Thank you.
It was getting annoying.

Thats cool.

But most of us have no beef with the people wanting to discuss Vampires as an alternative topic; the mythology, the history etc.

But most of the topics lately have been from immature posters all talking about hollywood vampires and 'OMG LIEK HOW COOL' it would be to be one... hell, some even think they are one.

Couldn't threads like that, which only make the Crypto forum look like some cheap spin-off of a high school messageboard, be moved to Gray area or Skunkworks?

All such threads (i.e. immature or nonsensical) will be deleted and won't even be considered for BTS. That's the general rule, but obviously staff will consider each such thread on a case to case basis.

I don't care anything about vampires, but I don't agree with just jumping in there and stating no more duplicate threads on vampires, that is a stupid thing to do, I don't care if you are a moderator or not. Why don't you put it up to a VOTE, to see how many people are actually with you on your closed minded approach to people that are interested in vampires.

Obviously vampire threads are very small in size, and obviously someone is interested in them in order to start a thread. Obviously not everyone sees the old threads and obviously if someone starts a new thread, they may be taking a slightly different approach to the subject, or someone may come along that hasn't posted on such a thread before with interesting information.

Why don't you stop all of the 2012 threads, they pop up all the time, and there isn't anyone on this site that knows anything about 2012 other than it's a date the Mayans have on their calendar.

Its supposed to be a conspiracy site, yet the site "relies" on people being paranoid about topics like 2012. Fear mongering and paranoid people abound at this site; more than conspiracy. More that half of the stuff isn't about conspiracy on this site, its just a daily news gathering site.

Most of your biggest threads running on this site right now have absolutely nothing to do with conspiracies.

I say put it up for a vote; but of course that would be "conspiring" (a conspiracy, oh my goodness) against the moderator; so like all tyrants, tyrants will get their way.

Yes, you do have people that agree with the Moderator on this thread, but so what. I think there are more people out there that will make their presence known if it comes to a vote, and I'm pretty sure they would not want vampire threads ruled out because someone wants to stop those threads.

I think you're reading a bit much in this than there actually is.

1. The announcement comes from me as FSME, not as moderator. If I wasn't a moderator I would still have made the announcement as FSME.
2. The amount of vampire threads was simply getting out of hand, to the point that our fellow members started to complain about it. The staff discussed this and everyone whole-heartedly agreed that there are simply too many threads covering exactly the same approach to the topic/asking the same question.
3. As I mentioned earlier in the thread - obvious duplicate threads will be deleted, but most new vampire threads will be dealt with on a case by case basis.
4. Members were in fact given the opportunity to raise their opinions about the "vampire treads issue" in this thread. Why didn't you say something during the 3 months the thread was left open for discussion?
5. There appears to be some deeper underlying issue here. Subtle hints like your name-calling. If you have an issue with how the board is run, please raise your issues in the ATS Issues thread or if the problem is more personal then you are welcome to use the complaint feature in your MemCenter.

Again - you focus on me and not the actual topic.
Name calling... You mean by your comment "...against the moderator; so like all tyrants, tyrants will get their way" you didn't insinuate me/all moderators to be a tyrant/s?

I don't understand why you are so angry?

Here is what I wrote before: "I have the rights to express my opinions about my thoughts as to your policy or thoughts on Banning postings on Vampires, ect...."

and...

you write....

How did you come to this conclusion?

If I don't have those rights, then I want ATS to WIPE EVERYTHING THAT I HAVE EVER WRITTEN OFF OF THEIR SITE, AND EVERYTHING THAT ANYBODY ELSE COPIED FROM ME TO BE WIPED OFF OF THEIR SITE.

As I said before - the announcement is as FSME, not as moderator, so yes I'm the instigator of the policy. You'll find many such "announcements" in most forums by the FSMEs. Even so, there is no need to start each and every "official thread" with "we as staff would like to announce that..."

Each and every official move by a staff member (be it FSME or Moderator) is discussed by the staff before it is initiated, so any official business is backed by the entire staff and in effect the management.

And you still misunderstand the statement. There isn't a ban on vampire threads. There is a ban on duplicate threads. And this isn't new to ATS. The staff closes and redirects tens if not hundreds of duplicate threads every day. ATS doesn't allow duplicate threads. This is not debatable or up for voting. BUT we do take each and every thread on its own and look at its merits. If there is a new angle on an old topic, we typically leave it.

The reason why an announcement was made was because the crypto forum's front page was covered with similar vampire threads, i.e. it was out of hands. And members started complaining about this. So to put an immediate stop to it we made an announcement, and in the same move, we showed members that we do listen to the complaints.
