Actually northern Indiana has been a hotspot for 'ufo' activity this past year, covered by the History and Discovery channels.

But whatever, I'd hate to see you guys have to put on longs sleeves and a jacket.

(feelings hurt yet again) Rush

They aren't coming up my way either Rush...I guess I can count New England safe for another year.

One big thing to do out in the desert is to be far removed from any city lights at night and stargaze. The likelihood of seeing some flying anomaly is the highest then and there.

The clear night skies are the most redeeming thing about Texas, in my experience. Even if just for seeing the thousands of stars, not expecting to see anything unusual. There's nothing like those stretches along I20 when the light pollution from the cities fades. Except maybe in the Rockies, of course. Where I'm living now has some of the most obscured night skies in the country.

Yup...though I think Los Angeles has you beat by just a bit...it's a 'clear' night when we can see the moon...

Though there are some spots...the Pacheco Pass area has some really gorgeous night skies...

Those are truly some of the most wonderful and moving sights during such trips.

The Navajo country night sky in Monument valley is a sight to behold.

Yay!

Re: Montauk – William One Sac did that, with photos. But that's no reason not to do it again, as long as you stop off in Queens to buy me Greek pastries and take me along

Seriously, I am so excited for you guys - you're going to have such a blast.

10 days might be pushing it, though. It took me 9 days to drive from Portland to New York with just a couple of side trips; you're going to be flooded with side trip possibilities.

Guys this sounds incredible. I am excited and jealous! When you come back from the Four Corners, an amazing place with its ancient history, you could go up to Hopi and visit some of the Hopi Elders. Remember they do not like their pictures taken though.

Going through Arizona you may think it worthwhile to visit Sedona and all the energy vortexes.

www.sedona.net...

The beauty of Sedona is worth the visit if nothing else.

Oh thanks KL.

I mentioned Sedona in the OP and Skyfloating also concurred that it's a must visit.

So I think we're definitely going to do that.

I really appreciate the local map. I was having a hard time pinpointing the exact locations of the votexes. (I though it was spelled vortices but apparently not in Sedona.
)

Cheers!

if you guys are going to be in the San Luis Valley vicinity mid-March-ish - you should check out the spring Sandhill Crane migration

www.fws.gov...

it's not spooky or nothin' :-)

just a geeky bird watcher thing - but if you're going to be there anyway - I can promise you - totally worth it

also - the Sand Dunes - a little spookier - and also totally worth it

Oh man, that looks very interesting.

And it's precisely when we're going to be there.

Monte Vista Crane festival sounds like just the kind of thing we wouldn't want to miss.

SD - I should also mention - if you guys want to find a place to stay in the area - may be more difficult - because of the festival

I made that mistake one year

might be good to investigate now - unless you guys are camping

thinking "that eye is one of the most disturbing things I've seen here at ATS"

:-)

glad I thought about it - you could have been SOL finding a place to sleep

Ahh the good old fashioned American road trip.

If only I wasn't a married man now.....

You ladies have fun now. Getting together with some real life ATS friends is a great thing.

I've got a couple of guys I'm hoping to get together with this summer if all goes well.

Absolutely not.

You haven't seen that picture of S-Dog in his Steeler's thong? Or that lovely portrayal of MS as a beautiful unicorn?
