Giant horse to tower over UK countryside

LONDON, England (CNN) -- A sculpture of a giant white horse taller than the Statue of Liberty is set to tower over the countryside as part of an unusual scheme to help revive the fortunes of a depressed region of England.
The 50-meter high horse will dominate the landscape around Ebbsfleet.

The 50-meter equine artwork was Tuesday announced as the winner of a competition to design a landmark to dominate the skyline of the Ebbsfleet Valley, set to be a new stop on the Eurostar London-to-Paris rail link.

..lawlsies... the white horse of the apocalypse is upon you.
run for the hills.

no doubt the funding and approval for this passed through the desks of individuals with much bureaucratic sway and understanding of the deep ramifications the icon of this sort will bring.. in public discussion . .if not on a subliminal level.

MESSAGE?!!

Well, it looks a lot better than the angel of the north, anyway.

It reminds me of the chalk horses in Wiltshire.

I had to laugh at this, in my area in Scotland they erected a speaking tower on the motorway to keep drivers alert in the morning.

The result was multiple car crashes when people were trying to listen to the message.

This is a fine example of stupidity.

I bet the idea came from a government sponsored think tank or a university experiment on the effect of pale horses next to electricity pylons.

Um, dude, the "pale horse" on the Royal Coat of Arms is actually a Unicorn, the symbol of Scotland (see how the poor creature is chained into the United Kingdom !)

Bit pedantic, I know.

I'd be more worried about what could climb OUT of it!

The Greeks are making a comeback.

Good one.

Prevenge, on the topic of Trojan condoms it is unusual to market a condom based on something coming out. Erm........ is a condom not meant to keep something in!!??

Maybe thats why we have so many kids.

Ive probably crossed the line there, im off to bed , ive lost my seriousness now

Man I just bought the book by William Cooper of the same title just yesterday...

No connection, just found the timing coincidental

well.. seeing how many on this board are familiar with the book's title.. I thought it would make an ironic thread title.

and weren't trojan condoms originally made of lamb's intestines?

watch the big white horse be a "gift" from a "wealthy" Soudi cave-lurker.

surprise!!!

(a hidden exit door on the arse end would be the icing on the cake.)

al quaeda dropping one by one out of the horses behind.. ...

classic.

A little bit of social commentary.....

Given that we're in financial meltdown, the economy is in freefall and people from all over the UK are feeling the effects of the ongoing credit crunch, wasting £2million on a 50m high horse seems just a little bit wrong, somehow....

Yep, that'll do it.

Seriously, who writes this garbage? Was the reporter reading from a PR script or did he just make it up? Either way it's rather lame and vomit inducing.
