I am beginning to wonder if I should tell you that there is a orwellien book out there, called "1984", written by a guy named george orwell Quite a coincidence huh?

Also @ weedwhacker: i think forbidden planet looks fantastic! Maybe i am a bit more inclined to watch with the eye of the times it was produced in, but i still think it stood the test of time very well.

from the first moment of thx 1138, i knew i was watching something special.

in the opening is haunting ambient music and the glowing-green credits roll backwards (from top to bottom). it is very disorienting to watch credits roll from top to bottom.

the sound effects that were created for this film were pioneering and have been used as samples in electronic music for decades.

if you are keen to pick up subtleties such as this, i give this movie my highest recommendation.

A new version of 1984 is apparently in the works - now THAT would be fantastic. When I was a teenager for some reason i always had a copy of 1984 on me - i know it sounds familiar to a story about a guy who kept buying "catcher in the rye" but I loved the story- hated the idea.

I highly recommend reading 1984 and Fahrenheit 451 before seeing the movies. For me the books are always better. Especially in the case of Fahrenheit 451 IMHO.

I LOVE Family Guy....and the Simpsons, and 'Dead Like Me'.....AND Star Trek and Star Wars...and StarGate SG1, etc, etc, etc.

Well.....since we're on the subject of obscure Science Fiction movies, allow me to introduce "A Dog and His Boy" EDIT here....it's so old, this movie....the title might be "A Boy and His Dog".....you con look it up both ways....

probably not availaible, certainly hard to find.....written by Harlan Ellison (who, actually, though it's not well known), wrote the BEST ST Original series Episode, 'The City on the Edge of Forever'.

Harlan Ellison didn't work well with Gene Roddenberry. Mr.. Ellison didn't know the 'bible' of the show....or preferred not to to read it, whatever.


Mr. Ellison wanted a 'darker' version of the Starship Enterprise.....he envisioned drug dealers, and such.

The main premise of the script, as 'tweaked', to comport with Roddenberry's views, became the Episode.....as I said, possibly, with the exception of 'Amok Time', one of the best 'original' episodes of ST.

May not appeal to all tastes.....it is somewhat 'dark'.....but there is sly humor in it.....

Did you know that, given ANY multi-digit number, where all the digits add up to a multiple of three, that the NUMBER is evenly divisible by THREE!!!!!

One, (not obvious) example....the number 102....add the three digits, a one, a zero and a two....you get the number 'three'.....which means, that the number '102' is easily divisible by a factor of 'three'.

THIS is how to be fooled.....by mis-direction, and more mis-direction!!!!

WE all love to be entertained, of course. BUT, I want my entertainment to be done by very close-up sleight-of-hand....not baloney 'numerolgy'!!!!!

3 + 4 + 1 + 7 equals....15. Again, a multiple of 3!!!!!!

It's how many 'card tricks' seem to work....hate to give away too much, but multiples of 'three' are very powerful....but only to fool the innocent!



EDIT again....as to "THX-1138"??? Simply e-mail George Lucas and ask him.....I read this somewhere....I THINK it was the license plate on is car, at one point......or something that mundane!!!!!

He picked that number from somewhere, but it likely did NOT have the significance you're assignining it!!!!

This is like saying NCC-1701 means something!!!!
