Schoolgirl, 15, makes small fortune as prostitute

www.news.com.au

Her unusual weekend job was exposed when a teacher at her school in South Shields, near Newcastle, found condoms, lubricant and details of the agency she worked for in her school bag.

Police officers who searched her home found more than £8000 stashed in the attic in November last year. The girl, who cannot be named because she is a minor, is thought to have netted around £1700 pounds every weekend.

Details of the case emerged during a hearing at South Tyneside Magistrates Court on February 13 to decide what should happen to the cash.

Wow, at 15... I wonder what this poor girl has been through. I thought it was pretty normal for a girl in Australia to be sexually active at that age, but at the same time I doubt any of her 'clients' were under 16. That would make it legal right? Or is the legal age 18 there?

I mean, not the prostituting thing, but... Anyway.

I wonder what will happen with the cash she earned since that seems to be the part that caught the most attention. (£14,000 ($A30,641))
"The court decided the cash should be forfeited to the authorities. " ??????? Poor girl.

In New South Wales the legal age of consent is 16.

I mean the first thought is, oh no the poor girl blah blah blah.
But try and think of it from another perspective.
When I was 14, I was having sex and if some girls wanted to pay me for it.

I would have been more than happy to oblige them.
Why is it different because shes a girl?
I mean its no good if dirty old men are having sex with a 15yo.
But if she wasn't forced to do it, then perhaps it was just her choice?
Maybe she is ok with it?
I would hate if my daughter did this, but if she wanted to do it then how could I stop her?
Another thought here is, all these men having sex with her, thinking shes 18.
They are committing crimes and don't even know they are.

Police said a man aged 44 and a woman aged 46 were arrested on suspicion of inciting child prostitution, but later released facing no further action. The schoolgirl herself is not thought to be facing any charges.

As you see, she wasn't exploited.
She used fake ID, and they even made her sign a form to state she was 18 and had shown ID.
How much more can they look into it?
Prostitution is bad, but who actually committed a crime here?

Honestly, I am not too concerned with what you were doing at 14, and for all we know it might even be illegal for me to hear about it.

But anyway, most 15 year olds I have known were not prostitutes and would not make the choice to be. Which might make some people wonder if this girl was abused or something. You never know what someone else has been through.... so can't really judge the decisions they make. If that makes sense.

It is a pretty dehumanizing job in many places in the world.

Leto, thanks for the quick answer, good to have some idea.

We probably won't get to know all the pertinent facts, and I certainly do not want to 'judge' this young girl, we may never know the reasons for her actions. I think that the money she earned is hers, and should perhaps, only have been put into a trust fund untill she is eighteen, otherwise this is theft plain and simple on the part of the Court.

Regards,

Horsegiver.

Not if the money was made illegally. You don't see drug dealers gettin busted then having all their money returned to them do you?

Poor girl? She made 1700 Pounds a weekend.

It doesn't seem that anybody forced her to do it.

Anyway, what is a teacher doing going through her bag?

Well, I don't know Australia's laws regarding prostitution, but to take the money she earned just seems like theft to me.

A 15-YEAR-old schoolgirl in northeast England earned about £14,000 ($A30,641) over two months by working as a prostitute.

Guys, this girl is in the UK, not Australia.

The news article is in Australia.
Its talking of Newcastle in ENGLAND.
And also I think it strange for a teacher to be going through a pupils bag.
And secondly, what was the grounds for searching her home?
Just because they found condoms and lubricant in her bag?

I think this girl might be able to sue the school, and the police.
They have also taken her cash, yet, no crime has been committed and no one charged.
So how was the money the result of a crime?

Well, before we condemn the clients, we should find out if they knew she was 15. Many girls that age do not look 15! There's a girl that waits tables at a local diner near my home. She is 15, my wife and all of our friends thought she was in her mid 20s.

We only found out she was 15 when my 22 year old brother asked her out!
Of course, when she told her age he quickly retracted the invite!

Yes, there's been some lazy reading in this thread or perhaps some ignorance regarding geography.

As for the actual story, I really hope she does time for this. I see no evidence in any part of this story that this girl is a 'victim' and yet she has knowingly facilitated the crime of sex having sex with a minor.

Wow, that's crazy. This girl obviously has some issues, and you want to put her in jail?

That's a bit disproportional, not?

How odd. I originally had England posted here, then looked at the URL and edited my posts thinking it was an Australian thing, since the .au

Embarrassing mistake.

Why is it "obvious" that's she got issues? Where's the evidence for this?

It's quite common, if not normal, for people to be having sex before the age of consent - which is 16 in this case. That she's having sex in itself doesn't mean she's got issues.

Here, she's having sex, but making money from it. She's doing so in with a broader cultural backdrop where younger people are becoming either sexualised and/or becoming almost desensitised to sex. We live in a culture where pole dancers and soft porn models are a thing to aspire to - to the extent that appearances on reality TV are seen as the first rung into the 'glamour' industry. Compare the cultural take on strippers in the 1970s and 1980s compared to the late 1990s and 2000s.

We live in a culture where school girls wear clothes with the Playboy logo on them and even buy Playboy-themed stationery. A culture where thongs for children (and similar) can be bought. You only have to spend a small amount of time on social networking sites to see how, of their own volition, many young women are happy to portray themselves with flirting with nudity &c.

We also live in a very materialistic culture: money and status is everything to many people. I'm 41-years-old, which isn't particularly old, and materialism has changed over the last 20 years or so. 15-year-olds now have a different take on consumerism and materialism than when I was 15.

The changes to attitudes towards money and sex will have widespread consequences and I think this girl is an example of it. I don't think she's a victim, more that she's merely indicative of what's going on generally.

Correct. The fact that she's charging money for it does.

And therefore, she should be in jail?

So the products of this cultural phenomenon should be punished with jailtime?

Who has setup this culture?

The 15 year old girl?

Yep, she's to blame, jail her!

Where were the parents at?
