General Faints At Briefing

Did anyone see this? He was speaking about the war in Iraq and just closed his eyes and began to slump, then walked away.

Have things gotten so bad in Iraq that the leaders are this stressed out?

It was durring the press briefing today.

In the last three weeks we've had over 90 troops killed.

Even Rumsfeld says he is shocked by this unexpected turn of events in Iraq.

Do you think things are worse than we are being told?

Is this a whole new war?

What the hell are we fighting for now?

I'm sure they're beyond stressed out. Many troops have been sent home because of psychosis, aside from battle wounds. A much higher than average number of troops have also committed suicide. I'm sure the extended deployments are going far to increase that number. It's a damn shame and I'd be furious. The government never holds up its end of the bargain. Our troops deserve much better than that.

As an aside, during the Gulf War, I saw men become physical shadows of their prior robust selves because of injury, trauma, stress. My Captain, who was a former Green Beret, never looked the same again. It was creepy. It was due to worrying about us and accomplishing a very trying mission. My unit flew the deepest Air Assault mission in combat history (to that point). And our guys flew more hours than any other unit in the 101st Aviation Brigade. Basically with duck tape and coat hangers by the time we were in Iraq for the ground invasion.

Believe this: IT'S FAR WORSE! That's why you will never see the dead landing at Dover being covered. That's why you rarely see the blinde and mamed languishing at Ft. Stewart and other bases. It's outrageous.

The Gulf War never ended. It is simply in its final and most deadly phase. And it won't work.

What the hell are we fighting for now?

So the NeoCon cabal can rule the mid-east from its central seat in Baghdad. And control all the remaining oil/gas reserves that they can get their hands on. It's the most wicked catch 22 I've ever seen.

come on you people, the poor guy probably missed breakfast or he is really sick. don't be so harsh.

On at least two occasions over there I tried what they said was a hamburger - at Haji's - had some kind of goat cheese on it. Made me sick as hell both times. I stuck with the rotisserie chicken and onion after that.

The situation in Iraqi is now a new war. Shiites and Sunnis are in the process of uniting. Saddam is old old news, they want USA OUT OF IRAQI ASAP!

I think America should get out, get the UN or NATO in, or just leave Iraqis to sort themselves out, but I guess this is unrealistic seeing the history of Iraqi, that it has always been a powder keg due to the different ethnic groups (two radically different Islamic groups and the Kurds), only a monachary (or an attempt at one) or a nationalist leader like Saddam has been able to keep the region together as one. And of course how the # can America leave Iraqi with all the corporate oil interests? Dicks company snapped up all the oil contracts didnt they?

Bottom line? Iraqi seems to be the death call for the current administration, unless the situation there gets cleaned up and fast, or unless there is another major terrorist attack on US soil.

Finally, I have a question to ask the Americans out there. Why is it that a country can back the governments moves to war wholeheartedly(more than 50% of the USA were behind Iraqi war, granted the WMD claim was bull#, but either way when they accepted the idea of sending soilders in due to WMD that means the possibilty of casuality?), but then call for a pull out as soon as their soilders start to die? Isnt that what every soilder realizes and accepts as part of joining an army? That you may very well DIE for the cause?? Reminds me of Bob Dylans song "Masters of War" I think Ill go listen to Bob for a bit....

As far as soldiers knowing the cost.. Sure, they know in the abstract what soldiering might entail; but, you never think you'll go to war until you're activated. I can speak from experience on that count. And I went willingly, btw. I supported my leadership wholeheartedly, like a good soldier, based on what I thought I knew at the time.

As far as psychosis goes, it can come from many places. It could come from watching that little girl soldier next to you get her arms blown off; it can come from your buddies all being slain in front of you; it can come from being sleep deprived for an extended amount of time; it comes from your spouse writing you that dreaded dear john letter; it can come from losing a child during your deployment; it can come from harassment from peers or leaders; MANY, MANY, MANY ways to die internally during war. And there's not a GD thing you can do about it. Except soldier on. Try and internalize that.

Currently America has shown its love for Islamic countries by invading them. The problem for America is the fact that OPEC is mostly Islamic...and they have incredible power. They can single handedly knock off 30% of the value of the dollar, as they control 80% of the worlds oil.

Americans just consume TOO much. The entire American system is also underpinned by the consumer, but they are consuming more than they contribute.

Just a thought here for you. Could the entire world consume as America does at the moment and could the earth survive? Could Calcutta and Kabul consume as much as America cities do? Or Mexico City or Africa ? If every 3rd world country had clean running water for its citizens,electricity, SUVs,communication systems to match USA, food consumption, entertainment, drugs etc. Do the calculations and find out for yourself.

You have to distinguish energy consumption from oil consumption.
There is plenty of energy, for stationary plants. There isn't alot of oil.

If you look at it more dispassionately, those figures also meant that the USA has more economic output per person (often proportional to energy) than others. Compared to Europe and Japan though it is less efficient because of the larger distances in the USA. Notice that the USA is more like Russia in that respect.

Kabul and Kolkuta (Calcutta) have problems because they are massively overpopulated for their resources. And that is NOT the USA's fault, but idiotic cultural insanties.

And yes, I do think that everybody driving SUV's to the supermarket really *is* idiotic and wasteful.

What I posted was and is the truth.
Regardless of how many Americans support the current Government, they are still ruled by them. Unless the people cause a civil war of some sort the system is not going to change.

The most overlooked and major threat America causes the world is its very existance. Its not just about Oil, but how much Americans consume in total. It cannot be sustained indefinitly. And future super consuming powers will have the same problem.

America is already beginning its decline in the world. As crazy as that seems its the truth in my opinon. USA has been the richest country in the entire history of mankind. It has amassed wealth beyond all the kingdoms of the world combined. But alas it will be no more
