US to donate '$900m in Gaza aid'

The United States is preparing to donate some $900m (£621m) for Gaza, an Obama administration official said.

The aid would not go to Hamas, the group that controls the territory, but it would help the Palestinian Authority, the official added.

It comes as the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton prepares to attend a Palestinian donors' conference.

Ummm...sorry, but what is going on?

Why does the US feel it reasonable to dontat this amount of cash to Gaza when the economy is the way it is, many are homeless and/or jobless and many others on the brink of losing everything.

Why is Gaza more important than the other millions worldwide that are currently suffering from starvation or AIDS?

What purpose do events like Live Aid have if governments can donate so much to a war torn area (created by the weaponry they make and sell) yet can't donate to things like Oxfam or the Red Cross?

The aid would go to nongovernmental and UN organisations, with some going to the Palestinian Authority, the official said.

The way this is worded makes me think that portions of Gaza are going to be bought up and developed in a wa y that makes a peofit from the donation..

I would love to know who over sees all that money and that it is going to good use and not just siphoned off threw other outlets. If it is a scam then it would go perfectly with this thread here:www.abovetopsecret.com...

well seeing as the Damage was caused by US made weapons given to Israel
its only fair the US pay towards fixing the mess her master has created.
how many of those buildings were Run by Hamas or how many of those people were members of Hamas

What they ought to #ing do is spend all that money in the States (increase economy) making blankets and clothing and food. And send THAT to Gaza. Then NO group can spend it on munitions. Kill two birds that never should have been a problem in the first place with one stone.

You can have the same topic in two or more different sections in ATS/BTS, but to have hte same topic in one section is where Mods would close one down, normally the one posted after the first, but sometimes it depends on how popular one of those threads happen to be at the time. Some threads catch the attention of others due to the time of day they are posted.


Helping to strengthen peoples pockets or better thier lives with material things would have been a far better idea than to just ship off all that money to some other place.

I hope they dont use western union as that cost 12GB pounds to send up to 100 and increases dramatically the more you want to send

It still is almost a criminal act when you consider all of the others who are currently suffering in the home country that is supplying the donation...

Horray, another big bunch of cash we are giving to other people instead of using it to fix our problems. And the best part? Israel is probably gonna snag it and say it is preventing it from getting to terrorists.

I second that thought...USA needs to become a producer of something other than war and money. Foreign aide should be directly material.

900 Million in nice new, crisp, freshly printed bills. That's right, just keep printing it. A one off baseball card is worth thousands, but thousands of one baseball card is worth crap. So let's just keep printing money, and handing it out like it's going out of style.
