Panasonic orders staff to buy £1,000 in products

Its electronic gadgetry is gathering dust on the shelves of high street stores, nobody is buying new fridges and the mountain of unsold plasma televisions is growing by the day.

However, in desperation, Panasonic has hit on the perfect counter-attack against the consumer slump: it has ordered every member of staff to go out and buy £1,000 of Panasonic products.

Large swathes of corporate Japan are expected to follow suit, either by directly commanding or indirectly “pressuring” employees to divert part of their salaries towards the goods that their employers produce.

It will not be long before this abusive practice of 'sharecropping' hits Western and European nations and people will be forced to buy and not to save their money, to keep the companies they are working for afloat.

If you are a sharecropper and you work for the landowner, imagine the landowner forcing you to buy his tools, use his store, sell the food you grow to sell to his preferred sellers if you want to use his land, on top of already giving him a portion of the food you grow since it is his land.

All of this did not happen too long ago in America, and it will happen again.

And if you dont how would they ever know, things like this are just plain stupid any employee who follows this order is just plain stupid. I wish i worked for panasonic just so i could complain, at least it would kill the evening. Nice find.

That wouldn't work in a lot of country's... I suppose you could ask the employees to limit the amount of stock they take home with them at the end of the week, but to spend money on the stuff they screw together all day if I saw that memo I'd be looking long and hard for a new employer, even a slight drop in wages, that is a sure sign they are looking to cut jobs.

Rofl, not only do you know how shoddy the goods are, now your forced to buy said shoddy goods (although Japanese electronics are quality in general).

How can any company expect this to help in anything more than a short run. How long would it take before employees have two of each item the company makes, yet still asked to buy?

I would be moaning at this if I worked for them and was asked to do similar, afterall my family comes before my bosses bonus, they should be looking to lay off management (since they are over paid, are over bloated and never really any use beyond looking down on everyone) then cut back on overheads, energy saving bulbs, switch off unused machinery, green energy sources for the plant (solar, wind, bio fuel generators and so on), Would save them more in the longrun.

This same thing was done many years ago in the mills and mines of many a town in England too.

You had the boss who owned everything, the workers lived in rented accomodation owned by the boss...bought the food and tools from the boss and were usually in debt to the boss too.. so they all worked to keep the boss happy.... litterly..

In my mind, this is the turning point of the exposure of the modern slave system we are currently living in. This must surely make a lot of others wake up to the fact that tis corporate society is such a scam and a swindle and it is ourselves that are paying the ultimate price.

I sincerely hope that this method stays in Panasonic-land. This is really insane - how employer can force employee to buy something???
I mean - if they fire someone for refusing to buy Panasonic products, isn't it reason enough for lawsuit? Or in contracts this is allowed?
Can't wait walking home loaded with aspirins,paracetamols and such because my workplace forces me to buy it.

this brings to mind the novel called The Jungle by Upton Sinclair written around the turn of the 20th century. It portrayed the desperate conditions suffered by the workers in the American meat packing plants where everything was owned by the company and everything they workers could buy ensured their wages went straight back to the companies employing them. I guess what Panasonic is trying to do is a high tech version of those old meat packing plants

It's very realistic. All they need to do is demand that employees show the bills as proof.

Of course, economy is always about authority. Don't ever doubt that.

Oh, so to get paid, you need to show a receipt for a plasma screen?
That's ok ill make one on photo shop and print one out on my printer.

Indeed I believe that the world is not on a path to socialism- it is on a path to some sort of modified feudalism or serfdom where citizens get basic priviliges of everything (health care (?)/education and the like)

But... It is the Corporations and their owners, the richest families of the world, who control everything and decide everything under this system.

They will then control the judiciary system %100, rewriting laws to their favor.

Panasonic and whoever is pulling its strings is trying to practice the revival of Feudalism and not Socialism.

The Japanese employees I fell will be more subversive to the will of the corporations as they have been raised with a strong work ethic and of loyalty.

Everyone will be serfs and not citizens of the New World Order if the PTB have their way.

Isn't this illegal?
