SANTA BARBARA, CA--(MARKET WIRE)--Feb 19, 2009 -- Carbon Sciences Inc. (OTC BB:CABN.OB - News), the developer of a breakthrough technology to transform carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions into gasoline and other fuels, announced the filing of the first in a series of patent applications protecting the company's novel and highly scalable biocatalytic process to transform CO2 into liquid fuels.

The patent application, "A Biocatalytic Process and System to Transform Carbon Dioxide into Methanol," was submitted to the United States Patent and Trademark Office on February 17, 2009. This first patent application details a complete Process Flow Diagram ("PFD") for a system that takes CO2 directly from a large emitter, such as a coal-fired power plant, and transforms it into methanol, a low level fuel, using Carbon Sciences' proprietary biocatalytic process. The resulting methanol is usable directly as a fuel, or it can be used as a building block to create higher level fuels such as gasoline, butanol and jet fuel. The company is currently underway with the design and development of additional biocatalytic systems to create these higher level fuels from low level fuels such as methanol.

Dr. Naveed Aslam, inventor of the technology and chief technology officer of Carbon Sciences, commented, "Based on our molecular and process flow simulations, we believe our biocatalytic process can achieve 99% conversion efficiency of CO2 to fuel in a single pass. The system throughput, meaning the rate of fuel production, and operating costs are things we are still optimizing."

Since SO much of the world's energy is still being generated from coal-fired power plants, this could be a very important technology!

Pass it around!

Hopefully this isn't the only time and place we hear about this. But like many discoveries it is likely to get buried because it doesn't fit the plans of the people in control and their agenda. Hopefully this won't be the case. But I would guess, it will be added to the list of patents that were applied for and not issued. This won't fit into the supposed "carbon tax" initiative. Tough to tax carbon, if we have a way to counteract it and make a fuel from it.

Thanks for posting this.

Can i get the source to get more educated about this new technology?

This is quite stunning and the implications are enormous economically, politically and environmentally. There goes the CO2 = global warming scam, for a start. Essentially they've managed to recycle spent fuel with 99% efficiency. Wow.

What you missed in your OP, but which is very important is this paragraph:

Dr. Aslam continued: "Our proprietary biocatalytic CO2-to-Fuel process is based on emulating the natural process of certain microorganisms where internal biocatalysts are used to transform CO2 and water into fuel molecules. These biocatalysts generally die after a few cycles. Our breakthrough and proprietary technology is based on advanced nano-engineering of the biocatalysts, which enables the biocatalysts to perform their CO2 to fuel transformation hundreds of thousands to millions of times, before they die. What we have disclosed in this patent application is a complete industrial system using our biocatalytic process to transform CO2 into methanol, a low level fuel."

So, the opaque word "biocatalytic" is actually nanotech/bio-engineered microbes--proprietary, patented critters. Brave new world. In a way, they managed to replicate the natural processes that lead to the formation of oil but at an incredibly accelerated pace.

@GEORGETHEGREEK: Yes the source link is there, above the quoted text

@gottago: yes very important paragraph indeed! I didn't want to quote too much of the source article, but thanks for pointing that out

You may have a point, but we can't allow ourselves to fall victim to this kind of pessimistic thinking. We should be doing everything we can to help these emerging technologies make it to market! Tell your friends, contacts, neighbors, coworkers, post about it on other sites, that's the LEAST we can do....

This company also has the process to produce carbonate, used in the paper industry as a coating.

This beats sequestration. If the CO2 is so bad for the environment that it's a pollutant, why would we want to store it, for release in the future.
Mother Nature did the sequestration thing up near the north pole, and now she is releasing it to show her wrath. It's not nice to fool with MN...

This sounds like the censored Nazi technology of WW2 that the governments have kept under wraps for 60+ years, maybe?

I can't help but wonder how quickly this will be suppressed.

I have seen so many thing come out like this but, failing to hit the tipping point...they just vanish.

Will this be another one of those? Watch the MSM and if it is never mentioned...then it is being suppressed.
