As for the north, what's your problem with London? The reason we have all the nice things that Britain has made is because of the great partnership between the industrial north and the academic south - you can't go dancing without legs and a head

Ok the snow itself is not a sitx but for some of the populas will be finding it tough.
But now is a good time to look at your planning and preparedness for cold snaps and weather.

Where I live, the council had not even bothered to grit the roads.
Watching people struggle to drive was a bit hairy at some points on my journey to work but I got there ok on foot.

Nowt wrong with London , just having some light relief, I'm British by an unwanted act of political union, English by the grace of god and a northerner by pure good fortune. Scotland!!!!!! well yes Scotland is Scotland which makes me even more proud to be English

What was it they said about about Scotland on that late night TV show a while back, Scotland is a perfect example of what happens when you mix Alcohol with Socialism

I know it sounds silly to some, but i think this is a great thread for this forum.

As colec says, it's what it can lead to that could effect us in a major way. It shows that whilst many here think of Sit X as a major disaster that could impact on the population as a whole, there are those out there that would view a weather blip like this as thier own personal Sit X.

You see thats where i think the "Sit X" classificaton list at the top of this forum falters slightly. You can have your own Sit X right there in your own home and the outcome could still be as harmfull as a major incident.

If the situation i am stuck in is a risk to my life, i would consider that "the S hitting TF"!

Take where i live, a small forest village. We have a railway station, today nothing was running due to the weather. Buses were limited too.

Cars were ok later today, but very risky this morning.

Most of the village relies on the local supermarket for it's food. If they don't get deliveries because the lorries can't get through, thats when it starts getting tricky.

Luckily these weather bouts don't usualy last that long here, but if it were to last even a week, i guaruntee some people would be running out of food.

Couple with that the amount of people who's heating is going up the shoot because of burst pipes and the likes, some people could find themselves in severe trouble.

We have tons of elderly here who unlike me, can't hike into the next town for food.

I must admit though, i find it amazing how many people go into a blind panic when a few of the luxuries in life are taken away from them. People are so pre-occupied with the latest gadget, they forget the basics to keep them alive if the need came.

Anyway, my kids were off school today so we were over the woods practising hunting each other with snowballs lol On the way back i stopped into the supermarket and loaded my bag up with food that would last me easily a week, even without my cupboard and stocked food. Plus more firelighting gear and water. Just that little extra security.

It's like the old saying, "Watch the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves". If you prepare for the smaller, more personal "Sit X", when the big one comes, hopefully we should weather it more comfortably. up:

The BBc news have just said that there is now an extreme weather warning out for the north of England for tonight, and the snowfalls could be as much as 30 cms in the next few hours.

I was quite pleased to be wearing my norgie when I left the house this morning. The guy in the office called me about 6:30am to see how I was getting on. He agreed with my assessment that everything was okay considering. The only problem was there were other people on the roads. He thought I was joking when I said I'd packed my sleeping bag. I'm pleased I didn't need it. In my early morning haste I had packed my BOB but completely neglected my coat, wallet, radio, extra water and extra food (didn't want to raid my BOB unless essential).

One afterthought I did remember was a good book. Boredom is almost as bad as hunger (well, not really but you get the point).

Slightly more seriously race and culture is a real issue in survivalism, and I dont just mean the racist ultra right wing rednecks who hate people because they have a better tan. I know of people from country A who have tried to settle in country B as survivalists and have been made in no uncertain terms very unwelcome. One is a survivalist author who had to basically sell up again and move to Yorkshire to get away from real threats of violence and intimidation from the residents of his host nation.
further my own Bro In law had his car wrecked because it had an England sticker on it while he was posted to another ppart of the UK.

Sadly for all of us some places that are geographically ideal for survivalists, home steaders, small holders and others, simply because you are from another nation you dare you settle in because the threat of violent racism is very real indeed.
