Illinois Bill Proposes $1,000,000 Gun Insurance (HB0687)

Amends the Firearm Owners Identification Card Act. Provides that any person who owns a firearm in this State shall maintain a policy of liability insurance in the amount of at least $1,000,000 specifically covering any damages resulting from negligent or willful acts involving the use of such firearm while it is owned by such person. This is unbelievable ladies and gentlemen.

In effect, what this bill is proposing is that in order to own a firearm (ANY firearm) you must be able to produce a proof of insurance that has liability coverage of $1,000,000 or higher. This is "just in case" something should happen like an "accident" or a "willful misuse" of the weapon which results in damages. If you do not have this, your FOID (Firearm Owner Identification card) will be revoked and you MUST surrender your guns promptly to the police or else be charged of a felony.

In effect this will mean that only the rich will be able to own a gun legally in the state of IL if it passes. Everyone else who can't afford it will be a felon. This is no joke. I thought it was until I heard it on talk radio. Conservative talk radio that folks, the same radio that the Democrats want to silence with the "Fairness Doctrine". I then checked the Illinois General Assembly site, and sure enough, there it is. It is the bill number: HB0687

I urge anyone and everyone in the state of IL who is a, or supports, gun ownership to become VERY vocal and get this out there to everyone. We cannot allow this to pass as if it does here, it may very well be enacted in other states as well.

It never ceases to amaze me what lengths these liberal gun grabbers will go to in an attempt to turn our RIGHTS into privileges, so they can restrict them, turning law abiding citizens into felons.

I've located the representative that introduced this blatant violation of our 2nd Amendment Rights.

Below, I've included his contact information, and web-page so anyone that reads this thread, and wishes to keep their rights intact, will know who NOT to vote for when that time comes.

I also recommend sending him an email, voicing your opinion about introducing such idiotic legislation, and wasting your hard earned tax dollars trying to trash our Constitution and Bill of Rights at our expense.

Remind him that's it's not open to interpretation, and not negotiable.

I hope this bill will fail, but the fact it is still moving through the house here, it scares the hell out of me.

It may very well have been attempted before, we just maye have never heard about it. Again, I only heard of this on conservative talk radio, I don't know if it was mentioned anywhere else. Plus I didn't see it in te paper, and I really had to look and dig online to find it so I could put it up here. Get the word out there and let people know the truth.

And with the way the economy is, plus rising costs of everything else and the stagnation of wages, and job loss, I doubt it would be cheap.

I am surprised we don't have a $1,000,000 policy on car owners. After all, how many more people get hurt or killed in auto related accidents or malicious behavior (drunk driving, murder, drivebys) at the wheel of a car? Or accidents where a youngster puts the car in drive and careens through the street into a building? I mean come on. This would be a much better policy, and safer. That way only "responsible" and rich people can drive cars, and not the 18 year old or 16 year old who has a much higher accident death rate.
