Was "Lady Macbeth" behind Barack Obama's Snub Of Gordon Brown?

www.thisislondon.co.uk

On US radio's Garrison show today, I was asked for my reaction as a true born Englishman to President Obama's double insult - first the sending back of the Winston Churchill bust, then his snub to Gordon Brown.

....

Iain Martin is quite right here: no matter how utterly rubbish we have become as a nation in the Blair/Brown years, Britain's friendship is something Obama will come to regret having dispensed with so lightly.

Here is a uniquely British take on the recent and unquestionably blatant snub which our President Obama imparted upon the people of the United Kingdom.

Aside from the returning of Winston Churchill's Bust to the People of England, President Obama also had the "audacity" [No Pun] to reciprocate a recent gift by sending Prime Minister Brown a "DVD Collection".

What gift could have earned such an enormously cheap thought process in return? How about a custom Ornamental Ink Pen Holder crafted from the Timbers of the HMS Gannet (Formerly the HMS President, an Anti-Slave Ship), the Sister Ship of the HMS Resolute, of which the desk in the Oval Office of the White House is constructed! Yes, you heard it correctly, PM Brown lavished President Obama with a truly Unique, Amazing Object of Immense Historical Value, and in turn, our President sends the Prime Minister a freaking DVD Collection!

[Also, PM Brown lavished President Obama with the Framed Commission of the HMS Resolute itself, AND a First-Edition Set of the Seven-Volume Winston Churchill Biography Authored by Sir Martin Gilbert.]

Could our President be any more Snobbish and King like in Nature? Are the Roles of King and Colony beginning to Reverse?

To the People of the U.K., on behalf of the United States, I do hope you realize what it is we are now facing in terms of Ego Oriented "Royalty". I also hope that you realize how endearing we still remain towards you, Our "Friends Across the Pond", and how such rubbish from our President does NOT represent the feelings of the Vast Majority of American Citizens.

You make some interesting points. However this part of your post seems a little off, in my opinion.

I'm not really understanding how you're interpreting Obama's behaviour as "King-like", unless of course your interpretation of what defines a King is based on a belief that Kings are somehow defined by rude or ignorant behaviour.

I think, and this is an observation rather than a criticism, that Americans have a peculiar view of Royalty which is partly informed by the America's own brand on Independence-related flag-waving and also through a relatively insular global outlook.

What's even better is that it's quite likely the President gave him region 1 DVD's... which the Prime Minister won't be able to watch on his DVD player, (even if he has one, since I believe that Brown is legally blind) so a British brother could get his movie on.

The movie list:

Citizen Kane
The Godfather
Casablanca
Raging Bull
Singin' in the Rain
Gone with the Wind
Lawrence of Arabia (ouch!)
Schindler's List
Vertigo
The Wizard of Oz
City Lights
The Searchers
Star Wars: Episode IV (too cheap to give him the entire saga!)
Psycho
2001: A Space Odyssey
Sunset Boulevard
The Graduate
The General
On the Waterfront
It's a Wonderful Life
Chinatown
Some Like it Hot
The Grapes of Wrath
ET
To Kill a Mockingbird

But it could be worse; could have given him a membership to Netflix.

In return, that well-known NORAID fund raiser, drunk driver and drowning woman abandoner Ted Kennedy received an Honourary Knighthood.

Seriously, Obama has gone out of his way to dis the British. He had the bust of Churchill sent back to the UK Ambassador. He didn't give Brown the courtesy of a formal press conference. Some of this is felt to be payback for the way the Brits treated Obama's Kenyan grandfather[torture was alleged]. Then Michelle seemed to be hung up over the British involvement in the slave trade. Meanwhile our socialists in chief would rather make nice with terrorist lovers in Syria and Iran.

The media is trying to keep this quiet, but you know damn well that if it were Bush, they'd be lighting him up with, "He's an idiot!" stories for weeks.
