Top 5 Best Songs Ever Written

Okay, there are a so many artists producing absolute garbage and have been since the beginning of popular music, I decided to ask: what are your top 5 best songs ever written? Of course this is debatable, so… LET’S DEBATE!

I am quite excited to read your replies.

Here are mine:

5. Fake Plastic Trees – Radiohead
4. Skin and Atmosphere – 36 Crazyfists
3. Comfortably Numb – Pink Floyd
2. Bohemian Rhapsody – Queen

----drum roll please----

1. Eleanor Rigby – The Beatles

I generally listen to much heavier music but I believe the artists and the songs above are fantastic and stand head and shoulders above all other songs I’ve heard!

4. One love - Bob Marley

3. While my Guitar gently weeps - Beatles

2. Paranoid Android - Radiohead

1. Imagine - John Lennon

I truly find it difficult to pick five so I will just list five that I think are great.

Shine On You Crazy Diamond - Pink Floyd

Those Thieving Birds Pt. 1/Strange Behaviour/Those Thieving Birds Pt. 2 - Silverchair

Strange Overtones - David Byrne and Brian Eno

Time Makes Two - Robert Cray

2112 Overture - Rush

No particular order here:

1. Hotel California (Eagles)
2. Red Barchetta (Rush)
3. Comfortably Numb (Pink Floyd)
4. Rocket Man (Elton John, Bernie Taupin)
5. Those Shoes (Eagles)

Scoreboard Eagles.......

Peace

John Lennon: Imagine

Lynyrd Skynyrd: FreeBird

Eagles: Hotel California

Led Zeppelin: Stairway To Heaven

Aerosmith: Dream On

There's so many more on my list that may even top these songs, but this is what I grew up with and love.

Silverchair’s Young Modern was an absolute masterpiece if you ask me. Kudos! That disc was an anomaly for me; I only bought it because I thought "If You Keep Losing Sleep" was brilliant. I had never heard anything like it. I think I paid 9 bucks for the CD in the bargain bin… Best 9 bucks I ever spent. Well if you don’t count that time I gave 9 dollars to my wife for her subscription to ‘Bird Talk’ the magazine, she was very grateful.

I can’t really find fault with any of those choices, heck, I can’t find fault with anyone else’s either! I’m sitting here thinking “darn, I can think of at least 5 more that top the 5 I picked." Ha, isn’t that funny?

I've been sitting here wondering what my top 5 songs would be....darn, it's impossible to choose!

So I thought I'd select one from different kinds of music...and I even found the vids (not the best way to hear these but hey....enjoy as much as I have over the years.....

From the Rocker in me: REO Speedwagon.."Roll With The Changes".

From the Hippy in me: Genesis.. "Afterglow"

From the Dancer in me: Underworld.."Cowgirl".

From the Romantic in me: Queen.. "You Take My Breath Away"

From the Guitarist I never was: Energy Orchard.. "Belfast"

5 tracks, all powerful in their own ways and all of them sent shivers down my spine the first time I heard them.

Cheers..nerb

Silverchair is a fluke for me too... I had written them off as a band I didn't care for years ago. Then one day I saw they had a new one, and I thought , oh why not check it out. I am very happy I did. Young Modern is amazing.

That Little Red Barchetta is a real cracker!

Nice one, I've been a Rush fan for years.

Sorry, I have to add a number 6 too .....

Antimatter: "Conspire". A real haunter.
