I think you are right... sort of. Bush did get mocked, and his supporters also. However, the big difference here is, most of that didn't begin until after reelection, when everyone was left scratching their heads at how people still voted for him.

Many of us found it amazing that he won the reelection, and then weeks later the same people who elected him jumped ship and his approval ratings dropped.

Obama supporters were being mocked before he got elected, before he made any decisions, and before he was even given a chance. Despite all of Bush's mistakes, people wanted him to succeed. I don't think many of us wanted to fail in Iraq (though we still don't understand why we are there), or wanted everything to fall apart.

And therein lies the difference: people want Obama to fail. They want his supporters to feel dumb, they want to prove that they were right, they want to justify their statements that he was only elected because he was black.

You see, they have as much at stake here now as the liberals do. Liberals have touted change and other rhetorical statements, but conservatives may have put a foot in their own mouth by being aggressive right back in the accusations of failure.

Now, if Obama succeeds, conservatives will be looked at as failures for failed predictions and harsh criticisms.

Excellent points! I don't have any real recollection of people mocking Bush supporters before or after the election, but I do remember the questions of "WHY?" after the first term. I've had friends who voted for Bush both times but I don't make fun of them or mock them.

I wonder if people didn't make as much fun of Bush supporters and focused more on the man and his administration because his actions were more evil (for lack of a better word) than we perceive Obama and his policies which are being perceived by the right as inept, a product of inexperience.

Maybe the amount of mocking to make people appear foolish lessens as the amount of evil increases? =)

I think there were definitely some who mocked Bush supporters. They called them "Bushies", or whatever. It seems that conservatives are so bitter about the last years of sharp criticism against Bush, and now they are responding with a vengeance.

It probably feels pretty good to them... they have nothing to lose and feel they can blame anything bad on democrats now.

stop mocking them? why?
especially when they put out neo-fascist/socialist hero worship tripe like this:

i respect those who may have voted for obama but now realize they messed up.

ill stop mocking "obama bots" when they grow some stones, and swallow their pride. just admit that obama is another puppet of the globalist corporate bankers that are robbing this country blind. many years ago i voted for bush, i quickly realised he was a fraud when he wouldnt secure the border like he said he would, i had to admit i was wrong. it wasnt hard to do and it certainly didnt take long. admitting you screwed up is the first step to recovery.

if we can bring obamas public support numbers down fast enough he wont be able to screw us that bad. the only thing he has going for him, is his zombie hoards who voted for him because of his fancy campaign marketing, his ablity to read a banker programmed teleprompter, or simply because "he is cute."

what mindless babble! anyone who refuses to pull their head out of their butt and see obama for the fraud he is deserves to be mocked. seriously, apointing a man who dosnt pay taxes as treasury secratary sure is real change... disgusting.

I supported President Bush for 8 years and was mocked. Now Mr. Obama has been President for a month and his supporters are already crying about being mocked? Give me a freaking break!

But on the bright side, you only have 3 years and 11 months left to be mocked, because this guy is a 1 term President.

It's great that you supported Bush for 8 years, unfortunate that you were mocked. But were you mocked a month into his presidency? Were you mocked before Bush's policies even had a chance to fail?

Let the guy fail before you start pouring judgement down all over him.

Actually, yes.

Remember the election of 2000? How much screaming and yelling was going on then? "Bush stole the election!!!". "He's not MY president!" And then when he was running against Kerry, you got to see the witty, "Redefeat Bush" bumper stickers.

Bush was screwed from the get-go. Obama will be getting a pass for the next four years because he can blame everything on Bush and Republicans.

I definitely remember that whole debacle. I live in Florida and it was definitely a pretty... embarassing situation over here! I remember all the picketing about how Bush stole the election, and all the mobilized republicans doing their best to disrupt the recount process for a bevy of reasons. Whether or not those republicans (or democrats) were wrong isn't really the case, I can totally understand them each doing their own things to try to make sure their guy won.

But the question I asked was whether or not supporters of Bush were mocked, not whether or not Bush was mocked. And you didn't answer that question.

I can tell you one thing. Not one of his followers can tell you any thing that he stands for except change. What the hell does that mean when you are the leader of the free world. His election depended on the ignorant vote and he got it. Any one that would vote for such an incompetent person as the leader of the free world has got to be ignorant. What are the changes that he proposes? Tell me what the hell they are. You can't tell me because you don't know but does he.

This has got to be about the 100th time somebody has said this on ATS. I knew exactly what kinds of change he stood for when I voted for him and so did all the other Obama supporters I know.

Just for starters:
Withdrawal from Iraq (gradual if need be)
More troops in Afghanistan
Health care reform
"bottom up" economics, rather than the tired old "trickle down" that has never worked
Ending torture
Closing Guantanamo
Middle class tax cuts
More transparency in government
More regulation on Wall Street
A Roosevelt-type response to the economic crisis

And much, much more.

These changes are already happening on many fronts.

But if people like you can't see any change, that's fine. Stay clueless. It just makes it easier for us.

Are you serious?

Thanks to the surge Obama opposed, leaving Iraq with Victory instead of defeat was Bush's plan not Obama's

More troops in Afghanistan....(read paragraph above)
Health Care Reform? Well if you mean Government run health care...Why would anyone be for that?
Bottom Up economics? How many jobs can the poor actually create?
Ending torture? How can you end something that the US does not do?
Closing Club Gitmo? You actually fell for that! LOL! Announce to close a detention facility with no clue where the detainees are going? That is classic!
Middle Class Tax Cut? OK Thanks Obama for my extra $13 a week...but wait...that plus more will be gone by the time my state raises taxes to pay for their bailout.
More transparency? The only transparency I see is how many Democrats appointed to Obama cabinet refused to pay their taxes!
More regulation on Wall Street? How about a massive federal takeover of our banks?
Roosevelt? Give me a break...he prolonged the depression by atleast 8 years and we got out of it because of WW2.

Well, not ALL the middle class got tax cuts. In fact, seniors not yet on social security, but living on defined benefits retirement payments, still pay from $3,000 to $6,000 or more in FEDERAL INCOME TAXES, but are NOT eligible for the $400 tax credit, even though they file 1040's and may be paying more in federal income taxes than many getting the $400.00 per year for 2 years. Seniors such as my wife and I are paying well over $1,100 a MONTH for health care insurance, leaving us with almost nothing left on retirement income, and to make matters worse, we pay federal income taxes on that money which goes to health care insurance. Yes, I mock Obama supporters for believing him, and putting seniors in this situation. He's completely left seniors out of the "Stimulus package", but what the heck, ACORN got their payoff for all those non-eligible registered voters they brought in.

What ever happened to his "promise" to help seniors with federal taxes? We got the shaft as usual, because Obama NEVER had any intention of really helping seniors. He knows that seniors have very little political clout, especially since the AARP is really in the pockets of insurance companies, and only pays lip service to seniors. They are too concerned with selling insurance.

You really showed him! But see, this is the problem the conservatives have been experiencing. The QUESTION wasn't whether Obama had ideas that have worked, the QUESTION was whether any Obama supporters could name even one thing the man stood for. The response was laden with things Obama supported, and still does support.

See, now what you've done is pretty simple. You skipped right over the fact that people may have voted for Obama because he represented, for example, withdrawal from Iraq, and you decided to focus on Obama's outlook. They're two TOTALLY different things.

You cannot disagree with the fact that there are lots of reasons you would vote for Obama. If I want us out of Iraq and McCain says "we could be there for 100 more years," while Obama is saying he'll withdraw in some odd months, then what I have is a reason to vote for Obama. You can't argue with it.

This is why it's so hard to take you seriously.

Totally agree with you on the FDR bit though. He implemented sweeping government programs designed to lift us up out of the depression and it didn't do what it was supposed to do. He was able to lower unemployment, but to something like 16% which, while it's an improvement from the 20+% from before, it's not a save. WWII was our real savior. Too bad Iraq can't at least do that for us.

Mock Obama supporters? The ones who voted for change? Well I think you should take a good old fashioned mocking up the wazoo because he isn't changing anything.

CIA is staying the same. They are actually following the Bush Doctrine!
Change supports - 0 Bush - 1

Gitmo is actually getting worse! Not better but worse!
Change Supporters - 0 Bush - 2

Obama is sending another 75 BILLION to Iraq and Afghanistan!
Change Supporters - 0 Bush - 3

Bailing out the Banks? Bush did it and Obama follows!
Change Supporters - 0 Bush - 4

You call that change? I call that the new boss... Same as the old boss... Looks like Bush had it right after all huh? Or is Bush still the monkey he was always portrayed as? If so, Obama is the biggest Monkey of all!

Change? I think not... Obama is doing exactly what Bush did and you lefties love it. We won't mock you though...
