Hi, I want to host my own domain name.

Now I was told that as long I have a dns server and at least 2 static ip addresses.

I can run my own dns server.

I know abou ICANN. I just want to know if it's possible for me to host my own domain like www.mydomain.com

I was told I would still have to pay a .25 cent fee to the .com registrar.

I would like to know if any of you know about this.

I host several of my own domains.

You still have to pay full price to register the name, though.

I got a wholesale account from directnic and the domains are about $6/yr.

All you need is one static ip

You use the same one for dns1 and your domain.

Use one of the free services for dns2

You can use a program called ZoneEdit, which allows you to host domain names via you Dynamic IP. So that means you do not need a static IP address.

Also, I would not recommend becoming an ICANN registrar. Domain registrar's make very little from what they sell. Companies like GoDaddy, rely on selling services like Hosting, Email, VeriSign certificates to make money.
