Dr. Vakin on Obama - Alarming!

I found this very alarming.

It is on a few places on the web, I had someone email this to me today.
How come we did not hear anything about this before the election?

Dr. Vaknin has written extensively about narcissism.

Dr. Vaknin States "I must confess I was impressed by Sen.Barack Obama from the first time I saw him. At first I was excited to see a black candidate. He looked youthful, spoke well, appeared to be confident - a wholesome presidential package. I was put off soon, not just because of his shallowness but also because there was an air of haughtiness in his demeanor that was unsettling. His posture and his body language were louder than his empty words. Obama's speeches are unlike any political speech we have heard in American history. Never a politician in this land had such quasi "religious" impact on so many people. The fact that Obama is a total incognito with zero accomplishment, makes this inexplicable infatuation alarming. Obama is not an ordinary man. He is not a genius. In fact he is quite ignorant on most important subjects."

Barack Obama is a narcissist.

Dr. Sam Vaknin, the author of the Malignant Self Love believes "Barack Obama appears to be a narcissist." Vaknin is a world authority on narcissism. He understands narcissism and describes the inner mind of a narcissist like no other person. When he talks about narcissism everyone listens. Vaknin says that Obama's language, posture and demeanor, and the testimonies of his closest, dearest and nearest suggest that the Senator is either a narcissist or he may have narcissistic personality disorder (NPD). Narcissists project a grandiose but false image of themselves. Jim Jones, the charismatic leader of People's Temple, the man who led over 900 of his followers to cheerfully commit mass suicide and even murder their own children was also a narcissist. David Koresh, Charles Manson, Joseph Koni, Shoko Asahara, Stalin, Saddam, Mao,Kim Jong Ill and Adolph Hitler are a few examples of narcissists of our time. All these men had a tremendous influence over their fanciers. They created a personality cult around themselves and with their blazing speeches elevated their admirers, filled their hearts with enthusiasm and instilled in their minds a new zest for life. They gave them hope! They promised them the moon, but alas, invariably they brought them to their doom. When you are a victim of a cult of personality, you don't know it until it is too late. One determining factor in the development of NPD is childhood abuse.

"Obama's early life was decidedly chaotic and replete with traumatic and mentally bruising dislocations," says Vaknin. "Mixed-race marriages were even less common then. His parents went through a divorce when he was an infant (two years old). Obama saw his father only once again, before he died in a car accident. Then his mother re-married and Obama had to relocate to Indonesia , a foreign land with a radically foreign culture, to be raised by a step-father. At the age of ten, he was whisked off to live with his maternal (white)grandparents. He saw his mother only intermittently in the following few years and then she vanished from his life in 1979. She died of cancer in 1995".

One must never underestimate the manipulative genius of pathological narcissists. They project such an imposing personality that it overwhelms those around them. Charmed by the charisma of the narcissist, people become like clay in his hands. They cheerfully do his bidding and delight to be at his service. The narcissist shapes the world around himself and reduces others in his own inverted image. He creates a cult of personality. His admirers become his co-dependents. Narcissists have no interest in things that do not help them to reach their personal objective. They are focused on one thing alone and that is power. All other issues are meaningless to them and they do not want to waste their precious time on trivialities. Anything that does not help them is beneath them and do not deserve their attention.

If an issue raised in the Senate does not help Obama in one way or another, he has no interest in it. The "present" vote is a safe vote. No one can criticize him if things go wrong. Those issues are unworthy by their very nature because they are not about him. Obama's election as the first black president of the Harvard Law Review led to a contract and advance to write a book about race relations.

The University of Chicago Law School provided him a lot longer than expected and at the end it evolved into, guess what? His own autobiography! Instead of writing a scholarly paper focusing on race relations, for which he had been paid, Obama could not resist writing about his most sublime self. He entitled the book Dreams from My Father.

Not surprisingly, Adolph Hitler also wrote his own autobiography when he was still nobody. So did Stalin. For a narcissist no subject is as important as his own self. Why would he waste his precious time and genius writing about insignificant things when he can write about such an august being as himself? Narcissists are often callous and even ruthless. As the norm, they lack conscience. This is evident from Obama's lack of interest in his own brother who lives on only one dollar per month.

A man who lives in luxury, who takes a private jet to vacation in Hawaii, and who has raised nearly half a billion dollars for his campaign (something unprecedented in history) has no interest in the plight of his own brother. Why? Because, his brother cannot be used for his ascent to power.

A narcissist cares for no one but himself. This election is like no other in the history of America . The issues are insignificant compared to what is at stake. What can be more dangerous than having a man bereft of conscience, a serial liar, and one who cannot distinguish his fantasies from reality as the leader of the free world? I hate to sound alarmist, but one is a fool if one is not alarmed. Many politicians are narcissists. They pose no threat to others...They are simply self serving and selfish.

Obama evidences symptoms of pathological narcissism, which is different from the run-of-the-mill narcissism of a Richard Nixon or a Bill Clinton for example. To him reality and fantasy are intertwined. This is a mental health issue, not just a character flaw. Pathological narcissists are dangerous because they look normal and even intelligent. It is this disguise that makes them treacherous.

Today the Democrats have placed all their hopes in Obama. But this man could put an end to their party. The great majority of blacks have also decided to vote for Obama. Only a fool does not know that their support for him is racially driven. This is racism, pure and simple. The downside of this is that if Obama turns out to be the disaster I predict, he will cause widespread resentment among the whites.

The blacks are unlikely to give up their support of their man. Cultic mentality is pernicious and unrelenting. They will dig their heads deeper in the sand and blame Obama's detractors of racism. This will cause a backlash among the whites.

The white supremacists will take advantage of
the discontent and they will receive widespread support. I predict that in less than four years, racial tensions will increase to levels never seen since the turbulent 1960's.

Obama will set the clock back decades... America is the bastion of freedom. The peace of the world depends on the strength of America , and its weakness translates into the triumph of terrorism and victory of rogue nations.

It is no wonder that Ahmadinejad, Hugo Chavez, the Castrists, the Hezbollah, the Hamas, the lawyers of the Guantanamo terrorists and virtually all sworn enemies of America are so thrilled by the prospect of their man in the White House. America is on the verge of destruction. There is no insanity greater than electing a pathological narcissist as president.

Funny, I have actually been pondering myself over the possibility of future racial tensions, in this case.

Just have to wait and see, I guess.

Obama is a biracial man. He was not raised by black people so he more than likely formed his attitude through his grandparents.

I believe he had very few encounters with the average black family during childhood.

Interesting theory. The thing that has always scared me about Obama, which was pointed out, is the religion like following that he's garnered along with the loyalty that blacks have toward him. During the election, I told my wife often, "I don't understand why they just blindly follow him. Don't they know what this will do if he fails as president?" I hope to the highest heaven that racial tensions don't rise, as well. I guess, as the previous commenter said, we'll just have to wait and see.

The man does give some good insights in his analyses, but he seems to be in chronic contradiction to his views and this increases with years...

I agree.

I really don't get the racial thing anymore. I don't get why it matters.

They and he made such a big deal about the first black president thing.

It's like a brick wall was put up or something. I don't think he has the experience to be president at this time in our country. He has never run a buisness and I can tell he is not a genius by a long shot.

I already seen that. Did I miss something?

He is a top respected Dr. in the specialty.
More importantly, Obama fits the bill.

He is arrogant and self loving. What's not to get?

The reason is alarming, is what this type can do in this position.
I mean come on, it's been 3 weeks and he is dumping our country and it's rights out the window.

He does not hold up to his word at all. Except for giving our money to campain promoses.

sooo the solution to this problem, should barak be a narcissist

1. substance over talk
2. ask Barak real questions on how to help yourself and other coutrymen, rather than make it look like HE is helping other countrymen
3. ignore his calls to action, unless he proposes an idea worth getting behind.

Dr Vakin is not a professional psychotherapist or counselor. His Doctorate is in Phliosphy! the only thing that makes him an "expert" in Narcism is that he is a narcisst himself; but does not mean he can diagnosis anyone expecially from afar. If you read his resume he has never held a clinical therapist position. Not only that but he has a certification from Brain Bench which is an internet testing and certification site. This is not a college like an online college just another web site that costs money. I could pay money and get a certifiction in Finace even though I have no background in it.
Obama is not perfect and I really do not agree with some of his current efforts but I do not see him as haughty. I doubt he is a narcisst but I can not diagnosis him either since I have no training in diagnosising! I knew someone who was a therapist and it is not as simple as looking at symptoms and then diagnosising. This therapist sometimes changed her orginal diagnosis because she had missed something before and this is someone who was a licensed Psychotherapist with a PHD.
JUst because someone claims to be an expert does not mean he or she is. With Sam Vakin he was a self proclaimed expert and had others believing that he was as well. I am still a member of a web site he is on and I think he has ruined it because he is too arrogant.

The respect and demand are different things. The man is in demand due his scientificaly-popular analysis.
Though I would give him credit on good insights in economical issues! Those are worth checking!

I am a professional and I would like to learn the name of that "psychologist" who consulted him in prison (he did the term for money laundering) and declared him a narcissist which brought a new "specialist" in the person of Mr, Vaknin in the field!

This is poplular "science" articles\books based on mainstream and acceptable stereotypes, knowledge...! So, dont get alarmed!

Besides, mind (and check the date of the article) that pro-israel candidate was not obama... so this report of mr. shmuel vakin< the citizen of israle and employed currently by israel was another "bomb" in the fight for the voices!

Besides, I am not here to defend him. If you would actually read what he is saying, most of it fits.

The only real danger here is what happens when the adoration of the people starts to wane in the wake of poor performance. When that happens, it's likely that he will start to lash out and become a very different person (my opinion). That whole thing with the reporter who pushed for an answer to a question that he didn't want to answer really made an impact on me. That's when I realized there was something very wrong...

That's more of what I am talking about.

I got a little upset, when he acted like it was a joke that
the Reps. wanted tax cuts and trim the pork out of the
piece of crap bill they passed.

He just had a real arrogance about it.

I wonder just how many of us would see some of ourselves in that description. The video in the above post's link was interesting and not as lengthy. I saw Obama when I was homeless in Chicago and someone next to me had mentioned about him running for president. That was in the summer of 2002. I don't recall much of anything Obama had said as much as I was annoyed with Rev. Wright's sermon I had to sit through to eat lunch. Looking back, it wasn't a free lunch and was worth the time as a moment in history. I don't recall having been drawn to Obama or what he said, mostly because I just don't remember.

I wonder what the profile would have been of John McCain?

Republican, Democrat, Independent OR even Ron Paul, it will take a miracle to turn this country and world around. Obama doesn't seem like a Messiah to me yet.

He said he was going to create more jobs and I think he already has with the stronger security he needs just to go out to eat.

I am familiar with his work. So I will refute him using his own work.

People who suffer from npd, do not have the ability to empathize, or understand what others are feeling or thinking. The whole world only pertains to them, their needs, their abilities. They only see the world on what it can do to them. They will sell their children or mothers out if it gives them an advantage. I know, I deal with them constantly. They are the types to walk past hungry children because they need to buy new designer shoes to look good.

Obama has already shown a great ability to empathize with others.So this totally debunks npd.

Here is a slight example: there is a famous pic of Obama where he is watching the election results come in and his MIL comes up and rests a hand on his shoulder, and someone snapped a picture. Someoen asked him what he was thinking in that picture in that interview, and he said, I was wondering what she was thinking about all this. he was instantly looking at another POV, someoen who has npd wouldn't even be able to make that answer up.

People with npd are alone and unpopular. They are the ones that you meet and you just feel like something isn't right, and you just want to get away from them.Using the Drs. own words.

So how is it then that the most charismatic man in the world has npd?

Though it is politics that generally attract npd types, because the power gives them an inflated ego. So that may be where he is coming from.

But Obama has said least of anybody on his image, the dr. is only going on what the public says of him.
