China has to much trade with the US to start or get into a war with us. To many Chinese generals and politicos are getting to rich on the trade to even think about a war. It ain't gonna happen. Well, if Wallmart stopped selling anything made in China maybe.

Alrighty.

I just want to say to most who participated, great job. This has been one eye-popping arguement. I can certainly say I've learned a lot.

I think this thread should be closed, it's arguments have been said and people are either too passionate or too stupid to read the facts and shift their arguments apropriately.

First of all. I don't think there is a reason to attack or assume an attack from China.
Secondly, they are a poor nation.

1. Can the U.S. invade China in the first place?
Possibly. I don't see reason for it. It 'could' be effective.

2. Are America's technological and firepower advantages helpful in the long run against 1 billion people?
Yes. Starved people who have little or no will to fight are no match for a highly trained and well equipt army. We have the best fighting force in the world, hands down.

3. How effective would U.S. airpower be?
Very. China isn't known for its technology. Long range bombs would go a long ways.

4. Is it safe to say every Chinese citizen would fight?
No. There are several non-combatants. Old, women, young children, and people who have no will to fight.

5. Can the U.S. hold up against a modern military supported by guerrilla warfare?
Uh, their army would be underfunded. There would be a lot of casualties, but I'm confident in our armies abilities.

6. Any other thoughts?
-Don't think it will happen. There needs to be reason for war.
-That would be another World war. Remember the Axes and Allies during WW1&2? China is a lot bigger than Iraq, and hasn't done anything wrong. There would be several countries on both sides.
-There aren't a lot of countries with long range attacking ability. The US happens to be one. Yay!
-The Bible mentions something about a big army in revalations, a lot of people think it's China for some reason. *shrug*

you havnt read the thread i suggest u look back and read it they arnt a poor nation FACT

1. Can the U.S. invade China in the first place?

they wouldnt be able to hold a beach cause of all the local informants
2. Are America's technological and firepower advantages helpful in the long run against 1 billion people?
Yes. Starved people who have little or no will to fight are no match for a highly trained and well equipt army. We have the best fighting force in the world, hands down.
really? and what force would this be the marines? the army?the navy?the airforce?
look you hanvt got the best force in the world and nethier does britain except for marines but thats another matter
im trying to say is this you have firpower thats great but u dont have the best trained nethier do we or the best equiped nethier do we

3. How effective would U.S. airpower be?
Very. China isn't known for its technology. Long range bombs would go a long ways. yes but so do interceptors and you need targets for the bombs and things to shoot them take any one of these away and the plan doesnt work

4. Is it safe to say every Chinese citizen would fight?
No. There are several non-combatants. Old, women, young children, and people who have no will to fight.

im afriad your wrong take third world country's (and i wont say anything about somolia) they used women children and old people to fight in wars and if you were fighting for your child you would fight to the death
5. Can the U.S. hold up against a modern military supported by guerrilla warfare?
Uh, their army would be underfunded. There would be a lot of casualties, but I'm confident in our armies abilities.
who says they need to be well funded ? uv seen how much dammage a couple of suicide bombers can do and they werent well funded.

Agreed.
Most of the Americans (well Westerners) posting on this thread have seen films like Saving Private Ryan too many times.
All I can say is sh*t dont work like that in the real world.

Good job all.
I enjoyed this arguement.

Sure, some let their passions and "patriotism" get in the way, but I still thought I learned a lot.

Most importantly, this showed how little me and my fellow Americans really know about the outside world. I feel a bit ashamed.

I totally agree, its become a crappy tit for tat thread and not the good line of thought that was first displayed, I liked checking this thread until it turned into a cat fight.

I was ashamed because I realized how little I knew about the outside world. But yes, I did learn, but that was not what I was talking about.

On one note- America is extremely Xenophobic.
Not so much as a permenent hatred or dislike towards any particular race, it just has this flavor of the month think. Germans, Russians, France, China, Africa, and middle-eastern nation .. we've all heard it one time or another- 'Freedom Fries' and so forth.

But, basically- you think the U.S. would win because of it's allies?

Russia would stay the hell away, or side with China. Why? Prior technological deals and that the country is so close. Why would they defy the U.S.? Because if the U.S. actually attempts to occupy China (Which it couldn't, the U.S. isn't even in control of Iraq, what makes you think it could even pinch China's landmass?) the Russians would feel a great deal of Security loss, as would any other hostile nation such as N. Korea. (Who would also, without a doubt, supply aid and effort in the war.) Moreso? This would plunge the two koreas together, with them forming into one communist rule due to S. Kora being utterly surrounded by nuclear-capable and extremely large modern/sub-modern military forces.

Now, dropping aside that China has the largest nuclear-artillery supply in the world, and that if it came to nukes it means one country was about dead so they'd screw every other country. (Why didn't Russians do this? And why does it seem more likely now that China may do that in a duel-t-the-death war?) You're so worried that they're military forces are aging? This is plain ignorance, just as though you are saying the Russians have a decrepid military force that's years old. You're just an idiot.

Chinese military, specifically it's armour, happens to be making leaps and bounds for a country, that only one-hundred years ago or so (I have -no- Idea about asian military history, I'm just going off my Japanese IV class back in Highschool) was still using horses and black gunpowder, if not tempered steel blades.

Aircraft-wise? Yes, they are weaker than the U.S., but they also have a VERY developed Anti-Aircraft system, and a laser-based defense system better than ours. (No, of course you haven't heard of this much. Much like I doubt you've heard the U.S. recently sent out several modified humvees with lasers for taking out missles in Iraq. Yep, they work folks.)

Sea-wise? We couldn't touch them. We'd have the hell blown out of our ships if they tried to deploy. Perhaps artillery from cruisers .. but, they could jsut fire back with their own brands. Same with subs, we're pretty much equal.

Land-wise? U.S. soldiers are the most poorly trained modern-defense system in the world for Urban-style fighting. Yes, China is mostly fields, but each. And every. City. is Huge. You've got several million people in a city vs. a U.S. force of perhaps ten or hundred thousand. Yeah..

And as they've gone away from the rural and feudal-style wooden houses, save for farming developments, we can no longer firebomb their area to dust.

Mass-casualties by MOABs? Recall the anti-aircraft statement? Well, though I do agree we could take out huge amounts of people with single sets of bombs, recall how many they can send right back in? Also, China is a pretty rocky area- most of the blast would be refracted back up into the atmosphere instead of spreading out like a general bomb. (This does not go for Diasy Cutters and other FABs, as their gaseous state can 'infect' anywhere, any crevise, on the battlefield)

On a final note, while an embargo would work- you must have not studied WWII history very well. The Germans were hungry from a broken nation, taunted, and extremely restricted, so they lashed out and their moral sky-rocketed. Just because you take away something as small as food, doesn't mean you break the spirit of the people. In fact, this would actually aid their political and economic stations- bartering with other countries for major sources of food.

The U.S. isn't a required country-- (I live in it, so don't bother considerign I'm just being pessimistic towards the place for some reason) -- it just has a good foothold, due to WWII and the collapse of Russia.

So what would the end result be? China loses perhaps half, or three-quarters of its general army. U.S. forces or coalition loses all Land-forces sent in, perhaps a third or half of the aircrafts, and most naval forces never even come into play besides aircraft carriers and those poor, poor transportation crafts.

God it's fun to watch the Ruskies and Chinks believe so much in such horrible technology. China would be obliterated by the united states in a ballistics war. You have absolutely no chance to survive a massive bombardment. You just can't afford to fight back such a destructive force without being decimated out right. Pretty much anyone from China or Russia on these forums is pretty ignorant and brainwashed already... but it's ok as we of the aware part of earth understand why. They have been brutalised and lead down a socialist - communist path before... where we haven't. By the way... I am Iranian... and all you bad ass Russians... you got your ass kicked I think it was 3 times in Afganistan during your scorched earth operations and I believe one of the puppet leaders Russia imposed was hanged from a poll with his testicles in his mouth. Well god damn... if you're not losing your touch I dunno what's happening. China and Russia aren't as fond of each other as each knows. Russia has around 1000 nukes pointing at China. India is the future and they are a democracy and much more powerful then China will ever be or Russia ever was. I'm sorry... your time in life is far over and if either of your countries come back it will be in a different era under a different name in a different setting... get over it you communist and ex communists. You are stupid and the intelligent part of earth hates you

nethier wins in war, theres no winners only losers
take ww1 how many dead ? 8,538,315 men . in total not including the wounded
imagine the figures now a days the war wouldnt last long cause the US public would go nuts
also china would be decimated as well think of the loss of population ? even if you win overall theres gona be a lot of dead and wounded
also US navy versus china navy?
262 surface ships versus 50?
also i have to admit chinas sub fleet is very credible only 5 nuclear subs but about 52 deisels and 3 kilos!
us sub navy is impressive to 51 attack boats alone and 18 ssbns very nice as well
but both countries have pros and cons these are a few i say it would come to a stailmate do u not think
with china having the worlds largest airforce ?

well, how can u talk to someone who believes u are brainwashed and stupid? can u count how many people come from China in Europe and other countries in the world(including India)? if Chinese government really decide to wash those people's brain in democracy countries can u imagine the way they do it? magic??
there is a wrong thinking i need to point out, China is the only country in the world that has two political form, democracy is now running well in Hongkong, Macow and Taiwan. check it out before u argu this fact.
