Thank you. And for the record, "Bigfoot" / Yeti / Upright Primate Cryptids ARE Cryptids. They are recognized by the cryptozoological community.
Vampire/Werewolves/Human anomolies are not. Cryptozoology focuses on the discovery and study of unnamed, new, or unclassified species or those which
have been previously thought to be extinct. Not the study of any human modifications of any sort. Vampires and zombies are not typically considered to
be separate species from humans and would not be. Although this forum does include mythical beings, therefore the treatment of any topics that would
not be considered cryptozoological should be considered mythical.
I know that I will be participating more in this forum, as it is my area of study, now that the "no duplicate" rule is in place. Thank you.
(And if you think vampires are scary/cool, look at some of the already established species out there that are just as scary/cool and more
scientifically proven, like vespa mandarinia japonica)

I am thankful to those who run ATS for enforcing this policy where vampires are concerned; as previously mentioned in conversation, it has always been
a policy of ATS to remove or redirect duplicate threads. For a time, I had wondered why this hadn't seemed to apply to vampire threads, and finally
came to the conclusion that nobody really cared. Lord knows I didn't; it was simply annoying. However, its good to see that even in
less-acknowledged areas of the forum, attention is being given to the posts.
At least one poster on this particular thread has voiced quite vehemently that this is a wrongful decision, and somehow infringing on his rights to
speak; I think we come to ATS to be heard, and to listen, but seriously doubt anybody shares this person's issue. None of us with anything to say
like to repeat ourselves time and again, and I, at least, detest hearing the same words from different mouths. Independent thought is to be valued
and expressed, not assimilated and duplicated. It just doesn't work that way.
Lastly, I said in a previous thread that I, in no way, wish for vampire threads to be banned; my personal desire is, and has always been, for people
to use evidence and fact rather than opinion and imagination. When discussing the theory of the vampire, those are valid testimony; when discussing
the fact of the vampire, they fall quite short. My point becomes that we have never needed twenty different threads to cover what little there is to
say about this mythological, albeit popular, creature.
Keep up the good work, guys.

What happens when somebody has a different take on vampires or something related to them that has not been covered?
Are yo assuming that everything ever has already ben talked about when talking about vampires?
That's kinda weak.
Right now we only know so much about space. Lets just stop posting new threads about it though because everything has already been covered.
Doesn't that sound dumb too. kind of the same thing you guys are saying.
If it's new info or a new take or new perspective or somethin new about it it should be allowed to start it's own thread and not have to bee
attached too something possibly un-related.

I think that the word "duplicate" is key in understanding the new rule.
If the same thread/discussion is already around, don't make a new one.
If you have a totally new one, then you can post it.
But try to add on to the ones already around.

I suggest you read the 1st post, then the rest of the thread, and if there is still any confusion, I would be glad to answer any questions you may
still have.

I am very glad that this policy is in place. I left ATS for a couple months due to the Vampire threads flooding my favorite part of the forums, I
already posted about this being a problem but beleive I worded it a bit wrong and it sounded rather stupid haha.
Thanks to all the ATS members for getting this problem solved.

This is nothing more than a bump to remind ATSers that there are vampire threads, and in said threads posts are expected to me made. Given the recent
rise in vampiric posts, I felt the need to bring attention to this. Forgive me if I spoke out of line.

If only this policy could be used on other duplicate threads... like, ohh...
Obama Birth Certificates
Astral Projection / Lucid Dreaming
any thread entitled "Has this ever happened to you???"
and on and on...
Used to be a time where duplicate threads were closed, with links directing you to previous threads. Then, from what I have seen, a duplicate thread
is allowed if the information is 6 months old.
I am not complaining, I'm all for this, but there has to be a consensus with ALL the moderators and staff, and it has to be followed through all the
time and enforced all the time.

www.abovetopsecret.com...
Here's the policy. It is five years old, but that's it in writing. It's supposed to be a general outline, I think. Because some topics have a
thousand threads, and some only have two. So of course they would discourage repeats on the threads with the most topics.
When you have a new thought on an old topic, pick up an old thread(s) and...
1) Long recent thread: If the existing thread is too long (more than 15 pages) reference the thread or threads in your first post by linking to them,
then pick up with your new twist on the existing discussion.
2) Old existing thread: If the existing thread is more than 3 months old, reference the thread or threads in your first post by linking to them, then
as above, indicate your new twist on the older discussion topic.
3) Current events: If you know your topic is related to current news, please take some time to see if it's being covered in our current discussions.
Simply find the thread and add your new thoughts to the existing discussion.
Locking or Removing Threads: If you create a new thread on existing topics, especially current events, it may get moved to the "trash bin", or
locked by a moderator indicating there is an existing discussion. If this happens, please don't take it personal... it is difficult to keep up with
the pace of discussion on ATS at times, and this action by no means reflects on our opinion of you as a member of ATS.
When new users find ATS, it is most often through a Google search. We tend to get 12,000+ people a day coming to this domain from search engine
searches (and have had peaks of 60,000 in one day!). Very often, they find older threads. From a user experience perspective, it makes more sense to
contain thread continuity through the evolution of thought from original idea, to the newly discovered ideas.
Also, when any thread gets beyond 15 pages, it's time to consider if there needs to be a new thread spawned. Most threads at that length usually
contain two or more sub-topics with various involved members focusing on singular sub-topics within a long multi-topic thread.
The Cryptozoology forum is one of the smaller forums on ATS. Therefore, it's easier to control things like duplicate threads (there are only 58 pages
of threads in here!)
We were having a slight problem with the vast amount of vampire threads compared to the amount of cryptozoological threads or threads on other
mythical beasts.
It also wasn't all vampire threads. "All new vampire Q&A threads will be deleted. Vampire sightings or personal experiences are naturally still
welcome."
