CIA Invented Rap Too Destroy The Black Community!

The CIA does not nor has it ever possessed enough in the way of rhythm to have invented rap.

It is true that rap music does seem to glorify all the stereotypes that black people have had to endure. The drugs and alcohol, violence, sexual irresponsibility, the rejection of education. While I seriously doubt it was "invented" by the CIA, I do think it's detrimental to the black community as it only reinforces those traits in their minds and in the minds of others.

Black people have been held back and put down for centuries by other races, but hip-hop culture is one example of black people holding themselves back.

I may get attacked for that statement, but it's a sad truth.

im not sure if the creator of this thread should have his own show (a comedy, no doubt), or should be kicked off the internet for incredible ignorance.

a lot of people might be familiar with "slumdog millionaire". a news show did a recent story on the slums where that movie's story takes place. those people are POOR, yet their slums are not ravaged by violence, misery, rape, and drugs. its not heaven, but they manage to be civil, to fend for themselves, and to run their makeshift family businesses.

that says a lot about the culture of india. and that says much about many african-american communities in the US. and this has nothing to do with Rap music...which was, of course, created by the CIA.

Yes, you're right, but so am I. I said that Rapture was the first rap hit. It was the first to go no. 1 on the charts and, just like with Elvis, white singers popularized a black genre, opened the door to the big white heartland via top 40 radio. Very important distinction.

Blondie was a NY band. Debbie Harry and the band members were kicking around in the NYC club scene before they became big, and after too, and picked up on the rap movement. I remember, because I was just out of school, in NYC then, and going out a lot, and she'd pop up everywhere, like Madonna and Warhol and Keith Haring. They all knew each other. Haring picked up on graffiti, for example, and did pretty much with it what Blondie was doing with rap and reggae.

There's also the Chic "Good Times/Le Freak" side of rap too, from disco, of all things. So as soon as it popped up, it was already being co-opted or "sampled" by other "inauthentic" but perceptive musicians.

So, if you want to follow the paranoid logic of the OP, then it's Blondie and Chic who are the CIA disinfo agents he/she posits, because they were interlopers, sampling a genre that belonged to another world and bringing it mainstream.

But this is ludicrous. They were just doing what every artist does--taking what was new, in the air, and playing with it and making it their own. Or exploiting it, if you want to be cynical about it.

Rapper's Delight was a hit worldwide, and reached #1 in Canada. It was also VH1's #2 rap song of all time. Blondie only did Rapture after Rapper's Delight saw success.

Now honestly look around and tell me why it's the "CIA's" fault for issues plaging the black community. Once again, the blame is placed elsewhere and because of that, things will never change.

The only way a Black person will be taken seriously by the hegemony is if they join a secret society or become a Republican or something. The irony is that nobody takes Black Republicans seriously except themselves.

Fact is, supporters of different styles of music have been taking pot shots at each other for years. The genre doesn't matter. its purely a throwback to tribal living, where groups of people who identify with form rivalries with other groups of people.

Its nothing new at all, and if you don't believe me, watch Quadrophenia, or talk to some old school rockers. Violence was as much a part of those scenes as it is the rap scene.

the thing is most people who do not know ANYTHING about rap always seem to talk about silly things like baggy jeans, bi#ches and bling. It seems you are all stuck in a late 80's early 90's impression on what rap is about.

Rap on the radio is just as poor as most rock or pop on the radio, lowest common denominator drivel for 8-16 year olds. Sadly, this is what most people think of when they talk aout rap.

Real rap music fans are much more varied than that. Many rap artists are WORDSMITHS and modern POETS who are interested in wordplay and rhyme styles.

While rap music as an artform was not created by the CIA, the early socially conscious rhymes of raps "golden era" have been pushed aside by those in the RECORDING INDUSTRY in exchange for the glorified gangsterism and mindless consumerism of popular rap. And when one looks at the ownership of said RECORD COMPANIES you could argue that the direction they promoted and pushed is actually working against not the "black" community but rather, the ENTIRE HIP HOP COMMUNITY. The entire youth culture has been pushed into mindless consumerism and selfishness by ALL MAJOR MEDIA in the last 20 or so years. And yes, music is a powerful tool used by THE POWERS THAT BE to shape pop consciousness. So in that light, I can see perhaps what the OP was trying to get at, even if he didn't know it.

Even hip hop afficianado's lament the state of much of hip hop today.

That being said, like most artforms, the most popular is not the best. Many GREAT hip hop artists discuss these very topics in their songs.

In the end Hip Hop/Rap is a music which probably discusses a wider range of topics than ANY OTHER GENRE.

Real hip hop will never die. Those who have been bitten by its infectious potential know this. Those who haven't never will.

Come on. Rap in all of its forms evolved out of Hip Hop which began in the early to mid 70's in New York City. I grew up watching the evolution on MTV. When I was a kid it was Grandmaster Flash, Kool Moe Dee and Run DMC. Remember break dancing and the movies Beat Street and Breakin. Unfortunately, that innocent music evolved into the current mix of crap they call Gansta Rap. IMHO these gansta rappers have no talent and are certainly not musicians.

All music evolves. Some forms die off along with the bands like Winger, thank God or simply morph into something else. Early Rap/Hip Hop was great at sampling and mixing of other songs into modern tunes.

If the CIA is behind Rap then they must be behind Punk and Death Metal too. Sounds rather strange doesn't it?
