What got cut from the stimulus bill

www.cnn.com

A coalition of Democrats and some Republicans reached a compromise that trimmed billions in spending from an earlier version of the Senate economic stimulus bill.

CNN obtained, from a Democratic leadership aide, a list of some programs that have been cut, either entirely or partially:

Partially cut:

• $3.5 billion for energy-efficient federal buildings (original bill $7 billion)

• $75 million from Smithsonian (original bill $150 million)

• $200 million from Environmental Protection Agency Superfund (original bill $800 million)

• $100 million from National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (original bill $427 million)

• $100 million from law enforcement wireless (original bill $200 million)

• $300 million from federal fleet of hybrid vehicles (original bill $600 million)

• $100 million from FBI construction (original bill $400 million)

I can't believe some of the things that were cut. The senate calls it cutting the fat. Getting rid of things that don't need to be there at all.

Below are things that were cut completley -

• $100 million for Farm Service Agency modernization - Yeah what do the farmers agency need with up to date equipment, lets give the bankers money to buy chairs instead.

• $98 million for school nutrition - Whats more overweight Americans right?

• $10 million state and local law enforcement - Screw the police, we need to worry about the fat cats more no?

• $16 billion for school construction - Who really cares that school are falling apart across USA, as long as bankers get thier money.

These are just a few, I do agree with some of what was cut, but if they are going to go ahead with this sham of a bill the least they could have done was keep the parts that actually made sense.

this is all about undermining Obama and the democrats, republicans are going to be doing this with each and every bill of congress. republicans don't care about the poor or middle class, they only care about tax cuts for business and the wealthy. when is everybody going to start realizing this?? look at the years 1994 thru 2006 for congress when the GOP was in charge...hello?? just look back at what was passed in the congressional record.

I have more faith in a homeless person to come up with a stimulus plan then these bozo's.

It comes down to two things....money to the working class and small business. what....500B tops.

Did you see how fast Wallstreet got bailed out......Idiots.

I knew that some of the education-related services would be cut. But the nutrition has waited years already, it's not like we suddenly realized that we needed. New schools would be great, but costly, and could probably wait.

At least they didn't cut actual education programs and funding for schools, you know?

The most important thing for this stimulus package to accomplish is to put money BACK INTO the economy as soon as possible. The Republicans want to cut funding for the states, for example, but the states would use much of that money for medicaid, food stamps, and other aid programs. Poor people spend their money quickly because they need to, so these programs put that money into circulation again almost immediately. Ditto for funds for infrastructure, schools, etc.

Tax breaks for the rich are one of the least efficient ways to put money back into circulation, as much of that money is saved or invested elsewhere than the U.S. But the Republicans want tax breaks to be about 40% of the whole package and it looks like they may get much of what they want. They haven't had any new ideas since Ronald Reagan, and the last round of tax cuts didn't accomplish much, but hey, they're going to hold up the whole works if they don't get their way.

They have gone school building crazy around here. They will build one then in about 5 years they will build one to replace it.

The Farm Service Agency has been using outdated equipment for years.
