Cops clock man driving 137 mph in a 93 Honda Civic

www.examiner.com

GREENVILLE, N.Y. (Map, News) - State police have ticketed an upstate New York man for driving more than twice the 65-mph speed limit on an interstate highway. Troopers said a 21-year-old man was clocked doing 137 mph on Interstate 84 in Orange County on Tuesday. He was pulled over in the westbound lanes near Exit 2 in the town of Greenville, on the New Jersey border 60 miles northwest of New York City.

Troopers said the man was driving a 1993 Honda Civic.

The man was ticketed for speeding, reckless driving and having vehicle windows with illegal tint.

He's due to appear in Greenville Town Court on Feb. 25.

There was no telephone listing for the man.

The news clip about says it all. The guy was ticketed for going 137 mph in a 93 Honda Civic. I know they're good cars, but I didn't realize how good. I wonder if he was going downhill, or if he was doing that many mph on flat land? The tinted windows are also interesting; it's kind of surprising that the car has been around for 16 years without getting stopped before.

I'd be pretty amazed if that car wasn't modified in big ways.

Although I believe there was a line out then with a sport-tuned pressure shifter (correct me if I'm wrong but I know toyota and acura had one).

My '03 Honda Accord got up to 127 on a track, so I'm thinking this guy was either at a sharp decline or had some toys in that engine.

All honda's ship with a sport suspension though, as opposed to the toyota's softer ride.

I don't even feel safe going 80 on the Highway with the sporadic way people around me drive...

This guy has, as Duke Nukem wisely puts it, Balls of Steel.

Sigh that would be my husband.

Now I gotta drive him to work.

j/k. Kinda...

actually if you push a car, you would be surprised what it could do. I could get my escort a 110 before I couldn't hold the wheel.

I let my '03 Honda Accord (2.4L DOHC iVTEC 160HP) loose one day and the computer shut it down at 128. Given that my heart was in my throat, I'll allow that it might have been 127.

So we can't phone him to congratulate him then?

hi mr claus .. you have to remember your 03 accord is alot heavier than the 93 civic 160bhp it will do 95mph@about 8000rpm in 3rd gear and 118mph in 4th and creep up to 145mph in 5th every guy and his sister has them here in ireland.

I somehow hit 90 in an old 1983 Chevette.

It might sound unimpressive, but if you knew the car in question...
