"Come Sail Away"
Styx
Written by dennis deyoung
Lead vocals by dennis deyoung
Im sailing away, set an open course for the virgin sea
Ive got to be free, free to face the life thats ahead of me
On board, Im the captain, so climb aboard
Well search for tomorrow on every shore
And Ill try, oh lord, Ill try to carry on
I look to the sea, reflections in the waves spark my memory
Some happy, some sad
I think of childhood friends and the dreams we had
We live happily forever, so the story goes
But somehow we missed out on that pot of gold
But well try best that we can to carry on
A gathering of angels appeared above my head
They sang to me this song of hope, and this is what they said
They said come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me
Come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me
I thought that they were angels, but to my surprise
We climbed aboard their starship and headed for the skies
Singing come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me
Come sail away, come sail away
Come sail away with me
With so many musicians attuned to this concept, is there a shared consciousness on some level? Or is it simply an attempted to cash in on a popular
idea?
Since it's already been suggested that some aliens are drawn to music as suggested by Robbie Williams, ( or an annoying static wireless connection)
Many songs may have been inspired by these visitors through their abductees. I wonder if any abductees have reported hearing any music when they were
abducted.
I recall having heard a song by Karen Carpenter which is: "The Recognized Anthem Of World Contact Day" Calling Occupants Of Interplanetary Craft

when my son was about two years old, not even really talking yet (he talked very late...well past three, and then of course in full sentences), one
evening he made a huge ruckus in his crib. i rushed in and he was pointing at the wall, saying "aliens! aliens!" i thought that was really weird and
knew for a fact he had never heard talk of aliens or alien eyes. when he was about five or almost five, i remembered this and asked him about it...if
he remembered something happening with aliens when he was little. he said without hestitation, "yes aliens watched me...i saw their eyes" i said are
you sure it wasn't mommy or daddy's eyes through the crib railings? he said, "no they were on the wall side and they were aliens. they came almost
every night." i asked him what aliens were, and he said people from another planet. and that was all he would say.

Her weird obcession with her weight may suggest to some she used to be one of those thin Greys. She sang at my middle school when I was a kid also.
Musicians are such a mixed bag of personalities, Brian May of Queen just went back to school to get his PHD in Astrophysics and has unique opinions
about aliens, space, contact, etc.
It has been suggested that since musicians have an open line of communications to the public, they are often "used", but I sometimes question as to
who is doing the using.
Karen, was a very sweet and wonderful person, she always felt that she was not doing enough, and on a personal note, I miss her She heard the
track "Calling Occupants" by Klaatu, liked it and asked to record it. I could have added her tune, "On Top of the World" to the above list,
maybe.
If Karen is one of these people or immortals, than I don't think she is as gone as we think she is. Of course her music also immortalizes her as
well. Many musicians from that time period seem to have had a certain quality to them. Maybe I'm just being sentimental for "some" of my childhood
youth and energy.
They are in their own way; Gods and Goddesses. The sad thing is that they were likely 'only human' and may have suffered more than we realized to
please their fans.
I think many songs had some type of mystical and heavenly suggestion.
Stairway to Heaven?
I wasn't familar with the movie and the name used was Carpenter. Really weird coincidence there.

Why that is an impressive list, Eagan...there are far more artists who have never produced a work with anything to do with aliens or the like.
Besides, I don't think this is some sort of evidence of contact (as someone previously suggested) or the Conspiracy trying to leak information.
Aliens are a popular subject and a ubiqitous part of our culture. It stands to reason that from time-to-time, artists are going to produce works
involving them.
I think this was more of an attempt to bring awareness to the fact that these messages are out there. As NephraTari put it,”OMG I have been
listening to that song for years and I never realized what he was implying. I guess reading the lyrics makes a big difference.”
I wasn’t seeking a conclusion and the list isn’t that impressive, I can put together one many times longer that suggest that parents just don’t
understand or why you are not good for your girlfriend, etc. It’s just something that DJs do, or did back in the day when hippie versions of Luke
Skywalker and David Cassidy ruled the music industry.
I think I said, “With so many musicians attuned to this concept, is there a shared consciousness on some level? Or is it simply an attempted to cash
in on a popular idea?” which calls for the reader to think for themselves. But thank you for pointing that out, Captain Obvious.
No offense taken 'cause I understand completely.
I was more of a hard rockin' kinda guy myself than I was a metal head because I listened more to the technique and melodic styles of overdriven
hummbuckers versus the chainsaw sounding power chords, but it's all good.
I would prefer stuff like van halen and dokken over iron maiden and judas priest but that's just me.
The guys on this video were actually more hard driving than the song might portray them. They were a trio and there is something to said about bands
that can fill the air with plenty of music, with the fewest members and still keep it going like Triumph and especially Rush. Each member has to be
able to carry their own.
Regarding the Neil Diamond vid, I'm sure that's way too mellow for ya, maybe me too but just going with the theme of the thead.

I. Overture
And the meek shall inherit the earth.
II. Temples of Syrinx
... `The massive grey walls of the Temples rise from the heart of every
Federation city. I have always been awed by them, to think that every single
facet of every life is regulated and directed from within! Our books, our
music, our work and play are all looked after by the benevolent wisdom of the
priests...`
We`ve taken care of everything
The words you hear the songs you sing
The pictures that give pleasure to you eyes.
It`s one for all and all for one
We work together common sons
Never need to wonder how or why.
We are the Priests, of the Temples of Syrinx
Our great computers fill the hallowed halls.
We are the Priests, of the Temples of Syrinx
All the gifts of life are held within our walls.
Look around this world we made
Equality our stock in trade
Come and join the Brotherhood of Man
Oh what a nice contented world
Let the banners be unfurled
Hold the Red Star proudly high in hand.
We are the Priests, of the Temples of Syrinx
Our great computers fill the hallowed halls.
We are the Priests, of the Temples of Syrinx
All the gifts of life are held within our walls.
III. Discovery
... `Behind my beloved waterfall, in the little room that was hidden beneath
the cave, I found it. I brushed away the dust of the years, and picked it up,
holding it reverently in my hands. I had no idea what it might be, but it was
beautiful` ...
... `I learned to lay my fingers across the wires, and to turn the keys to make
them sound differently. As I struck the wires with my other hand, I produced
my first harmonious sounds, and soon my own music! How different it could be
from the music of the Temples! I can`t wait to tell the priests about it! ...`
What can this strange device be?
When I touch it, it gives forth a sound
It`s got wires that vibrate and give music
What can this thing be that I found?
See how it sings like a sad heart
And joyously screams out its pain
Sounds that build high like a mountain
Or notes that fall gently like rain.
I can`t wait to share this new wonder
The people will all see its light
Let them all make their own music
The Priests praise my name on this night.
IV. Presentation
... `In the sudden silence as I finished playing, I looked up to a circle of
grim, expressionless faces. Father Brown rose to his feet, and his somnolent
voice echoed throughout the silent Temple Hall.` ...
... `Instead of the grateful joy that I expected, they were words of quiet
rejection! Instead of praise, sullen dismissal. I watched in shock and horror
as Father Brown ground my precious instrument to splinters beneath his feet...`
I know it`s most unusual
To come before you so
But I`ve found an ancient miracle
I thought that you should know
Listen to my music
And hear what it can do
There`s something here as strong as life
I know that it will reach you.
Yes, we know it`s nothing new
It`s just a waste of time
We have no need for ancient ways
The world is doing fine
Another toy will help destroy
The elder race of man
Forget about your silly whim
It doesn`t fit the plan.
I can`t believe you`re saying
These things just can`t be true
Our world could use this beauty
Just think what we might do.
Listen to my music
And hear what it can do
There`s something here as strong as life
I know that it will reach you.
Don`t annoy us further
We have our work to do.
Just think about the average
What use have they for you?
Another toy will help destroy
The elder race of man
Forget about your silly whim
It doesn`t fit the plan.
V. Oracle: The Dream
... `I guess it was a dream, but even now it all seems so vivid to me. Clearly
yet I see the beckoning hand of the oracle as he stood at the summit of the
staircase` ...
... `I see still the incredible beauty of the sculptured cities and the pure
spirit of man revealed in the lives and works of this world. I was overwhelmed
by both wonder and understanding as I saw a completely different way to life, a
way that had been crushed by the Federation long ago. I saw now how
meaningless life had become with the loss of all these things ...`
I wandered home though the silent streets
And fell into a fitfull sleep
Escape to realms beyond the night
Dream can`t you show me the light?
I stand atop a spiral stair
An oracle confronts me there
He leads me on light years away
Through astral nights, galactic days
I see the works of gifted hands
That grace this strange and wondrous land
I see the hand of man arise
With hungry mind and open eyes
They left the planet long ago
The elder race still learn and grow
Their power grows with purpose strong
To claim the home where they belong
Oh, to tear the Temples down...
Oh, to change..
VI. Soliloquy
... `I have not left this cave for days now, it has become my last refuge in my
total despair. I have only the music of the waterfall to comfort me now. I
can no longer live under the control of the Federation, but there is no other
place to go. My last hope is that with my death I may pass into the world of
my dream, and know peace at last.`
The sleep is still in my eyes
The dream is still in my head
I heave a sigh and sadly smile
And lie a while in bed
I wish that it might come to pass
Not fade like all my dreams
Just think of what my life might be
In a world like I have seen
I don`t think I can carry on
Carry on this cold and empty life
Oh...noo.
My spirits are low in the depths of despair
My lifeblood spills over..
