I know about binaural beats and frequencies affecting the brain and whatnot, but honestly, it annoys me when music is always spoken of as a brainwashing new world order tool. In my experience, it just simply isn't. At all. I listen to Rap, Pop, Hardcore, Metal, Rock, Jazz, Classical, you name it, and not once have I felt the need to go rape teenagers, hail some Antichrist or Satan, nor have I gotten the urge to sit back and let my government rule my existence (because according to some, that's what music should do to you).

Rap isn't just idiots talking over a beat. Its real music made with real talent. Metal and Hardcore isn't just screaming and wailing on a guitar. Its complex and emotional music that takes quite a bit of intelligence to make. Its as real as anything. Rock doesn't promote bad behavior or anything like that, its just fun and carefree.

What becomes the product of listening to music is what the person listening to it gets from it. Its also the fear from people that just can't accept new forms of music that taints it's image, because it's easy to blame when you don't like it and want it gone.

Times are changing, and people are becoming more open and accepting of taboo subjects. And music is an example of this. It's just that simple, and people who can't change are just hindering the progress of music.

Music is something that is beautiful in all forms in my opinion. And to say a type is bad or terrible or what have you is just plain ignorance. You have a choice on how you want to interpret a song.

...are you sure?

Because I have it on good authority that Rap was created by the CIA to kill off the black community.

I think the people who do become negatively influence by such things are the ones who have something off-balance to begin with. People will use it to define who they are or who they hang out with, and some people take it to the extreme where they think they have to personify what one artist may have written about on a bad day a few years back.

Sure, artists will capitilize on this effect because as artists that is what they are after, to have an effect on someone... its when bands simply pander to that audience instead of evolving and making pertinent statements or music that their tunes lose that sense of artistry, for instance a band that still writes songs about the problems they had with their parents when they are now in their thirties... stop playing the emo "i hate you mom!" card. If you are in a position to say something and have people hear it, why not do more than exploit base emotions or tell them to "put your hands in the air like you just dont care".

In the end though you are right, even tho a certain type of music may not be your bag, theres still a reason to appreciate it for at least one aspect.

Ha ha I just read the post about the CIA and rap. Ridiculous

I agree with you, sometimes music is a little too manufactured for my taste, but still no conspiracy there. Personally, I hate commercial emo and soft pop and rock, but I know someone else thinks otherwise.

As I see it, to label a specific genre as evil shows a hatred towards the demographic (not just talking about rap, talking about all music) that listens to it, and is used as a disguise for that racism/hate.

Well you don't have to become Hitler to do an awesome amount of destruction and evil. You just need to be one of the billions doing the same 'harmless' thing.

Times have changed, music has changed, and so is evil. But music is just one thing evil can use, there are many more..

Don't get me wrong, I also love music and listen to the same spectrum of music as you do. But I very carefully choose the tunes I listen to.

One of the things that it promotes, which I'm sure you'll agree is sex and drugs. Look at what people in high school and middle school are listening to now: Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Katy Perry (I kissed a girl and I liked it..) etc.

It promotes porn. Why else do you think the porn industry is one of the BIGGEST revenue makers? It's because society makes it like that via certain persuasion techniques, one being music.
