Ok, they say our souls are conected to our bodys in some ways, and that this body is a host. Well what happens when a woman is pregnant, does the fetus inside her have a soul?

Or does it not have a soul until it comes out of the womb.

Thats a good questions, when the body becomes fully functional and the brain has developed i think thats when the soul comes into place. To be honest, im not sure so you might have to do a google search or something to find out.

A child is a part of the fathers and the mothers soul. So that each parent will live on through their children.

The women's egg or Part A is a portion of the mothers soul and the man's sperm is Part B and a portion of the Fathers soul. You need part A and B to come together to create life from which a portion of each soul is combined and creates a new "combined" soul. A new genetic map is built from the DNA of the two parents. If we could replicate this process then man could also produce souls. But as of yet we can not artifically produce an egg or a sperm, only harvest and assist in the combining process, we can introduce other protien agents that will modify the DNA "map" however to produce some desired effects. But we can not replicate from scratch (as of yet) the entire process.

The new combined soul is formed at the moment of inception, while it lacks the "brain" function to know it exists it does however exist and during the growth process begins to build the structures necessary to have complex independant thought. Thus allowing it to "know" itself to exist.

This is a very interesting thread. I'm looking forward to hearing what others have to say about it. I remember reading a book about past lives that stated that the soul entered when the foetus was fully formed. I can't remember the name of the book or I'd link to it.

There is no scientific way of telling. You have to remember that in all truth their isn't really any scientific definition of a soul either.
Souls can't be detected in adults, so therefore it's even more impossible to detect in the unborn.

I guess the answer all comes down to personal belief.

My belief is that our bodies are shells and our souls inhabit them a few months before we are born when the brain forms enough for emotions to be felt.

This is a good thread, and one that I hope we can keep civil. Y'see, this question is the basis of many a pro- or anti-abortion argument.

Personally, I believe that, as a human life (regardless of its intellectual capacity, the fetus has a soul; in my opinion (unfounded though it may be ), saying otherwise would be very much like saying a physicaly and mentally handicapped person does not have a soul, as they are not a 'fully formed' human.

Are we talking about a soul? Or your spirit, you soul is kinda like you , your personaltiy, it includs good and bad things about you, your spirit goes on to Heaven.

Assuming the soul exist, it is in existence as soon as conception accurs. As soon as the egg and sperm join it is human because it has the dna code of humans. Since Humans have souls as soon as something is human it has a soul. It doesn't matter how well it can think. If you base it on that you are saying people who have severe mental problems or in comas can't have a soul. That isn't fair.

Good point Qraz, many doctors today have the power, in Europe, to make life and death decisions for patients they deem as not worthy, such as coma and braindamaged patients. Lest the same in the US if you are considered to be in Persistent Vegetative State, a death sentence for those patients in the US and the alarming thing is that 43 % of those patients are misdiagnosed. I also think that making a value judgement on ones worth based on whether or not one has a soul is scary waters to tread and a base for the slippery slope of that ideal.

This is an interesting theory to me, I've heard about it for sometime. I, for one, do believe all living creatures may have a soul. I just had thought the soul to be weightless, but who am I to say.

Also I think for this theory to become less of a theory, all creatures who inhabit a body must be weighed just before death, right after death and then hours after death and even perhaps dug from the grave and re-weighed at some point. Too much work? But if this were to happen, what might it mean for those who weigh the same before and after? Does that mean they were/are soulless? No one can answer these questions, I know. But it does make you think.

Your soul, which is made by God, is infused directly when conception occurs. It isn't your mom's or dad's soul mingled, and they didn't make it physically.

No, your genetic code will through your children, your soul will not Rob. Each soul is individualised and not shared with each other so to speak. (I like the afro!)
