While America's economy continues to spiral into oblivion, Obama and Michelle are partying it up in the White House every week:

Since the presidency changed hands less than six weeks ago, a burst of entertaining has taken hold of the iconic, white-columned home of America's head of state. Much of it comes on Wednesdays. The stately East Room, where portraits of George and Martha Washington adorn the walls, was transformed into a concert hall as President Barack Obama presented Stevie Wonder with the nation's highest award for pop music on Wednesday. A week before that, the foot-stomping sounds of Sweet Honey in the Rock, a female a cappella group, filled the East Room for a Black History Month program first lady Michelle Obama held for nearly 200 sixth- and seventh-graders from around the city. Cocktails were sipped during at least three such receptions to date, all held on Wednesdays. Bookending the midweek activity were a Super Bowl party for select Democratic and Republican lawmakers and a dinner for governors, the new administration's first black-tie affair. It was capped with a performance by the 1970s pop group Earth, Wind and Fire. And a conga line. The flurry of entertaining is in keeping with the Obamas' promise to make the White House a more open place for everyone. The governors' dinner was "a great kickoff of what we hope will be an atmosphere here in the White House that is welcoming and that reminds everybody that this is the people's house," Obama told the state chief executives after they had dined on Maryland crab, Wagyu beef, Nantucket scallops and citrus salad. "We are just temporary occupants. This is a place that belongs to the American people and we want to make sure that everybody understands it's open," he said. At the dinner in the State Dining Room, the Obamas looked comfortable, chatting and smiling with their guests. Afterward, they escorted the governors down the hall to the East Room, which had been arranged with few tables and chairs to encourage dancing to "September," "Boogie Wonderland" and other hits from a musical group Obama listened to growing up. The conga line formed after the media were escorted out and, apparently, after Obama had called it a night. "Thank you also for waiting until I had left before you started the conga line," the president told the governors the next morning. "I hear it was quite a spectacle." Some Obama guests say he immediately puts them at ease. He indulges them and serves cookies, too

Now compare the parties for Stevie Wonder, Sweet Honey in the Rock, conga lines, and Earth, Wind and Fire, with Obama's statement that " the working class must be responsible and that we must sacrifice."

Do you think this is sacrifice on Obama's part?
After you, YOU and I are paying for these lavish parties. Imagine if FDR had done this during the Depression.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, AIG got their 4th bailout today. I guess they had to send their executives to another California Spa for more massages and facials.

Another day on the road to complete destruction of the American Way.

Wow this is a stretch. Since the very first president, the families have been expected to entertain. Abigail Adams constantly lamented on how they were supposed to entertain on a meager salary they were given.

Darn those sixth and seventh graders, the world is going to hell in a hand basket now.

Hmm, if the president has always been expected to do this and has always done this, then why do they find the need to use it to toot their own horns?

I found several key things in the article...

We are just temporary occupants.

Now that right there is hope I can believe in! I have been given the audacity of hope that this farce will not be permanent. Thank you, Obama.

This is a place that belongs to the American people and we want to make sure that everybody understands it's open.

Great! I'll be sure to drop by for dinner next time I'm in that neighborhood. Can I bring a side dish, some maccaroni salad or fruit & Jell-O, perhaps?

He indulges them and serves cookies, too.

Fantastic! I can see it all now. "Here Mr. Ken Lewis, have a snickerdoodle before you go skipping away with that $20 Bil in taxpayer dollars. Can I interest you in some milk, or are you still nursing the glass of American sweat & tears Michelle poured for you earlier?"

I cannot put into words the way I view this man without violating this site's T&C in a truly epic and monumentous manner.

I doubt that the sixth graders were at THOSE receptions.

So, you believe WE are supposed to sacrifice, while Obama and Michelle party it up, at our expense. In other words, business as usual(or play as usual) for them is ok, but we have to scrape to make ends meet?

No wonder this country is going to he** in a hand-basket.

Seems to me if banks, mortgage companies, or the American-brand auto manufacturers were throwing lavish parties on our dime, there would be no end to the ridicule and scorn, yet if the Admin does it, it is just business as usual.

I guess if he is going to criticize the CEO's for having lavish parties, he should hold himself to the same standards. Better yet, he should set the example.

Compared to all of the other wild spending of taxpayer's money, I must admit that this one is a drop in the bucket. Taxpayer's money nonetheless.

"I think the value of social interaction like this is not so much that it co-opts anyone in any way. It certainly didn't in my case," said Franks, who described his conversation with Obama at the party as substantive. "I think it humanizes and personalizes opponents. We can diminish politics and try to work together for what's right for the country."

From the OP Source...

I gotta say, if all it takes to help our Government work together is some cookies and booze, then I will GLADLY pay for it.

Just because you might not accomplish anything substantive at your parties, it doesn't meant that Obama isn't working. It is not like all of these events are his pals from college. These are Governors, senators, congress etc.

I didn't know that Stevie Wonder, Earth, Wind and Fire, and the a capella group were senators or congressmen.
Then again, the way they have been giving out money to crooks, banks, and wall street(ah, but I repeat myself), I wouldn't be surprised if they were.

My apologies...you are right...Stevie Wonder is not a Senator. Obama set the US on fire and now we will watch him party while it burns. We will not examine the 30+ years of financial idiocy, corruption on BOTH sides and plain foolishness that got us here.

I guess I would rather be at least TRYING to get something done instead of sitting around pointing fingers while the US burns...but that's just me...

Can you just imagine the crap storm that would ensue if a Republican was doing this (not implying that they don't). The abuses of power and the depth of lies and corruption of this criminal regime are the worst the coutry has ever seen and we still have 46 months until we are rid of them. God help us!

This really illustrates they hipocrisy of the leftist media.
