I don't know, I think the comparison is somewhat accurate in a foreshadowing way. There is strong indication that this country may be facing a civil
uprising once again over the actions of a too powerful central government.
If you look at all the states that are proposing and passing resolutions to protect both the state and the people from the federal government. If you
look at the people that are annoyed to outraged over the waste of money on the bailouts that have so far only resulted in more people out of work. And
consider the people out of work and soon to be out of their homes...
No one in power has the guts to say it, but we are indeed in a depression. The majority of the population has less survival skills than an indoor
declawed cat and it would not take much to push them into panic mode.
The irony of the Lincoln comparison is that if Lincoln had not been assassinated the South may not have had the rough penalties of the Reconstruction
and that the freed slaves would have rounded up and deported. The likelihood of Obama being President would have been just about zero.
