"Psychedelica". The New Fish on the Block. (new species)

Yup! Another new species has been discovered.

"Psychedelica"

Check out Histiophryne psychedelica, a new species named for its crazy tan and peach stripes and lackadaisical style of getting around the sea floor, which resembles hopping more than swimming. The fish is described in this month's issue of the journal Copeia.

Divers first spotted the fish in January 2008 in the harbor of Ambon Island, Indonesia.

The fist-sized fishies are covered with thick folds of skin that scientists think protect them while they're hunting for food amid sharp coral. Their tails are curled to one side, which may affect their ability to steer — hence, their bouncing mode of transportation.

There is more info to this story, but one thing the article does not cover, is the strange fact that since researchers have returned to study the fish, there are no sign of them.

They are ALL gone.

This is very interesting if you happen to believe in evolution. This fish definately shows how amphibians evolved. I would be interested to know if any studies have come out with detailed research on this things "paws"...
