Israel stands firm on demand for domestic JSF content

www.flightglobal.com

Israel is maintaining a firm stance on its demand that its future fleet of air force Lockheed Martin F-35 Joint Strike Fighters should be equipped with "as many as possible" Israeli-made systems.

The US government has so far turned down Tel Aviv's requests to put locally produced systems on the stealthy JSF, but the Israeli air force is insistent that its next-generation aircraft should have nationally sourced electronic warfare equipment

woo you might think `this isn`t breaking news

well IMO i think it is - in regards to defence - this is really a test of the new administration;

israel - we want our own equipment

US - nope

israel - we want our own equipment

us - nope

israel - no you don`t understand we want our own equipment

us - you won`t be buying this aircraft then

israel throws dummy from pram.

now - will obama get on his knees for israel and swallow? or does he have the balls to stand up and say NO.

JSF is for the nation. Do not all States have a say in the defence budget?

you forget the following

Israeli Lobby group runs out to DC
and says we own your asses and your our bitches

US goverment goes fair does

here are the Toys at the cost of American Tax payers (not like Israel uses its own money since the US pays for their weapons)

Israeli lobby group smiles and goes back to Business

Israel gets the toys and starts retrofitting them

and then decide why not sell it to China or India and make a few Extra Dollors.

China Laughs and thinks what a great day as its saved them years in researching and development on a new air craft, christmas/Chineese new years come early.

Starts its own program, and then sells onto Iran, Syria and other countries

everyone wins

The USA has said that no country can fit its own equipment nor have access to the source codes to the computers - israel have called the USA on this and said no they want there own equipment.

Doubt it will be long before the new administration bends over for the Israeli's, after all apart from selling them the F22 (they may still do that yet?) have they ever refused anything the Israeli's have asked of them?

The reason why Israel wants its own electronic systems aboard is because it more than likely does not want foreign (US) systems to ever be disabled or replacement parts refused.

Remember the f-14's that were sold to Iran that basically sat silent because they were unable to service them and electronic systems that never worked. Ours (US) worked just fine.

No offense but Israel isn't a state. Really no offense but Israel doesn't even pay for this stuff, we do. No offense but why are we giving a foreign nation our most sophisticated advanced fighter, and when is the last time when you went to a New Car Dealership and told them, no, I don't want your electronics I want mine.

How about Israel just flies that piece of junk Minerva or what ever it's called they insisted on building for themselves and making the United States pay for?

Star and flag Harlequin, I will be watching to see where this one goes. Let's see if Mr. Change is going to put his money where his mouth is or send it to Telaviv like every other dolt we have had in the White House for too, too many years.

As for Israel, they need to go home. The Israelis wants to get an industrial/commercial backdoor into the most important fighter project around.

This without participating in the SDD or PFSD phases. They've effectively had no say in the definition and have had no entitlement to it. They have no entitlement through the procedural processes, nor does the F-35 lend itself to being modded by the Israelis on the technical level (integrated 5th gen core vs federated 4th gen). And of course also trying to shift US mil aid dollars from being spent in Israel instead of the US of A.

So the Israelis are getting a no on every level hence the whinging. They'd probably sell it all to China too!

Israel are not a partner nation and yet want the first run of these aircraft

this is all to give the impression that the US and Israel are not as close anymore so that the US can claim to be the victim when Iran hits back at the US fleet after Israel attacks.

for many years the US and Israel have been in bed together, they are trying to give the impression of getting a divorce even though they will share custody of everything and Israel will still be getting alimony.

smoke and mirrors is all it is.

If i were Israel i wouldn't waste money on the F35, many other aircraft like Griphon and Euro fighter perform much better in all areas except obviously VTOL.

Bullocks on every level.

In some areas they may perform better; however, neither are better strike fighters.

Gripen is on the level of an F-16; main advantage over the block 60 F-16 is maginal supercruise and maintainability.

Eurofighter is purely unnecessary.

F-35 is perfect at battlefield strike hence it being wanted; it also has decent air to air capability, far higher than any rival in the middle east, except UAE Eurofighters...

Your point?

EDIT: Yes the F-35 has only completed 2% of testing so obviously everything said is hypothetical; in a world where F-35 is flying and FOC.

Most of you are missing the real reason Israel wants there own systems. It has likely has NOTHING to do with long-term functionality or whatever. Its economic in nature, all of the JSF countries are begging for contracts in their country out of economic interests. However, these countries are barely putting in money the way the US is-- Israel is just a big deal because they are considered very close to the US and actually might get some contracts.

my point is that the F-35 as of now is a paper tiger , they`ve built 4 of them to test , whilst the `phoon and gripen have both allready been deployed in operations.

so you say `neither are better strike fighters` - , which is quite obviously rubbish - the F35 is a prototype only, whilst the other 2 have shown they can blow sh1t up.
