5th Gen fighters may be all the rage from Moscow to Washington and Canberra to Tehran. However it seems the MOD is staying firmly retro, and wishes to remain that way till 2019.

And this surprises you, why, jensy?

I made a thread ages ago call the 'uk bomber gap' (or similar) in which I said this was going to be the case, but I think some thought I was just scaremongering. The basic fact is the RAF cannot retire the Harrier until the F-35B is in service and this is still a very looooong way off. While ever the Harrieer is in service it will need to be looked after.

Also, the Harrier is not a fighter and performs a vital job. The USAF A-10 is hardly high tech, and deliberately so, and that is going nowhere either.
