Need Help Opening an MKV File!

I downloaded a video using a torrent and the file type is MKV. Anyone know what programs can open this type of file or convert it?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advanced.

You need the Matroska codec. Not sure what video player you are using, but I used to use Videolan. I believe it had a built-in Matroska codec, but it can also be had separately for other players.

This is a great player I use VLC Media player and it's free,
And it plays the format your looking for Matroska (MKV)
