David....

I am sorry about your kid on the way. I am sorry about you thinking everyone is taking YOUR money. I am sorry the whole system seems to be crashing down, and you think it is because of people taking your tax dollars?

Hell, I don't have a vehicle, OR a house... and never will. I go to college, and work for myself to come up with what I need...

But to be honest, do you seriously believe that this system can be saved if right now, individual citizens stopped taking your tax dollars?
YOUR money? This is not ANY of our money... you of all people should know how the Federal Reserve works. I mean, the Fed prints the dollars we use, and then charges the country above and beyond what exists.. if that makes sense. And the government has been spending above and beyond what they bring in. It is THEIR money, THEIR system, THEIR debt. NOT mine.
I voted Ron Paul... a currency backed by value, and financial responsibility. That woulda been the only way to get out of this bloody hole... filling the hole, instead of continuing to dig it deeper.

I like and agree with your rants, usually...

But honestly, do you think that the system is NOT in it's final throws before it all comes collapsing down?
All I see is chaos as the government, banks, and other rich entities are funneling the last resources from the sinking ship before it all goes down.

But, go ahead and think that this current system is NOT currently in a chaos before a collapse... all because some individuals wanted your tax dollars....

P.S. Thanks for the thread... apparently one of my rants was long-overdue, too.

I'm sorry you lost it at work.

The $7500 credit from the first stimulus is not like the new $8000 one in that it is a true tax credit, meaning it doesn't have to be repaid as long as buyers remain in that house for more than 3 years. That is $8,000 or 10% of homes value, whichever is less.
Lawrence Yun, chief economist for the National Association Realtors (NAR) wanted a $15,000 one. However he said that the new tax credit will bring 300,000 more home buyers to the market this year. Also, the higher conforming loan limits were restored for FHA and conventional loans.
(my husband does loans still)

If you are a realtor or a loan officer or an appraiser, insurance, WHATEVER! (which some of you on ATS might be) This keeps you in your job. It keeps food on your families table.

Anyone in "the industry" will tell you the $8000 is not enough.

last time i checked all monies held by the government are either the funds taxed from its citizens or debt their citizens are ultimately liable for through future taxation.

so that 10000 dollars is yours, and if you ask me, we probably wouldnt be in the jams we're in today if the government didn't force money from the system to begin with. You wanna talk about "not stealing other's money" then direct your frustration at the IRS.

I agree and you know what sets me on rants is the amount of people that rely on government funding for everything. Everyone wants a friggin handout and when they run into trouble who do they look for assistance? THE GOVERNMENT!

Independence has failed and the people or sheeple have allowed themselves to become fully dependent on our corrupt government. THEY ARE MORE WORRIED ABOUT THEIR PHYSICAL CRAP THAN ANYTHING ELSE! The worlds coming to an end and they seem to be happy if they have their new car or television. They self induce a state of denial to hide from whats happening and focus elsewhere......

This is what happens when we choose comfort and safety over freedom.
This is what we have allowed.

Compare the size of the people to the ones running and controlling them....
It's ridiculous.... all of it....

My 2 cents. Now I must go cool down...

I lurk here fairly regularly ... here is my rant:

They want to encourage new buyers to get into houses, fine. What the financial powers that be want right now is more long-term "GOOD" debt. If an 8,000 credit on a 200,000 house is gonna get some people into "Good" debt, it sounds like a "viable" plan to me.

Here is what I think: Americans have been systematically bullied (and for the most part, loved it!) into living beyond their means via 2 routes.

1. Forced to into houses they could not afford - NOT through sneaky adjustable rate mortgages, but even MORE sneakily through planning laws made during the late 70's. that effectively made small, frugal houses illegal. There are very many states & city governments in this country that simply will not allow you to build a modest home.

2. Forced into car ownership. Car companies at the turn of the century systematically bought out & closed down commuter rails. Together with city planners they criss crossed our country with noisy, smelly, horrible high ways and toll roads and made planning and zoning laws effectively making it impossible to be a successful and contributing member of American society without vehicle ownership. Unless you live in an urban environment, you are out of luck. (Makes it even more ironic that the car companies are failing - the built the "perfect" racket and couldn't even keep that afloat!)

It is my opinion that these two things have made the cost of living in the country so high that average people cannot survive above the poverty line doing average paying jobs.

What might help? Allowing house prices to crash, and hopefully rent prices will come down with them. Better telecommuting technology so more people can work from home. Honestly, I don't know. We're just plain going to have to rethink how we do business. It's going to be a bumpy ride.

Nemesis, this is not the real root of my anger. The anger is that this is more of the same problem.

The anger is that we are so overcome by debt yet people are acting like it's raining money and we are all rich.

Everyone seems to have a sense of entitlement and that is part of the reason we are going down the tubes as a country.

I may have made some angry at me for this thread. I didn't think it would get this kind of response.

And frankly, it's made me even more worried about things turning around.

I don't hate people. I don't.

I see our country is dieing...I don't want it too.

Well I have a great deal of respect for anyone who can do as you have. But it isn't possible for everyone. My 5 acre lot cost me $78,000 back in the mid-80's.

I agree with you on that. Its not possible for everyone. Hell, I couldnt buy 5 acres for 80k either. What I could do was spend 10k on 5 acres a little farther out of town.

What I am saying is people need patience and sacrifice. I worked hard and have what I have. Should I want to move or buy a new house, I can sell mine and then Ill have the funds to do it. Took 3 years to build my place. Alot of work and dedication. Why should I support someone, anyone who simply thinks they deserve what they want, where they want right now and I get to help foot the bill?

Where do you guys live? Because in my area you can't find 5 acres for anywhere near those prices. And if you want land that has water on it, well you will pay for that out your uhm.... Here is the cheapest I found in my area just now, Lot Size: 3.36 Acres $239,900.00, seasonal irrigation. It has a small trailer on it.

For those of you that don't know, seasonal irrigation means, if their has been enough snow, you might have enough irrigation to water some trees on your land if you can get the permits and figure out a way to store the water legally on your land somehow. Seasonal irrigation, does not even give you enough to keep a small garden going for a season. It is just a nice way of saying, hay if it rains or snows, you can use the water from spring till the beginning or a touch into part of summer LEGALLY. Seasonal irrigation also, usually means, that you get access to the water once or twice per week, for approx one hour depending on your specific contract.

Oh, and here ya go 20.2 acre(s) DRASTIC PRICE REDUCTION $5,385,000.00 NO HOUSE. Have fun buying that one.

Or 12.79 acre(s) $1,800,000.00 and again. NO HOUSE but it does have full irrigation on part of the land.

Now, here is 1 acre ONE ACRE, no irrigation, and in our area without irrigation the land is basically useless, no house, no trees, nothing but dirt blowing in the wind $69,800.00

*funny voice "Good luck buying any of the properties around here f f folks." Wish I had bought around fifteen years ago, we could have gotten that above 12 acres for probably around $55thousand.

In this economy, we NEED first time buyers incentives.

Peace

its paid back over 8 years so where is the stealing angle coming from?

I understand having a difference in principle to loans, interest, and debt - or having a difference in principle to government spending and ballooning uncontrollably, but in this case people have a choice to take more debt or not to take more debt. The individual is only stealing from themselves by taking a credit line with only one qualification.

You have my deepest sympathies.
Last year my wife and I couldn't afford our payments on our house anymore. We sold it at a 25K loss. We just FINALLY finished paying for everything else PLUS the taxes we owed.
I didn't realize that by doing the right thing we just screwed ourselves. We should have just lived there a few months longer and Obama would have saved us!

badgerprints you are RIGHT.
The whole country seems to going for the "free"....there seems to be a lot of control given to those who are not considering the future. We are selling our future and our freedom. I say let the market fall. let it correct itself. God I pray it does. If not the "american" way of hard work and reward is over..those of us that work hard and pay our dues feel very mad and frustrated that we are funding other persons failures and lack of hard work. Let those that work hard get the reward. Why should I or anyone else fund via our taxes btw those that are lazy........and if I am paying high taxes it means I work hard! I have spent most of my life getting to where I am now. I worked hard.....spent countless hours in study and in school foregoing what others did and had and now it is being threatened to be taken away. I resent that. I think an across the board tax is what is needed. EVERYONE and I mean every one.........should pay a tax then they would appreciate what hard work is. The only exempt( I am contradicting myself I know) is the elderly or disabled. I am damn mad that responsible persons are being ripped of and our futures are being stolen. This IS NOT the world I wanted to inherit nor the world I wanted to leave to the children. NOT this world........full of laziness, cameras and a future of no hope!
I am mad too.....and I agree with the OP. We should rise up and revolt! Period......you know the history shows that taxes caused the original revolution......I say we do it again.......

Mike you have my sympathies........but exactly........this is why the obama plan is ridiculous. Lets just all stop paying our mortagage.......we can all qualify for a rebate! Thats an idea.........EVERYONE stop paying taxes and your mortages...........OBAMA will give us "free" money! OH Boy........I can save a lot more this month.........everyone don't pay your mortagage.........
Here comes the free money....line up and get yours and the chip is just behind........the government will take care of you no worries.....just line up and get it........isn't this great!

You're right. the response to this thread has been great!

Looks like you are not the only person here that is largely frustrated.

For all it's worth I think all of us are angry at the way we are watching those who were elected to represent us, destroy the last of our rights while running the country into the ground.
I miss the old America I used to know. And things will never be the same...

The only good thing to come from it was that I cashed out my 401K in june of last year to cover the rest. If I had waited just a few months THEN I'd have been doubly screwed

It is a TAX CREDIT. Not a loan. Not a hand out. It is an INCENTIVE to BUY HOUSES.

Should we stop giving tax credits for other things, like business expenses, charitable donations, student loan interest, medical bills? That would really be great!

I understand the scrutiny of these bills, but can we read abut them before we start crying socialism??

There's still widespread misunderstanding on the issue, but qualified purchasers who closed in 2008 will not benefit from the 2009 amendments. They're stuck with the old model, and will have to pay back the credit -- more precisely an interest-free loan from the government -- over the coming 15 years.

People who buy homes between Jan. 1 and Dec. 1 of this year may qualify for the $8,000, no-repayment credit. But they'll still have to pass most of the key eligibility tests imposed under the 2008 program.

Why would you "lose it"? I don't understand it fully.

There is no stealing involved except what is pictured in your mind. These are opportunities given to you to make things a little easier in these troubled times. It's a way to spark the home owners market and start forcing people to fork over big dough for mortgages.

If you don't start grasping for these offerings, then no money is generated. No incentive to buy and nothing is earned. The economy will continue to slump, because a couple of people are too stubborn to contribute anything.

This is what got us in the problem in the first place!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

People who NEED help buying a home SHOULDN'T be buying one in the first place!!!

I learned that the hard way and lost a bucket of money...BUT.... I PAID for it, I PAID for my mistake.

PERSONAL RESPONSIBILTY live it, learn it, love it!
