If you saw military vehicles, then I would assume you have some military base or bases nearby. Troops could be moving from a post to a separate training area, and this isn't anything to worry about. They could also have been Reservists or National Guard, on training. I would bet if you got their attention and asked, you would get a logical and polite explanation.
