Found this article on new scientists.

They say that the new disks are made of paper and is good because that they are recyclable. And if you don't want the DVD anymore then you can cut it up with scissors.

www.newscientist.com...

The resulting prototype consists of 51 per cent paper but is still capable of storing up to 25 gigabytes of data. Regular DVDs have less than half this capacity.

it would be good to follow the development of the blue laser and how the defense dept may apply it's different wavelength to projects.

Awesome, we just keep dishing out more and more energy efficient ways of doing things and increasing our portable mass storage devices at the same time. Bonus!

Is the piece of paper protected by some kind of Plastic coating? Cuz if the disc got wet, It would become completely useless right?

I'm a little concerned about these blue ray discs

Sure they are amazing pieces of techonology. 25GB is a lot...

But how are you going to convince the rest of america or the world to drop your red laser discs and go to blue laser discs when we haven't even totally gotten rid of VHS yet... DVDs are still pretty new.
