Obama has given the republicans, and now they're promptly hanging themselves with it. He offered bipartisanship, but he and his team knew damn well this would be the outcome. As a result, he's made the republicans look like bipartisan idiots and as if that wasn't enough, he's even made Limbaugh their defacto leader. LOL!

Now he's ready to make Judd Gregg the commerce secretary which would in turn give Obama a filibuster-proof senate.

He's closed Gitmo, reestablished our honor in terms of torture and even passed a law for equal pay for women.

All this within 2 weeks.

The haters hate because they simply fear the man. They can continue to use buzz-words like socialism, or pork-spending, but when the stimulus package ends up actually working, they're gonna have an even deeper grave to dig their rotting party out of.

I love it!

World Welcomes President Obama's Executive Order to Close Guantanamo, Despite Concerns

Closing a major terrorist detention center...better know as Club Gitmo...without knowing where these terrrorist are going to be placed is totally irresponsible.

The same countries that are applauding this decision are NOT lining up to take these prisoners.

He's given them 1 year to figure out where to send the detainees. More than enough time.

What's totally irresponsible is torturing these people and in turn making it so you can't try them in a court of law. The fact is, Bush and his leniency on torture is more responsible for letting terror suspects walk scott-free than Obama will ever be for closing Gitmo.

You're right.
Star.
I feel like he is a great man with a lot of potential. As I said in another thread, I will keep my mind open and my hopes up until he does something wrong. And when I say wrong, I mean, invading Iraq quality wrong. And many Bush supporters continued to support the administration past the point where many said "Is this really in the best interest of our country?"

So far, I think Obama is only trying to make America better, and he's going a pretty spiffy job of it. Is it perfect? Nope. Is it a step in the right direction? Totally.

I have posted on this before, but here goes again.

According to all media reports there were 3, count 'em 3, people who were waterboarded. All of them senior al-Qaeda terrorists. This was not done at Gitmo, but in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Aside from the "is waterboarding torture" argument, what evidence do you have that anyone at Gitmo was mistreated? If you have any information then I would like to see it. Even the IRC had to admit that the detainees were being well treated.

As for the laws that prevent the Gitmo detainees from being tried in a civil court, one of them is the Geneva Convention. So, are we supposed to follow the GC or not?

Obama is the antichrist. Boo!
Obama is Santa Clause. Yaay!

Ten days and the world hasn't imploded! Huge suprise.

Come on.
Give it some time. It could go either way.

Um, not sure.
He is doing things and not sitting at a desk doing nothing. His ethics proposals, attempts at bipartisanship, and a step in the right direction with Gitmo are just a few of the things that he has done.

This thread was, if you read, intended to list and discuss what he has done since he has been in office, since many people seem to feel that he's ruining the world or sitting on his bum.

I think this thread has been successful so far.

What makes you think releasing Gitmo prisoners is a step in the right direction?
Yeah sure he is doing it to keep his promise and to pacify the pacifists, but it almost seems like he is having second thoughts about it.

He is realizing being Prez is not going to be a cakewalk as he had originally thought.

The accomplishments you mention, still way too early to tell if they will even work, so it's not such a good idea to pull out the "Mission Accomplished" banner just yet.

Well I do not agree with your statement about wanting to pacify the pacifists. Obama
is a man and therefore he may a have specific views that compel him to dislike GITMO.
I dislike it for the same reasons CONSERVATIVES dislike weapons bans. Safety from the government - There's no telling who might come along and use GITMO for reasons other than terrorist detention.

Truth is figuring out how to deal with the problems associated with closing GITMO will provide many stumbling point that could reinvigorate the GOP position, which is a positive for you cons.

I agree with your last point whole heartedly

Hell maybe

I decided it was good that so many people around the world have hope in Obama. That seems to be what is keeping our economy from crashing. The numbers don't look good. I'll let the people judge Obama after 4 years and see if they still feel the same way about him then as they do now.

On the bright side, he appears a lot smarter when talking than the former president. Appearances mean a lot when you're in public office.

On the down side, he's now providing federal money to provide controversial abortions which many do not support. He says he's not going to raise our taxes but he plans on raising the costs for many people's electricity providers by using a cap and trade system for carbon output. All of this based on the fallacy that the planet is warming up. Over 600 scientists have gone on record as stating the planet is currently cooling off not warming up. Apparently it's all about going green. Green as in green money to be made. Of course I don't believe the public will put up too much of a fight. They'll just complain about higher electric costs, higher energy costs, etc. and forget why our energy costs went up so much in the next few years.

I know I;m going to get alot of hate for this, but i gotta say this: Anyone elected to a position of power in the United States is a corrupt bastard, being played and puppeted by powers much higher. Obama is the perfect puppet, He is the first black president so people want to believe in his judgement more then usual, he will recieve alot more slack from the masses, coz anyone who second guesses his judgement is clearly a biggot. his timing is just too perfect, whatever mistakes he will be forced to make will in no way represent the black community however I can see alot of Klanners saying # like this, thats the whole reason he was allowed to be elected.

You are worried about spending your money for college? Get a job and work 40hrs a week and go to school full time, I did it for 3 years and graduated owing only 10,000. Should all college be free? No, go work for it.

OP I started a thread to attempt to place all of the fast paced changes into one area. So if you find proven changes he has made that could contribute to the thread please add them with your comments.

It is rather difficult to keep the maybes and the thinking about doings separate from what is being implemented and passed, so if you visit the thread you will see what I mean. Save it to favorites and come back as often as you can.

For better and worse, this is really a matter of perspective. Just ask Bush. Bush accomplished quite a bit, but that didn't make everyone happy. And so it will be for Obama.

For example, some may consider it a good thing that U.S. taxpayers will now fund abortions across the globe... others not so much.

Same for Gitmo. Not everyone is happy about closing Gitmo, especially since Obama has no plan for what to do with the prisoners. To me, it's symbolic at best. Gitmo is not the problem. If we physically move each and every prisoner to another geographic location, but run it the same way, we've accomplished nothing. So do we just let them go free and say "have a nice life?" Do we imprison them elsewhere? Do we bring them to US soil and create further threats to our national security? So far, just words. We have to wait and see what happens with this before coming to any conclusions. This could backfire on a grand scale.

As for bipartisanship? Not. Obama blew that perception out of the water when he told Jon Kyl, Senate minority whip, "I won" after asking for their input. That's not bipartisanship. Seems more like a little kid asking another kid if they want some candy, then saying "too bad, it's mine." Or telling the Republicans in Congress that they cannot listen to Rush and still work with his administration. That's not bipartisanship. Obama went thru the motions so the msm could broadcast it to the world - but it was all for show. Nothing more.

Obama declared "No lobbyists"... yeah, right. We know how far that went.

Ethics? Whose ethics? And starting when? There are still plenty of people from both the major parties who consider his campaign tactics in every election he's run totally unethical. Think divorce records... ACORN... Caucuses... Odinga... Birth certificates... Passports... Supreme Court cases...

Yup, perspective is a b*tch.

As for me, personally, as much as I'd like to believe the best about Obama, I'm too old and I've seen to much to believe the fairy tale. Obama is just one more corrupt politician. Wouldn't surprise me in the least if Obama goes down in history for one and only one accomplishment: Perpetuating the greatest hoax ever on the American people and usurping the presidency.

Exactly. I don't have that paperwork, you know that. But, if I find multiple sources saying the same thing, that's what I'm going to support until I see paperwork that says he -didn't- do any of the things that he said he did.

He's certainly doing a lot in a very short period of time in the White House. I wonder if it's going to decrease over time, or stay the same, or increase.

It frustrates when people make it sound like, oh, he hasn't been president for that long, he's just sitting around on his butt and biding his time. It is clear that he is attempting to make a number of changes. Personally, I don't see any of these changes as being horrible, and I tend to think that they are an improvement and maybe things we should try, even if it doesn't work out in the long run.

you do know that when a new president is elected to office, that in the first few days they ALWAYS sign executive orders? that is standard. and of course obama has to WORK RIGHT NOW, we are in a damn recession, if he doesnt, his numbers will drop like a crashing plane

I have been watching the news and it seems that they are over eager to announce each and every "first" that Obama executes.

I suggest that we buy a Baby Book and start recording all of Barack Obama's "firsts". I don't have anything against President Obama, but the sugary sweet coverage that he's getting is making my blood sugar spike.

We already have: Baby's First Missile Strike, Baby's First Executive Order, Baby's First Bill Signing, Baby's First Photo Op, Baby's First Political Attack, Baby's First Broken Promise, and Baby's First Grevious Political Mistake.

If you can think of more, please post them.

I understand exactly what you are referring to, the sugar coating and all.

I'm wondering if the media will be the ones that will "CHANGE" the baby when he makes his first poo-poo???

I had to give you a star for that one.

Yes, I also wonder how many friends will be around to clean up after President Obama if and when he makes a real stink. I am guessing that MSNBC will be the ones who will have to "change" him.

You guys are too much. Insinuating that Obama is a baby is not really the best way to win your argument, is it? Don't you think making fun of the President kind of discredits the points you're trying to get across?

I think a lot of you Obama haters are a lot like the Bush haters who have been fired up for the last 8 years. You flat out dislike the guy, not just his policies, and it shows in everything you say, how you say it, how you react to people who support him. At every turn you're handicapping yourself when you resort to mocking. Don't you know that? You're marginalizing yourselves every time you click "Post Reply"
