You ever notice how simular the arguments made by racists are to some of the ones within this thread?

You know, I happen to be a great fan of eroges (hentai games, erotic games, Visual Novels, dating sims, whatever you want to call them). They're beautiful games with beautiful and heart-warming stories - and a very small part of the games usually revolve around the sex acts and porn itself... Quite frankly, these are some of the games that I play the most, and, again, I love them. (And they all come from Japan, by the way).

But Rapelay? That's just a sick game, plain and simple. The same goes with lolicon and shotacon (cartoonish kiddie porn). (The worst part being I actually know the terms for it, curse my eyes).

The thing about many eroges is, they can't accurately be described as "porn games" because, again, the porn is a very small part of the otherwise very intriguing and heart-warming story.

And then there are regular porn games, which, hey, I've got no problems with perverts who enjoy porn. They have a very thin and pathetic excuse for a story, and they focus on porn.

And then there are games where you rape women. And men. Like Rapelay for example. And that's when I'm starting to get bothered, especially what with the increasingly blurry line between game and reality these days. Not cool. Not cool at all. And besides, if you actually get turned on by that kind of stuff, well, then it's a large probability that there's something wrong in your head.

Hope I didn't offend anyone by saying that, I'm just voicing my humble opinion here.

Edit: After reading through some of the wiser opinions on this thread, (which affected my own opinion as above-stated), I like to add a few things.

In no way do I support banning any game, even if it's Rapelay. And while I find that the game shocks my very soul and makes me feel sick as hell... As long as those dudes who play it doesn't harm anyone, then it's none of my god-damn business what they do on their free time.

And to the women seeking sympathy for female rape victims to bully people who have a different opinion than you about Rapelay, let me say this; when it comes to violence or discrimination, it doesn't matter if you're a woman or a man, black, white, Asian or Latino.

And as long as a game doesn't harm anyone, it's none of your business either.

I'm a massive anime and manga fan, never been into the erotic parts of it but to each their own. If you spend enough time around anime though you do learn about all of the other erm things that exist.

I actually made a thread about that stuff. It's in my thread history somewhere if you want to take a look. I would value your input, even if the thread is very old.

You will have offended someone, because they are easy to offend. What i will say is that many real life couples enjoy that whole fake rape thing. I don't really understand it but hey they're perfectly nice people i'm sure so maybe it's a bit silly claiming there is something wrong in their head. After all some extreme christians think anything outside the missionary position is perverted and even that should only be done for procreation.

This is the best part of your post for me. You say, as many have you are disgusted by the game but you realise it is just that, a game and therefore protected under free speech.

I understand the free speech and expression thing but some things (even fictional fetish things like rape and others I will not mention) just should not be made in this kind of extent. But what do you expect from the Japs? They like the "two girls and a cup" type crap, lol. It seems like humans abuse the free speech and expression sometimes, not taking into account moral standards.

It's interesting that you say that about the Japs when we in the West have far more act-on-their-impulses cases of reported pedophiles than they have in Japan. That must mean they're doing SOMETHING right, wouldn't you agree?

I find that compassion, empathy and a flexible mind are all worth more than morals. And unless you're the perfect human being (and somebody has yet to prove to me that a human can be perfect), moral tends to get a wee bit twisted and turned from time to time...and morals are all good and well until they get twisted.

I understand you like the Japanese culture, there is nothing wrong with it, I think you misinterepted what I wrote, maybe I should have been clearer, if so then I am sorry. Yes there are a lot of these "taboo fetish" people everywhere, not just in the Asian area. All I was saying is it seems like they push it a little more mainstream then we do-thus my free speech and moral comment. Morality in this sense meaning that just because you can say and make something legally, is it morally right to do so? Regardless of people not being idiots and brainless enough to actually go out and try to do what they see in a game for real. I mean I have played Mortal Kombat and Gran Theft Auto but have I gone out and beat down someone and rip their heart out? Have I gone out in my city and carjacked someone and shot a police officer in the face because I "saw it on a game"? That was not the point of my statement I made earlier that you and another poster kind of jumped on me preemptivly about. My point is simply this: Because you can, SHOULD YOU? When is something a little too much? This is all in my very humble opinion however.

There is an odd clash of ideas in this paragraph. Firstly the idea that there are moral standards. This isn't true, someone may think that my attitude towards sex (that being sex outside of marriage is fine) is completely immoral. Yes some morals are pretty universal in our western societies, however when it comes to video games it's rather spread out. Some people want all games banned, others only want the worst violent games banned.

The second clash is the idea of the abuse of free speech. Well abusing it would be a part of free speech In fact not taking into account moral standards is in itself free speech! The deal has always been that as long as you do not harm anyone you can say and do as you please.

Just be careful about putting limits on free speech.

If I was misleading in my wording I am sorry, all I was saying is that IMO some things should not be made, even if they can. LOL, I had typed a longer response but accidentally lost it so this will have to do. Especially when a rpg has the point of the game to rape people! I know a lot of games are very violent, but that is only a by product of the story line which is not sadistic in nature. So again this is only IMHO.

Ok jkrog08, it seems to me that we misunderstood what you were saying. I don't think i jumped on you but i apologise if it seemed that way.

Ok so i see what you're saying the old argument of "if you can, should you" is out. My simple reply is that if they want to, and it doesn't hurt anyone then they can and should be allowed to. Even though i disagree with people drawing this stuff i must support their right to do so because i am rabid in my support of free speech. They are not hurting anyone, there is no evidence to suggest that this stuff causes people to abuse and some evidence to suggest it may stop them from viewing real pictures of chlidren.

So as it harms no one i must support it, otherwise i am betraying free speech and when it comes down to it, out of all the ideals i can hold, free speech is one of the most important. When societies lose free speech they spiral down towards dictatorships, communism and other less attractive systems of government.
