A Lebanese ship carrying aid for Gaza was stopped by the Israeli navy and is being escorted into port, Israeli Defence Minister Ehud Barak says.

Earlier, officials in Lebanon said Israeli gunboats had fired on the ship before soldiers boarded it, although Israel denied this.

Lebanese PM Fouad Siniora has called on the international community to persuade Israel to allow the shipment through.

The Togolese-registered Tali with nine passengers aboard had passed through the nearby Mediterranean island of Cyprus where authorities checked the cargo to ensure transparency before it headed for Gaza

When is enough going to be enough?
Why is it that Israel will still not allow aid to get through?

They will not let the aid go directly to Gaza and the aid ship is apparently being taken to the Israeli port of Ashdod.

I am sorry, but are the people of Gaza going to throw clothing and toys over the wall at Israel?
Is there something about the toys that cauld harm Israeli people.?

They're not allowing it because they want these people to die. They have been pushed down beneath the poverty line, people are sick and without medicine, food, clean water, money, employment and homes.

Israel has spent billions of dollars in destroying these Palestinians over the last 60 years so that Palestinians suffer and die, why would they want to help them or make anything easy for them?

Not surprising at all, the bandit state has always engaged in piracy. A well documented event is the USS Liberty attack. Predatory mentalities rely on ambush, snatching and keeping. That aid ship will most likely be emptied or the supplies vandalised with a bit of 'security searching'.

I knew you'd find a Gaza thread somehwere.
That's what I love about ATS. So many choices.

Cheers!!

Back to the topic.
They are just making sure that no weapons are stashed on board. Any medical supplies will be quickly sent into Gaza. I just hope that Hamas doesn't get their hands on the supplies. If so, the innocent Palestinians will never get the supplies without paying for them in some way or another.

The Israeli navy on Thursday intercepted a ship delivering 60 tons of supplies from Lebanon to the Gaza Strip. An investigation of the ship revealed it contained no hidden weapons and it has been docked in the port of Ashdod.

Israeli sources said that the aid the ship was carrying would be transferred to Gaza via land. The passengers, who attempted to dock in Gaza illegally, were transferred to security forces for questioning.

The hip breached the blockade the israeli army had to stop the ship and see it had no weapons which they did...

Finally a chink of common decency emerges from Israel. When Israel does the right thing, it should complimented as an encouragement.

Funny, i remember so many reports, that israel blocked even the most substantial things like food, gazoline and, yes, medical aid.

Ah, yes, and there was a report, too, that clearly stated, that Hamas was not controlling the humanitarian aid, one way or the other. (Though it is not true, that Hamas never controlled humanitarian aid)

Didn't the US news cover the stories about the many waiting hours for BREAD?? BEFORE the war started?

Sorry, my impression is, that you may have a biased opinion

(By the way, english is not my motherlanguage)

Your English is probably better than most native speakers are capable of attaining and a heck of a lot better than my German.

My bias? I am anti Hamas and any ship heading towards Gaza should be inspected. If the ships captain would just follow orders there would be no drama. The supplies are intended for civilians and if Hamas gets their grubs on them, those in need will never get the supplies.

Egypt is currently holding a Hamas official for trying to enter Gaza with $11 million in mixed currency (9 mill. in US and 2mill in Euro) in his luggage. I can only imagine what they will do with that sum of money. Humanitarian Aid? I think not.

Wave at it as they're let through. Russia is a country you simply don't mess with... "They'll kill you ten times before you hit the ground."

It is obvious that Israel is a bigger threat to Palestinians than the Palestinians are to Israel....

What I don't understand is why Israel has the right to check what is coming in for Palestinians. Yet the Palestinians aren't allowed to check what military or other aid is coming into Israel...?

There seems to be a double standard regarding everything in that country. And very few people take any notice of it.
