They are practicing a controlled free fall, not flying. Big difference.

They demonstrate this in one of the Tomb Raider movies with Angelina (ooo yeah) Jolie.

This 'technology' has been around for quite a few years now.

They don't show much of the action, but this guy does it with rockets on his feet...

\

dictionary definition-
* moving or able to move through the air with wings
* done while hurling oneself through the air
* moving rapidly, esp. through the air
* used in names of animals that can glide by using winglike membranes or other structures

you could consider what they were wearing to be "wing like, or other"
sounds like flying to ME...

on another note, I wonder how much distance they cover and how long they flew, or control free fell.... any one have a clue??

To the OP, Notice how they are constantly DESCENDING. Their suits help them to "coast", but they are still falling. It's kind of like in toy story where he says "falling with style"

Flying along.......

Just like an Eagle.......

Gliding at horrific speeds.........

Without any protection......

Count me out......

But the thread is Great OP, thanks for letting the rest of us see this wonderful new sport.

Please shut up with the petty nitpickings.

Just like a flying squirrel, they're gliding.

You could still call it flying, they're just not propelling themselves.

It's falling with style. Wingsuits have been around since the thirties, glad you could catch up.

wow...this video has left me feeling anxious. My stomach feels so uneasy.

I am afraid of heights and speed and this video has done it for me!

It's like those dreams in where you fly in, very interesting but scary.

I just have to say WOW! powerful video to make my heart beat fast.

Guys i don't know if i'm sick or it's just because it early in the morning and i just woke up but this video had me laughing me a&$ off! I reminded me of homer simpson the way the guy screamed as he hit crap on the way down.

Thank You for make my day whoever posted that. I know it should'nt be but it's funny and i feel horrible for saying that.

This is unpowered flight (ie gliding). Does a hang glider not fly? It does. Same launch method here, but they don't have the surface area to thermal like a hang glider or sail plane.

Flying suits have been around since the 1930s and usually have a glide ratio of 2.5:1.

Not nit-picking, just trying to clarify.

There is an art, it says, or rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss.

Not very practical. Just a rich boy's novelty toy is all that is. I dont think it makes much sense to jump out of an airplane that is flying just to go flying.

Cheers!!!!
