I often wonder why I even bother with ATS or anything else or in fact why does anyone else. Is it not true that we are trully the dumbest animal on this planet. I mean what animal uses its own home as a toilet, what animal fights over the most insignificant item, what animal sets out each day to screw his fellow animal, well none only the man beast does that.

Like a population of Jekyl and Hyde characters we where the face of ignorant civility while beneath our knukles are catching the ground. We can laugh one minute and kill the next. Surely there is something wrong with us, a genetic mutation, a plan gone wrong.

Perhaps the best solution is to start over, that hopfully some natural, event will remove the festering infestation that is man off this Planet and in its place a more inteligent being can arise from the dung heap of mankind.

I agree- there is something wrong with us. Not only are we the most intelligent species on the planet but we use our intelligence for evil.

What truly intelligent race would do that? Really now? There is something the matter with our brains.

I agree

We don't use our instincts.
We are not aware of our surroundings
We think we are intellegent because we use logic, We are not logic ffs.
We were given all the tools, maths, kmowledge "from them"
We are almost stupid and asleep.
We are the only species to change our environment to suit us
We have the largest brain mass of any animal, yet we only use 2%

And anyone intellegent like myself can see that, anyone intellgent and is crazy wants to take advantage of that. We are the only species that take joy of destructing and killing our own kind

Yeah so If I were god, I seriously would pull the plug, I'd have enough of it.

Couldn't agree more.
These six point whatever billion idiots on the planet have no idea about anything, anything.

We've inherited our intelligence thanks to evolution, and with it, the power to do a great many things. And what do we do? We act only with self intent, thinking only of ourselves and what affects us, as if we're important.
We aren't special in the least. The thing that is rare, the thing that is one in a hundred trillion, is a rock, orbiting a star, growing living things on it.

A planet's natural state seems to be dead. Most planets are dead, cold worlds. This one that we're on is different than any planet known. It sits at the right angle, orbits on the right incline, sits at the right distance from it's star, contains the right elements in the right concentrations and at the right tempuratures and a million other different parameters required for it to build an atmosphere like this and have biological organisms begin to develop.

The last thing that this extremely rare and unique planet needs is an organism inhabiting it that does nothing but eat away at it, poison it and grows concrete and steel all over the place. Like a cancer taking over a human organ, we destroy as much as we possibly can, all the time, day after day, year after year, we get worse and worse, all the time, and it WON'T stop. We grow at a rate (taking into account people dying at over 100 per minute) of approximately 6 million people, every month.
That's the population of the United Kingdom every year.
All those people want more food, more cars, more water, more petrol, more concrete, more steel. And then the next month, another 6 million, then another and another and another.

This planet truely needs saving. For real. It's very rare and it must be preserved. Humans have the power to do that. But seeing how they can't see that power within themselves that makes them the number one threat.

Line up, all of us, six point whatever billion, do mother nature the biggest favour we ever could and swallow the cool aid.

mean what animal uses its own home as a toilet

We couldn't of got to where we are today without a little dirty work , soon we can clean and recycle all the bad stuff once we have the technology.
A man needs to use the toilet , geeze. Thats what bathrooms are for.

what animal fights over the most insignificant item

Like what? land ? please explain

what animal sets out each day to screw his fellow animal

Most people live normal happy lives , have friends and co-workers, enjoy live and get on with it. Whos screwing who over? You want something , you buy it , its simple.

Can you explain a little more where you are going with this ? Are you talking about War and Pollution ?

If you're talking about War, this is how it happens:
1 Colony of men were a proud empire and noticed there was another Empire a country away from them. Colony 1 , asked if they would join and become a major colony but Colony 2 declines and war begins. Thats how wars always happen and there will always be wars , civilizations do not exist ithout wars at one stage or another , primitive beings are like that.

We're at a stage (2009!!) where we can stop all this nonsense and clean up the world , lets not blame anyone and do this!

We are the meme machines .

Memes replicating from brain to brain like a virus, copying with variation and selection , regardless of the consequences.

It`s a relatively novel perspective on our species "advancement" and inherent dangers of our big brains, below is a short (20min) TED TALK by Susan Blackmore on the subject.

Hope those cloud lifts from your mind magicmushroom

Is this how you behave then? because I certainly don't and neither do millions of other human beings on this planet.

I admit I often despair at the evil people can do to each other but if we just give up that really would be dumb! We as a race have a long way to go and there are enough decent people to get there.

HUMANS,
We are alive, We are conscious, We establish relationships, and with those relationships we form societies. In societies, certain rules must be made to allow for equal distribution of resources. If we were mere animals, the rules would follow a natural path. However in developing "Intelligence" we create a better situation for ourselves. Conditions and environments become immaterial, once a plan of action and forethought are utilized. However, through variations, some seek to obtain more resources than others. Using the intelligence to ever create more elaborate ways to gain the upper hand. Rules are established that benefit those who are just a bit smarter than the rest. Over time the gap ever widens until the gap no longer exists and there are 2 distinct types of intelligences. Those that truly know the boundaries, limitations, availability and utilization of resources, and those who do not. It become apparent to maintain the upper hand, the information obtained must be restricted. Information as it turns out can be the most valuable resource of all. So limitation of resources keep those in power where they are, and the rest of us down in the trenches. Unbeknownst to the lower eschellon, the real power resides within us. For if we were to discontinue that which allows those in the higher ranks to maintain their superiority, it all come crashing down and the social structure becomes defunct.
It is not man that in dumb. It it the entity caused by our collective intelligences acting as a whole but in separate parts that seems to conspire to thwart our very nature. By nature we try our best to survive. Life is all about survival, and passing that genetic and technological distinctiveness onto the future generations so they can have a better chance. However, since man has indeed become so clever, the antisocial elements survive along with the beneficial ones. This created the dichotomy of the social structure in which we all now reside. Sure there are better or worse variations. The worse end of the spectrum occurs when resources are restricted to the point of unavailability. The purpose of this is actually beneficial to certain other aspects of the society.
Albeit very difficult to tolerate.

Man is not the problem in my opinion. Its the societies that take on an entity of their very own that encourage discord and non cooperation.

What sets us apart is the ability to choose whether or not we instinctively do the above.

I am not exactly the most understanding and forgiving of people (and I understand this) but I would rather let someone else take an insignificant item on me rather than fight/hurt them for it..

I recycle..

I also treat others deservedly..

Maybe you and those around you don't..

Not everyone is the same BTW..

Generalizing is another detrimental feature of humankind that causes more problems than it solves...

Maybe you should look at that as one of human kinds main issues... not what you have stated

Man's not the dumbest animal on the planet, it's just that our net morality is evil.

The dumbest animal on the planet is the Giant Panda. It's a carnivore, has canines, a gut made for meat digestion etc. But it eats leaves. (Edit: No it doesn't. It eats Bambo. I must be stupid) Because they give so little nutrients and energy that it has to continually eat all day and cannot hibernate or they starve. Then there is the issue of mating. They don't mate in captivity so have to be coerced to mate, often unsuccessfully. Zoologists have had to intervene with panda porn and Viagra and when that fails, strait artificial insemination.

Dumbest animal ever.

There are a great percentage of humanoids out there who are different from those with empathy, and they are called 'psychopaths' and there is a 'psychopath' thread which goes more into this, with educational videos, too. I have --always-- wished that an. 'E.L.E.' asteroid would come in and take out only all those troublemakers. The soulless gouls. Those that skin and cook animals alive, those that factory process and abuse those animals, and ones who'r mean to their fellow man, for meanness' sake, advertising agencies, (definitely) the fashion industry, spammers (definitely) Hollywood, (even tho they once came out with at least a couple of decent movies) Madison avenue, and ectcetera. The reality is, that if an E.L.E. were to bring apocalypse, the super wealthy, like powerful politicians, international bankers, basically the Illuminatti, more or less, have subterranean escape resources. (Remember Dick Cheney and his [literally] underground 'shadow government'). Everyone else, well,....lot'sa luck

I would have to disagree - my dog is the dumbest animal on the planet.

His name is hump dog, he has 3 legs, he lost one of his limbs trying to hump a tree trimmer ( lucky he didnt lose his wiener doin that ) SERIOUSLY!

To this day he still tries to hump anything and I mean ANYTHING - even AFTER losing a leg - last week I had to pull him off the cement statue of Abe Vigoda we have in the front yard - everytime he would thrust forward he would yelp in pain - but he kept doing it....how dumb is that?

A few examples for those who are living in cloud cuckoo land.

Have your hear the reports of neighbours coming to blows over a graden fence.

Have you heard of people trying to kill each other over a parking space.

Have you heard of communities that live together for centuries and decades that then turn on each other and commit genocide, the former Yugoslavia just being one example.

What about all the eflluent that is dumped into the sea, all the chemicals and heavy metals.

All the land fill sites, over fishing etc, no some of you have never heard of these things.

We use our Planet as a food supply and a toilet.

People are hypocrites especially the ones who say they love their fellow man. Civilisation is a very thin veneer indeed. Strip it away and we act like the animals we are. We prove this every day with our actions. None are innocent not even the tree huggers and the so called environmentalists.

Mankind in its present form is a sickness on the Planet, the majority don't guive a toss about anything as long as they get what they want and can do what they like. We are all selfish but kid ourselves that we do decent things yet for every good dead there are ten bad ones. Not one adult human is without sin and I don't mean in a religeous way.

We are bread from birth to hate, to feel superior, to ram our views and beliefs down the throats of others. We prove all this by our propensity to fight and kill, torture and main all are guilty either directly or indirectly.

We are nothing more than a sniveling conniving life form that sows the seeds of its own destruction with wanton glee. We are that easily controlled and manipulated that we allow ourselves to be duped and fooled like silly children. We are hurtling along to our own destruction and we don't even care, we don't give it a seconds thought.

We are in a blame culture where it is always someone elses fault well its not it yours, mine and everyone elses so its time to start taking the blame for the misdeeds we have done and those we continue to do.

We can be so much and achieve goals beyond our imagination but we would rather fight and bicker, trapped in a materialistic World.

Dorian, no your dog is smart because it has learnt by its mistakes and wont do it again but man makes the same mistakes over and over again and thats the problem, he does not learn. Man is trapped on a giant hamster wheel, going round and round but getting nowhere.

What you're describing is basically egoism, which all living things contain but humans have it to the largest degree. Instead of starting over, people when they feel the need to have to become more altruistic and "love thy neighbor as thyself". That would solve problems but people would rather be consumed by their egoism, and stay as the animals they were born into.

While i am sure that even dumbest representative of Fungi kingdom is a lot smarter then a "dumbest" representative of Animalia kingdom, i have to disagree on man as dumbest animal.
A lot - almost all - animals fight for stupid reasons and even kill each other. Smarter animals even screw each other too - ever seen how crows steal food from one another? And don't get me on using planet as toilet. At least we do not mark our territory as animals usually do.

Intelligence is a tool, it can be used for good and bad things. And in our universe it is easier to do bad things (like declaring that all people are bad) instead of good ones (like going out and helping fellow people instead).
So if you want to improve your own view on Human race, start from doing good stuff yourself first and we will catch on.
I personally see us as kids, without grown man telling us what to do. And so we do a lot of irresponsible stuff - but guess what? We grow up ,slowly though, and at least start to understand the responsibility we really have. Of course a lot choose to rant about how bad all is instead of doing something about it (even starting from simply not ranting, thus saving a plant or two at least by not wasting energy).
Plus , consider this - a huge asteroid is going to hit Earth sometime in a future. What all those intelligent, magic complex fungus do if there would be no dumb animal Human to somehow stop it?

I agree MagicMushroom.

I propose that those of us with any class remaining all gather ourselves together and meet at the grand canyon and play follow the leader, thats you Magic, and walk off the edge. Do the planet good.

Not mocking you magic, I'm only kidding.

On a serious note, I think this has to do with the fall of mankind from paradise or the garden of eden whatever that is. Once we return to paradise, we'll be OK Magic.

When the 'beast" (animal nature) and "false prophet" (religion) are tossed into the lake of fire, then the true party begins.

Don't give up on stupid humans, God sees something in us attractive. I haven't figured that out but I know its true.

We do all the same things, but in a different way.
In fact we almost now live in a different dimension to other animals.
So therefore the things will be different.
We don't use our home as a toilet, we have a toilet that takes it away.
Whereby an animal might screw another animal for food, we do it for a cell phone.Because animals have only food sex water etc.
They haven't evolved the same way we have.
Its an entirely different world we live in.
But in saying that, other animals may have evolved in other ways we don't know of and are not aware of.
Just like they have absolutely no clue what a computer is for.
