Most people agree moses wrote leviticus

god did not come down and physically write the bible

the bible was written by men for men, so when moses was giving the laws, it was no different that our constitution declaring laws

it is also no different than other countries who cut off and arm for theft and so on

the bible says obey the law of the country as long as it does not conflict with gods law

if god left it to moses to give the jews the law, and he was divinely inspired as the bible says its writers were, then his idea was correct in that those things should warrant death in there culture

that does not apply to today, the old testament is strictly for the jews, and laws change

So then what do you believe - are you a christian?

I believe many things.- but whether or not someone is a christian should not be important if your intentions are to logically discuss your original hypothesis. To place emphasis on someones' history or beliefs in an attempt to suggest bias in my opinions, is a blatant informal fallacy.

Okay nothing personal against you here, but I really have to correct this statement.

War is not a science and science has nothing to do with war.

SCIENCE is a PROCESS that is used to explain the natural world with means to the natural world ONLY. A process by which we use observation, form hypotheses, test, collect data, have peer reviews and form conclusions.

Science can be used by people with certain agendas to gain control or kill other populations but science is not a war. I think that is what you are getting it confused with.

Sorry, it just bothered me. I am majoring in biology and it irks me when I hear ignorance among people about what science actually is.

Interesting, I guess if you have both organs, that is a biological defect that God never intended, there is some leeway that must be extended in this case. Wait until puberty to see which side is stronger, and run with that.
God would still expect you to follow the same standards, that is pick a team
(male or female) and stick with it, and you could still follow his standards.

No switching back and forth.

I swear I have never been so pissed off and mad about someones ignorant stupidity! Who in the hell do you think you are hurting someone like that! How do you know you are not the defect? You think God has a gender? How could that be...if you think God is a man then you have just put down women the mothers of our race. SO would God not be both? Or genderless like our souls?

Dont you go around and tell people things like that. You hurt that person just now very deeply. You judged and committed the worst sin imaginable. You think someone that is both male and female has not wondered if they are meant to be? Words cannot express how mad I am. How do you not know that a person that is both sexes is not closer to the divine than you?

HOW DO YOU LOOK YOURSELF IN THE MIRROR AFTER WOUNDING SOMEONE LIKE YOU JUST DID?

This was the most callous unfeeling inhuman statement I have ever heard anyone make in my life!

Deleted comments by personal request, scriptures stay however.

Revelation 21:4 (Amplified Bible)

4God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and death shall be no more, neither shall there be anguish (sorrow and mourning) nor grief nor pain any more, for the old conditions and the former order of things have passed away.

Matthew 4:23 (The Message)

He also healed people of their diseases and of the bad effects of their bad lives. Word got around the entire Roman province of Syria. People brought anybody with an ailment, whether mental, emotional, or physical. Jesus healed them, one and all.

I thank you for your words.. But it was I who decided to be open and honest in this thread. And it works to expose the close minded parameters some humans have on this Earth.

One that shows love and understanding for all. Thats all I ever hope religion to ever be.. Is all about love and understand for ALL!

I am me, and I am free. I know there is nothing wrong with me. I have come to terms, and I have some really great friends not only on this website but in life who understand me.

I will not be taking any more questions here.. I don't want to try to derail or off track this thread..

Thanks for your time everyone!
And thank you for taking down those personal assults on me Blue Jay. I can respect everything else you said in terms of bible quotes.. Thats all good. Love. Thats all love and understanding is all I ask from anyone. No matter what you belive. Or what you feel is or is not.
I think we can all learn alot about ourselfs and eachother. No matter what we belive is to be true.. We can still have that level of respect and caring for others, that we may not understand..
Peace!

SORRY

I never read all the comments, I was responding to just that 1 quote you made in one post, and my comments were careless, I never thought about how brutally cold and heartless they were to someone in your situation. When it was brought to my attention by other forum members, I deleted all those comments, but I can't delete other quoted posts. My comments were never meant as an attack on you.

God does work in mysterious way eh friend? I respect a person that will make a statement like you just did.

Our path is long and weary and we all forget sometimes to walk in another's shoes, even if they dont fit it can expand the mind and soul to see what its like to be in them!

A star for you.

I and billions of other people have masses of personal evidence to know that God is a reality.

And what is that evidence?

You or none believers base your views on nothing, no experiences of any kind relating to there being a God. So you think that it's all hogwash.

That's not true at all. I base my views as most atheists do on actual evidence. Just becuase i've had no god experience doesn't mean i'm a non-believer because of that. The experiences the religious have, are been found to be nothing but delusions - mostly schizophrenia.

There are buddists seeing Buddha, Christians seeing Christ and many other people of faith claiming they have felt their god in some way. Obviously if different religions claim to experience their deity in some form then that's simply because they were brought up with that belief system so they're going to experience an illusion if they believe in it enough whether it's real or not.

If you bring up a child and teach them that Santa is real as you would that god is real without them ever finding Santa's not, they're most certainly going to have delusions of Santa and feel some spiritual connection with him.

It's not that becuase i haven't experienced what Christians have that i'm a non-believer, it's because i know what Christians are experiencing can't be god becuase other religions claim to experience the same sort of thing from their own deity. If you understand that, then you realize if they're all having these experiences then how can you tell which faith is experiencing the real thing - and so you realize they're all worng becuase it's impossible to determine even if one religion is right, which one it is.

Don't you ever think to yourself, how can i be so sure when i, as a none believer am in the minority, or in the 17% of the worlds population that don't believe in God in any way, shape or form.

If 99.999999 percent of the world believed something without any evidence - that's simply not going to convince and shoudn't convince me or you or anyone else that's it's true just because everyone just thinks so.

Do you seriously think that just because so many people believe it's true it must be true? - that is not rational thinking.

If two people are stood outside a door and hear no noises or ever see anyone come out of that door the chances are that you will say that the room is empty and the longer you stand there, the more that belief will be enforced. (this is where i see you at the moment.)
Now if one of these people knocks on the door and it is opened then that persons belief will be instantly changed. (thats me)
The thing is, you have to knock on the door to get an answer,

You know what, there a like a million doors to knock - Judaism, Hinduism, Islam etc and every single one has the same basic offer so it's not like Chritianity has something unique.

This is the main reason you will never change a believers view on God because he has knocked and the door has been opened for them. You will never convince them otherwise.

You're saying beleivers will never change what they are, that's not true at all. Most atheists i know and some of the most influencial atheists in the world were once god beleivers.

Now, is the bible true or not?
I or no-one else knows the complete answer to that one

I do. The bible claims god wrote it, i proved that can't be the case becuase there's plenty of human alteration for personal benefit. If god is all powerful then he wouldn't let alterarion happen if it's 'god's book.'

I now know as a christian that God is real

And why do you think god is real?

No matter what situation i am in, there is allways an answer in the bible that gives me encouragement and this is one way that i believe God communicates with me.

Now when i read it and find no anwers that means god's message doesn't reach everyone. But if we're talking about god - you'd think god's word would have such wisdom and morality that no one would be able to deny it, but obviously there are those who can so it's no god's word.

If a Muslim reads the quran and feels gods word through that, how is that any differet then what you're saying?

For those of you believe that the Bible is the infallible word of God.
By
Lucifer

I have a graduate degree in Theology and Religious Studies; my second subject was History. I also have a post-graduate degree in education. I do not teach in schools but I am a qualified school teacher and I am quite familiar with the process of marking student’s essays.

If the Bible is the word of the actual Creator, I would expect to give Her an A+ for historical methodology and
moral philosophy in the same way that I would give Her an A+ in Physics, Chemistry, mathematics, astronomy and other sciences.

Since we are considering the Bible to have been written by God, it would be unfair to judge her by the standard of a High School student, but rather by the standard of a PhD student.

I would have to fail Her on historical methodology; I would not even mark the paper.

On moral philosophy with regards to the justifications for rape, genocide, infanticide, human and animal sacrifice cultism, cannibalism etc., not only would I have to fail her and return the paper unmarked, in addition I would consider Her to be criminally insane and the definition of ‘evil.’ I would also consider it to be the case that anyone who believed that this was the ‘word of God’ was also criminally insane, and a morally (i.e., the discernment of good and evil) worthless individual of the ilk of Pinochet, George Bush, Hitler etc.

The following 101 contradictions have been circulating the Internet for years; they are not of my authorship.

Love and regards

You dont need evidence to know God is real andre. You dont need religion to know God is real either.

I have had a lifetime of experiences that have brought me very close to death. Something pulls me out every time. I have had years of synchronistic most amazing things happen. I have been led on a journey that I should write a book about. I have felt the love of God in my heart when all was lost.

You are young and have not had the proper experience in life to understand God yet or you would not be confusing God with religion and asking these questions. You may be on a very young souls path and not come to know God for many lifetimes. Most people of science have young souls yet sharp minds. Many of the elite are the same way, it is why they can do such inhumane acts. Without Gods love some become a bit cold and only relate to the meat computer and the five senses. We are all of one and of a different vibrational state. We come to these vessels these meat suits to experience the physical, because in our soul state we vibrate at a higher frequency and like a radio wave that passes threw walls, our souls cannot manipulate the physical as we understand it.

It is all very complex and I know its hard to understand.

I could go on and on but only your own personal journey will reveal God to you. I wish you luck wherever this path of yours leads.

The following 101 contradictions have been circulating the Internet for years; they are not of my authorship.

the bible claims to be inspired by god, not dictated by. do you have any other contradictions besides inconsequential numbers or names? perhaps doctrinal?

andre assumes that the way he thinks is truth.

No, no and no. I don't assume anything, i know what i believe is the truth -i don't assume it, i know it. So you may ask how do i know?

Science is the foundation of truth, it's the only way we can find out what is real and what isn't. We have evidence through the scientific method that proves how the universe works. We know that it is a fact as is gravity and evolution. Now because the big bang is a fact, we can rule out god because we know the big bang negates the theory/idea of a god from existing. And because of this i know that i have a closer realization to the truth then you or any other creationist out there will ever have.

he is going to bash and bash and bash the bible until someone sees what is obviously truth to him.

But when someone sees that truth that i see then obviously they are going about it the right way becaus they're using the same logic and evidance to come to that conclusion. How do you find out the truth - seek out a 2000 year old book written by men claiming to be the word of god even though it has contradictions and human motivated alterations - how is that truth in any form???

what is he scared that some christian in office is going to take away his abortion rights?.

Damn straight and do you see that it's religion that causes that fear? It's your book that tells people what to believe and because of that they take everythig (like abortion) that doesn't agree with the book as against god's will. If their was no religion there'd be no christians blowing up abortion clinics, it's your belief that causes this.

what he fails to realize, is that christians are scared of the same. they are scared that some atheistic senate will impede on religious freedoms.

What kind of freedoms?

because they believe in something he doesnt therefore they shouldnt be in positions of power

They shouldn't be in a position of power because as i've explained when you have someone beleiving in a talking snake then they're not mentally fit to be a politician. They believe in god and because they do they wont to implement that god belief into the law system. We can already see this with in god we trust, swearing on the bible in court etc. This is a religious act that permits religion to be in places it shouldn't.

It's fine for you to have these religious beliefs in the justice system because you bleive in them but for those who don't, it's not a fair or balanced.

If we treated everyone who spoke about god on the floor of the senate as though they had just spoke about poseidon, cleary that would be the end of that persons political career and yet when we have that same person wanting to invade iraq because god told him to - that's ok?

andre,

i remember when the scientists first discovered evidence for the big bang. i was working at a pepsi factory at the time. the discovery had been printed in TIME magazine, which i found in the lunchroom at the pepsi factory. the opening paragraphs read something like.... (paraphrasing) after years of trying to unravel the secrets of the formation of the universe, scientists have finally arrived at the summit as a result of the discovery of the reality of the big bang. as they climbed atop the mountain that was their uphill effort, they were warmly greeted by theologians, already present, who simply smiled and asked, "What took you so long?"

translated that means that the big bang theory fits the biblical account of a sudden creation of the universe. but not all theologians are on that summit. some believe the universe is limitless and eternal and that it was never not here. that may just be a bit of semantics, however.

So then what do you believe - are you a christian?

I believe many things.

You didn't answer the question, simply saying i believe many things isn't an answer. If you're a Christian i'm posing this threads topic to you - if the bible is written by man and not god then it's not god's perfect word but man's own word. If god really wonted man to write a book on his behalf he wouldn't have any contradictions or mistakes in it. God would know to have man write it down perfectly dictated by him. And wouldn't let alterations happen if it's his book. - His final word on every matter.

The fact that Christians accept it was written by men who had visions and inspirations by god and yet still value that as gods peferct word makes no sense. Unless it was dictated by god completely it's not his complete word - it's mans and gods word. Unless it's gods word 100% it's not the true undeniable word of god.
