Democrats Delay Bill Release to Conceal Details

Democratic staffers released the final version of the stimulus bill at about 11 p.m. last night after delaying the release for hours to put it into a format which people cannot “search” on their home computers.

Three of the four .pdf files had no text embedded, just images of the text, which did not permit text searches of the bill. That move to conceal the bill’s provisions had not been remedied this morning at the time of publication of this article. (You can find the entire bill on the House Appropriations [appropriations.house.gov...] website.)

The total number of pages = 1071

I am SO PO'D about it!!!!!!1

I have been on the phone with my govt. officals - ONE FOR 20 MINUTES!

They PROMISED a 48 hour on net, so people can look at it,,,,,

THEY BROKE THAT PROMISE!!

I have emailed Pelosi, Obama and have been on the phone!

I have let them know what I think of them!!

I also said, I was a Democrat - and I told Obama - he is NO BETTER THAN BUSH!! by allowing THE BROKEN PROMISE!!

Also, know one knows what is in it, it has over 1000 pages.

They are going to try and RAM ROD it through the Senate today too, I understand from my Congressman (R)

CALL YOUR GOVT OFFICALS ----------------NOW!

NO VOTE - LIVE UP TO PROMISE!!!

THIS IS NOT RIGHT!!!

You should try to use the real search function not the "find" function.

I think you will find that Ctrl+Shift+F works just fine on the pdf's. It looks like they used an older version of adobe to generate this pdf.

I searched it just fine. This "humanevents" site doesn't seem to care about whether they report the truth or not. This is the second story I've seen from them today that's just not true.

Well, I know this is off topic, but I believe it needs to be said. Instead of marching off to Washington, do it in the quiet way if you really want to hurt them. As I said before, Gandhi had the right idea. Don`t let the blood flow by doing what they want you to do, that is their way of making you a slave. Do it in a way that will throw them way off guard and have no real way of doing anything about it. And if you have to tell them anything, tell them we are all going to refuse to pay our taxes until they decide to pull their collective heads out of their backsides, and do what is right to fix this problem. How do they fix it? As long as the Fed is in power, we will never have our country back in the peoples control. Get rid of them, end of story.

If you can search a pdf of scanned pages (ie pictures of pages), please post results.

And if you can read and retain 1071 pages of legal government documents in 12 hours you may want to run for office.

You quoted me on something I did not say, but yes I agree with you that this was extremely short notice and a blatant violation of our promised "transparency"

But the PDF's are indeed serchable with adobe reader. In fact, any "image of text" is able to be searched by reader it contains algorithms to detect text in images.

Yes, I was watching Cspan as well. Charles Rangel's argument for a yes vote was "Do you want to be known for voting no?"
That equates to high school mentality "You're not cool if you don't do it".
Trillions of dollars and the future of the country/world at stake and he says "Don't you want to be part of the IN crowd?"

The bill is not in pictures of pages. It's a real pdf file.

I went to the link given in the story:
appropriations.house.gov...

And clicked on the pdf files:
appropriations.house.gov...
appropriations.house.gov...

And did a regular search (with the binoculars) and I did post the results. See the picture in my last post.

Pelosi is in a hurry to renew her latest Botox treatment.

This rush to push this bill through without scrutiny is one of the biggest travesties of justice in my memory. All those who supported this rapid push will pay the price in 2010.

Obama and company are wasting no time in destroying this nation.

There is a huge sense of urgency to pass this bill.

The reason is Nancy Pelosis vacation/trip to Europe.

The US has to bend to the will of the speaker.

Don't think about this.

The fact that the "law" of a bill has to be out for THREE DAYS before it is voted on, which a Rep (R) brought up..
The guy - in place of Pelosi - said "Oh Well" Pelosi is taking that OUT right now!! NOT IN AFFECT FOR THIS BILL!!!


I begged my Rep on the phone - for him to GET UP and SAY - constituants are calling DEMANDING THE 48 HOURS - EVERY Congress person voted for!!!

When that was brought up on the floor - the controlling person - said "NOT ENFORCABLE!""

A .pdf can be searched. I don't think that is the problem that a lot of people have with this.

All of this seems to be happening behind closed doors thanks to one group of power hungry politicians. And, we were promised hope, change, and transparency. We aren't getting it.

We are getting politics as usual with things getting shoved down our throats that we don't want.

Where did you get that? I have searched the bill and the only place it found "golf" was here, saying these funds are NOT to be used for golf carts.

Aren't you guys searching this for yourself or are you just believing what you're told? :shk:
