Chavez: "Come Obama, ally with us on the path to socialism"

www.bloomberg.com

“I recommend to Obama -- they ’re criticizing him because they say he’s moving towards socialism -- come Obama, ally with us on the path to socialism, it’s the only road.” Chavez comments on President Obama and the US economy. He made the remarks today on Venezuelan state television. “Imagine a socialist revolution in the US. Nothing is impossible."

Wow ... seems like a lot of people really think the U.S. is heading towards socialism ... i'm not gonna disagree, he doesn't really have to make the offer obama seems to like the way he's doing it already, but that's just my opinion, everyone has their own so don't bash mine ... very interesting though that Chavez of all people say this ... i think it's kind of funny that we're being offered to be endorsed by a loony ...

I wont bash your opinion, but I will ask you just what has Obama done that wasnt happening already? It was a Republican President who began the bailout process. Obama just voted for it and inherited it.

And dont be fooled by Republicans now not voting for things. That is a political ploy. They know they can afford not to, and still have the bailout. That way the program their party started can be wholly blamed on the Dems if and when it fails. If I recall, it was the Republicans as well as the Dems who were harping on about how crucial this all was when McCain stopped his campaign to fly to Washington to "help" (grandstand) it get pushed through.

If those Republicans for one minute felt that their not voting would stop the bailout they would vote for it. They are positioning themselves for the next election. Thats all. They want their bailout money and to look like they are innocent in the whole thing too.

They heard the emails etc. that crashed the Washington servers, and now that that ball is rolling and will not be stopped, they are pretending that they had nothing to do with it. So they get more votes next election. When it was their party who was on the watch when it became necessary, and their Party who was stumping like mad for it before the election. You have to be willfully blind not to see what they are doing. Not that the Dems wouldnt be doing the same thing if they were in that position. They would. Politicians are by and large, a bunch of lying self serving whores. (And I mean that literally, they sell their selves for money)

America has never been a pure capitalist country. Never has. It has always been a mixed economy. (Part free market with social spending) Look it up. There never has been a purely capitalist country anywhere. The problem with our country is that most of our "social" spending is not spent on humans, but on Corporations. (And I include in spending subsidies, as well as much of our military spending which is done on behalf of business interests.) Which is not capitalism. Thats not Obama's fault. Thats the fault of politicians from both parties for decades back.

Thanks for excessively typing out your response to my opinion, but this thread was posted to discuss Chavez's statement, "Come Obama, ally with us on the path to socialism" not my opinion.

This man is truly wacked out. "Millions of workers are being left in the street, thousands of companies are closing, in the U.S. there isn’t a single new infrastructure project. Go look for a highway there, the country has gone bust."

What the??

Well, for one, he's nationalized several banks already and he's about to institution a national healthcare program and he's already said that his goal is to be America's Robin Hood. Oh, that's three. Sorry

Post a link showing he has nationalized several banks. I did a google search and found nothing of the sort. Oh, and please, make it a reputable source, not a "because I say so" blog of some kind.

www.npr.org...

Morning Edition, March 6, 2009 · The debate over whether the U.S. government will end up nationalizing the banks is usually presented as an either/or proposition — either the government takes over the banks to keep them from becoming insolvent or it leaves the banks in private hands.

The Obama administration seems to be working on a subtler approach, somewhere between the two. As Planet Money correspondent Adam Davidson tells Steve Inskeep, the official word is clear: The Obama administration and Federal Reserve officials say that nationalizing the banks is the wrong choice and that they have no intention of doing it.

www.cnsnews.com...

“This administration continues to strongly believe that a privately held banking system is the correct way to go, ensuring they are regulated sufficiently by this government,” Gibbs told reporters. “That’s been our belief for quite some time, and we continue to have it.”

If you mean this;

www.bloomberg.com...

U.S. regulators led by the Treasury Department announced today that the government stands ready to take bigger bank stakes in the form of shares that “would be converted only as needed over time.” To analysts including Paul Miller of Friedman, Billings, Ramsey Group Inc., nationalization of some of the nation’s largest lenders appears well under way. The government already holds $52 billion of preferred shares in Citigroup, five times the bank’s market value as of Feb. 20.

What is wrong with the taxpayer having some stock in the institution it is bailing out? Or are we expected to just hand over money with no paper? What do you think "stock" is? Do you even know? It is paper issued to get money from investors. To save, expand, etc. a corporation. So do you think it is better for the taxpayer to invest in a corporation for nothing? I dont. I want my money back when all this is said and done. I dont want corporate welfare. Which is just another kind of socialism. Socialism for the extremely rich.

If you read my post, you will see that I do not give Democrats a pass. I blame politicians of both parties. Going back for decades. You just cant blame Obama for this mess. He just got elected.

I dont think he is going to be our savior. But he also isnt the devil that caused this mess. Stop voting Democrat and Republican if you guys want stuff to really change. Vote third party. The two parties we have now are just not different enough from one another to matter to us.

first part ok but i do blame obama for whats happening now right now

in 90 years the dow has never been fallen so down so low so fast. obama has the honor of being the first prisdent in 90 years for that distinction

when he attacks the rich
when he says dont pay attention to the daily gyrations of the stock market
when says hes gonna tax people who make over such an such amount of money and cigarette cartons go up $7 more (thats in april)
when hes all about doom and gloom

yes whats happening now is on obama.

I am sure you do blame him. But whether your blame is justified is the question.

The Dow was already on this trajectory before he took office. The reason it is falling now is not only due to his polices, but earnings reports from the quarter just past. Which were influenced by consumer spending in that quarter and the previous one. Which was influenced by job losses and credit problems in the year or so preceding it. Economics is not as cut and dried as you want it to be. An economy cant turn on a dime. What comes before influences the present. And presidents arent magic. There is no magic wand he or anyone could wave that would make this all go away.

It took us years (decades) to get into this mess, it will take years to get out of it.

by your own logic you just cleared bush for the economy -but wait hes still guilty.

and it is justified.

I'm an American, Born in Cincinnati Ohio, freedom-fighter and gun-owner, and I'm with Chavez: we should go Socialist! (Democratic Socialism provides greater freedom then what we have now, a corporate-controlled, almost fascist government).

...and it seems Obama is moving us towards Democratic Socialism, so gobama!

Unless this is outright sarcasm I say BEE ESS! If you want socialism so bad, be prepared to hand over that gun you cherish so much and forget about calling anything you have "yours" because it will belong "to the people". Oh and a true freedom fighter doesn't fight to become part of the establishment, he/she fights to buck the establishment in favor of all freedoms, which socialism clearly is not.

I'm not sure anyone listens to this whack-job anymore after that recent sham election that eliminated term limits. Is that what he will encourage Obama to do next? Rescind term limits so he can be elected life-long president?

I'll bet Chavez would LOVE for there not to be a 2012 election in the U.S.

Just one more reason to abscond from socialism - when a neckless whack-job like Chavez sings its praises, you have to know it's bad!!

Reality: Obama is racing toward Socialism like this country has never seen. I am not on board with it!
