I'm getting bored of correcting your perpetual mistakes, but no doubt I will keep on trying to 'educate pork'. don't get offended, that last bit is just from a Yorkshire saying, not personal.

You know, I really wish I hadn't written that, here, where i live, the saying is an inoffensive jokey remark, but the first part of the sentence was just ratty, high handed and unnecessary. Sorry.

Lets put it to bed Shattered. Like I said in one of my earlier posts, we all make mistakes.

This plane is old and less useful than the F-14 (unless AMM knows something I don't)
Why won't they retire it like they did with F-14?

F-14 is awesome aircraft for air superiority.

A great plane is only a piece of the pie. You also have to have great training, pilots, great overall maintenance, weapons systems, great air control, teamwork, etc.

The thing that made the F-14 great was it could detect enemies and fire on them before they had a chance.

Desert Storm 1 could have been won with A-4s, F-4s, and F-104s. Reason things get upgraded is because the upgrade's available, not necessarily because the current stuff is junk.

What is replacing the F-14 is a piece of junk. At the air show I went to they had a Super Hornet and the F-14 side by side. The crew dogs which I would have expected to like the new Hornet more expressed their disdain for the new Hornet and nearly wept when they talked about the retirement of the Tomcat. Not all changes are good, expecially since the Tomcat, not the hornet should have been upgraded.

How can you say its a piece of junk? Thats just stupid. The Super Hornet is a very advanced development of the F-18 and very capable too. If the Navy is forced by the politicians to use it in a way it was not really designed for that is not the fault of the aircraft.

Oh, I sympathise 100% with you, but the fact of the matter is that the F-14 is getting old. It's getting harder and harder to maintain, and it's just not the Cold War anymore. There's no longer any need for a long-range fleet air defence system. The Super Hornet can handle both, will be cheaper and easier to maintain (allegedly), blah blah blah. The F-14 rocks, and she will be missed.

yeah because it has not faught any foe that can go past mach 1

So I guess all of those Israeli Mig kills were all against subsonic aircraft? Or the AF kills against Migs, Mirages, and Sukhois in Desert Storm?
