Does anyone think maybe the record companies were encouraged to market the gangsta rap thing in order to immediately counter the political messages originaly there? After all when the majority of hip-hop/rap is about selling and using drugs, mistreating and using women, shooting each other and fighting and getting drunk and partyign and all that, who would take any of the valid political messages seriously? They tend to be accused by the mainstream of not be true rappers and such. I mean you still get some underground rappers trying to spit the real truth, but they dont get the marketing they need from the record companies because then it would encourage our people to challenge the government seriously and politically rather than keeping ourselves stupid and doped up. Music has an affect on the human mind regardless of what people believe. Marketing is the key to success. If noone knows you exist how can you get a message across? I realize many people on this board own businesses or work for big companies. Imagine someone who owned their own marketing agency or company and sponsored and supported the rappers that have true meaning and a real message.

Because it's a thing called slander. And telling impressional young people things that aren't true is down right disgusting. Hell I'm even going to tell my kids that Santa isn't real - just so they know who makes the effort to afford the expensive presents.

Blaming hip hop huh? There are many people who are into rock and metal, blame that.

Where did you get the idea that his blaming hiphop. Hiphop is just someone talking, like perverted rap. # like hiphop is money is money oriented, so the idea of them portraying a message, would only be to help people in power. That all fall into the same genre of a fad.

There is nothing to blame about rock and metal.
I guess you could blame the Beatles for sounding cheesy, the Rolling Sones for looking like a cripple, and Queen for prancing around like a fag.

Of course. If they let things develop, we would see an internal revolution in US, mainly from black people. They slowly turned rap music to 'hip hop' (it is hip to hop!), gangsta bitches and all that, and they found another tool to de-humanize and corrupt our youth.

I listen to all that kind of music, Hip hop and pop...but it does nothing for me...it's just entertaining I guess. It's true those hip hop song frequently talk about bitches, pimp, cars (all crap about inch wheels, escalade windows tints...) sex, drugs, but you know what, that is the realty we live in right now. Some artist in this industriy (like Eminem...) are revolutionary in their lyrics but people don't get it.
Actually, I'm sick of hearing about cars, I hate cars!!! Mine is a piece of crap!
Big boobs too, cute asses and all the sex everywhere!!! Man, it's enough
But guys wants to have a nice car and a nice little girl with big boobs next to him no?! So that's not the hip hop, that's the society and artists in this industry follows it. That's it!

I want a new John Lennon to make songs like IMAGINE. John Lennon was like us, he knew about it! Just like many others in that time, when it was'nt too late to change things.

So that's not the hip hop, that's the society

Oh come on! I wouldn't like my girl to dress like a bitch, nor I would like fast cars and guns. All I want, and i believe others too, is happiness: a nice girl that I love and she loves me, caring, understanding, attention, peace, etc.

Hip hop is BS. Until the end of the 80s, it wasn't even called that. It was rap music, that is political or party music started from black people. They had to make it mainstream, otherwise people would have a means to protest.

I say bring back Herbie Hancock. Oh wait - DON'T. He is responsible for all those dumba$$ DJs and 'MCs' thinking they are 'up wid it' by releasing 'Rockit' and pioneering generations of record scratchers. Sure it sounded original, but dammit you get sick of something after a while. Just like I'm sick of Eminem and that whole D12 (couldn't get anywhere until Eminem helped - say that sounds like 50cent too - I wouldn't pay 2 cents let alone 50cents for anyhting of his).

ok first of all, hip hop started as a medium of escape for poor poor kids living in the bronx, harlem, queens, and really, all the poor neighborhoods flooded with violence. It started with graffiti arts and breakdanceing. this was one type of contribution to the culture. it was positive. what is viewed as hip hop (not that i dont like the artists), from artists like nelly (who arent hip hop at all) or ludacris, eminem, g - unit, snoop, who ever you see as a big shot on mtv.... these are the people taking away from the meaning of hip hop. when you ryhme about being so big, i got the diamonds, the girls, the money...its all materialistic. people go to great causes for material goods, violent causes sometimes. that was the reason for hip hop; to stop violence. if you want real hip hop and not braggadocio stuff, look at real artists like mos def, immortal technique, talib kweli, del the funkee homo sapien. these are artists with a message. again...you cant argue with opinion though.

and real quick in response to masterp here...hip hop has neve been considered rap. when krs one and busy bee and cool mo d, sang, in the early 80's, not late, they considered themselves hip hop artists. so before you downplay your credibility, read. to everyone...dont watch tv or news for your beliefs. our own goverment leaders, in response to plotting say "the american people dont read". is this why so much is allowed. f*ck CNN, F*ck fox news, F*ck c-span. what makes you believe these are credible sources. theyre mainstream, its called funding. who funds these stations. rich people. 90%of the money in 10% of our poulation. think about it. who is running sh*t here? hmmmm. masterp.....read man. Im not being a hater, i just want everyone to think before we speak. build each other up, constructive critisism, and i too, would like this. so anyone, please..enlighten me as well.

heres something interesting i found from the new anti-bush eminem video.

notice anything interesting? *cough* eye *cough* also, if you look at the lyrics, a certain part i found interesting is:

"No more blood for oil, we got our own battles to fight on our own soil
No more psychological warfare, to trick us to thinking that we ain't loyal
If we don't serve our own country, we're patronizing a hero
Look in his eyes its all lies
The stars and stripes, they've been swiped, washed out and wiped
And replaced with his own face, Mosh now or die
If I get sniped tonight you know why,
Cause I told you to fight."

i may probably be overthinking, but i think its certainly something to ponder. i'm not sure if this is the right thread for it or not, but i didnt feel like creating my own thread. lol

any rapper that has made it into the "rap game"
has an education n if not education is very intelligent is they werent intellengent they wouldnt be able to make music like they do n wouldnt be able to get over millions of people to get there music....Rappers are hard workin people that need more credit from others besides the people that listen to the music.........DON JUST THINK CAUSE WE RAP ABOUT BITCHES, GUNS,MONEY,DRUG THAT WE ARE BAD PEOPLE ITS THE WAY WE GREW Up...No jus because its the way we grew up dont make it an excuse....we try n make ourselfs better as the second hand passes every second!

Don't forget Rage Against The Machine. Hip hop inspired musical protest at its finest.

The most educated artists are usually the ones who last the longest in the minds of their fans.

Those kind of media and lifestyles that the Negro culture and corrupt youth practically worship, are all just fecal material I say. It encourages everyone mesmerised by it to be violent and opressive. And it's only going to get worse. I don't know where to start really. I'll have to agree that it is subliminal messaging.

Whenever my two friends come over without permission, to download music and use my cd burner, it gets ugly. They're white, and were in the same gifted/talented class I was in back in 8th grade. They start to download their [c]rap. The first second their little brains absorb the subliminal messaging they rock back in their chair and cheer "YEA, YEA, UHH, UHH". And then they start acting violent, trying to break my speakers and insulting me. Then they turn the television to BET and MTV. They also start downloading ghetto pornography, violent videos and the like which in turn they are knowingly trying to give my computer virus and spyware because that's what comes with that vulgar content. More sadness right there. I have to make them leave if it gets way out of hand. They are not doing this because they are trying to be black, I can bet that it is because of the subliminal messaging. It's infected their minds. When they download white music they are not violent. Even a 30 seconds after they've seen a commercial about some 'Scion' automobile they start being violent. The aformentioned commercial is a much smaller dose of ****, takes more time to kick in to their horny little minds, but always has the same tragic effects.

America's youth have been corrupted beyond repair, that is until one of those brainwashed kids should live to turn something like 40 it should wear off. 5 months ago there was one caucasian child on the school bus, 5th grader maybe, he was listening to some repeating rap beat. It only lasts 10 seconds but it repeated for like 3 minutes. When it was time to disembark, I punched the back of his brainwashed head. He was like "Yo man! Back off!" It was true punch that had 'RAP SUCKS' written all over it.

America should have something I like to call: 'The Department of Media Approval and Regulation, USDMAR", which approves and regulates most anything that can be utilised by media distribution systems. You know what I'm talking about right. Maybe they already have something like that but it's just not working. All this ghetto gangster yo yo yo # all just sucks. I would truly like to see the day when it is abolished.
