time change). The older I've gotten the lighter I sleep (along with eyesight that's not what it used to be) - but I can hear it approach the house and they continue to fly at a pretty good clip, so it's gone in just an instant. Pretty sure it's not a Huey any more and not even sure it's the same paint scheme that I originally saw 10+ years ago. But it continues to fascinate me that there is this single helicopter that's making a fairly low pass, always west to east, at roughly 2 am and has been doing so for years now. I don't know where it comes from or where it's going to.... maybe if someone has a friend in local ATR, they could answer this question for me?

Seeing quite a few here lately at el paso, of course el paso has fort bliss, but a lot of strange anomalies seem to be happening here lately. One relating to this topic directly is about military helicopters flying over my house, Yesterday, I saw something coming towards the house as I was looking out the kitchen window, I didn't want to look crazy and run outside trying to see what it was, so I stayed at the window, as it got closer, in front of it was another helicopter, no lights nothing [this was during night time around 7pm] so I suggested to myself that maybe its lights just failed and the other helicopter was escorting him back to base, but It got about 200ft away and either my eyes are lying, i was just hallucinating, or idk. but the helicopter with no lights just disappeared, no clouds were out, was a clear night for once, the other helicopter kept going, I could see it fly from a great distance. Obviously I have no supporting evidence for my case, so I just thought I would share it here if it relates to anything you have been witnessing lately.
