Is this like the question of Is it possible to get pregnant from a toilet seat? Answer: It depends on what you are doing on the toilet seat.

I am assuming you have never been to Cairo - Cairo is one of the most heavily poluted cities in the world and everybody seems to smoke - they smoke often and generally Marlboro or Camels. On New Year's eve it was almost impossible to see the front desk from the elevator - it was approximately 100 feet away.

Trust me I got it from the smoking. Or don't! Just stating the facts - I love travelling but Egypt is a no-go zone after that experience.

this is my last fight with you. I responded because you said i must have some sort of illness because i can't tolerate perfume. As far as your smokers lung, or so you say, there are many other things that will cause your lung problems. Especially travelling in a foreign country.

You never did answer me why I should be subjected to your perfume, while i should not be allowed to subject you to my cigarette smoke. Why? What is the difference?

BTW I don't smoke, I just hate people who want to impart there views on everyone else when they will not accept that there actions can also have neagtive effects on folks. Responsibility works both ways.

I didn't say that you didn't get it from smoking. I said it's not impossible to get it from somewhere else. You said it was. It's all besides the point anyway. There are a lot of non-smokers that only like to complain and whine about people that are not like them. To those people, smokers have tried to be accommodating, however...we give you people an inch and you try and take the whole damn mile.

I responded to all your "questions" - read my posts. That is one of the most common ploys on ATS. The "you don't answer my questions " one.

However I am glad you have done your job for smoking humanity. If smokers on this board can just take a few points away from this thread it would be this:

Be respectful to non-smokers
Be aware that smoking does affect the standard of living of others including children and pets
Don't think that second hand smoke doesn't harm others or at least inconvenience them

Recent research has shown that people from lower social classes , with lower education levels are more likely to smoke. I can understand it , it sucks living under constant stress. For your own sake and your family's stop smoking if you can.

I beg to disagree with you on your assertion. If they truly wanted to promote a non-smoking agenda, they would've left out the parts where she was puffing away on a cigarette despite choking and coughing.

I personally viewed the video as an exploitation of his Mother's illness and subsequent death. Wouldn't it make a great evidenciary exhibit in a lawsuit? I'll bet if you knew the truth, that's exactly what he did.

I found the videotaping of his mother's corpse to be in very bad taste as well. So much for their being dignity in death..

Its not an assertion, its stated right in the video, that she wants to discourage others from smoking... Why you think its an assertion is beyong me. Do you not realize that she developed lung cancer from smoking? That is why they showed her smoking, because they are trying to show what happens or rather what CAN happen if one smokes.

I fail to see how you thought her smoking on camera was added to the video for anything BUT an non-smoking agenda. With all due respect, and believe me there is alot due, just how closely did you watch the video? It seems you missed quite a bit.

As for filimg his mother after she died. You act as if no one has ever done that before. have you never been to a funeral? have you never seen someone take a picture of the body so they have something to remember them by? I have. Also as he said, in the video (repeatedly) he was filming her because he wanted to have video of her last days and he wanted something to remember her by. That is not at all unheard of and im surprised you havent known anyone to do that, although I respect your feelings about it.

Smoking kills, but so does overeating, alcohol consumption, caffeine abuse, or simply breathing the air around you which is full of toxins.

So true, unfortanatley thats irrelevant to the thread . The thread is about smoking and the pain it can cause smokers and their loved ones.

But yes you are right, all those other things kill, and if you look I would bet you will find similar videos discussing those things as well.

For what its worth, im not one of those people who throw a fit if someone in my general area is smoking, In my area they have banned smoking in bars of all places. Even I think thats a bit ridiculous. I mean a bar really? I thought smoke was expected there. but hey what do I know.

I respect your opinion very much buddy and I think I even have yo on my friends list

People get a nicotine high. A lot of smokers do. It's actually been proven that nicotine from smoking chemically makes people happy. Smoking isn't another "kettle of fish". Banning it wouldn't work.

You need to do some research instead of just shooting your mouth off with nothing to back up what you are saying.
People dont smoke to get high, maybe they get a little dizzy if they haven't had a cig in hours. But it is nothing remotely close to drinking alcohol to get drunk or smoking pot to get stoned.
I am not opposed to you having an opinion. But I am opposed to you having an uninformed opinion.
And honestly I don't think my tax dollars should go towards health care for fat people, or people who do extreme sports, or people who drink heavily.
As a matter of fact I don't think people who drink should have a drivers license.

And as a non-smoker you are obviously very qualified to comment on the many reasons why I CHOOSE to smoke and will continue until I see fit, obviously.

Give me a break. I would blow my smoke in all your faces, HOW DARE YOU TELL ME HOW TO LIVE MY LIVE, I sure as hell don't tell you how to live, if that's what you're calling it.

Pease , I'm out to smoke a cig, because I can.

People make lots of assertions but that does not always make them correct or true. I realize she died lung cancer, but I fail to see where providing her with more cigarettes during the video promotes not smoking.. People learn by example.

I fail to see how you thought her smoking on camera was added to the video for anything BUT an non-smoking agenda. With all due respect, and believe me there is alot due, just how closely did you watch the video? It seems you missed quite a bit.
I watched the entire thing, and though I empathize with his mother's plight, I don't sympathize with it. Smoking, like everything in our lives is a personal choice we make. Nobody forces you to put that coffin nail in your mouth and inhale it. I've lost two family members to cancer, but I still don't blame the tobacco companies for their death, and they didn't either. They simply encouraged the rest of us to stop before it was too late for us as well. I did so for almost three years, but relapsed. I didn't quit for myself but for someone else, that's why I eventually succumbed.

As for filimg his mother after she died. You act as if no one has ever done that before. have you never been to a funeral?
I've been too several lately, but I've yet to see anyone taking pictures of the deceased..
have you never seen someone take a picture of the body so they have something to remember them by? I have.
I fail to see why you or anyone else would want such a morbid reminder.. I prefer to remember them as they were, not how they looked after that spark that gives us all life has been extinguished.
Also as he said, in the video (repeatedly) he was filming her so he would have because he wanted to have video of her last days and he wanted something to remember her by. That is not at all unheard of and im surprised you havent known anyone to do that, although I respect your feelings about it.
I've only met one person in my entire life that has done so, and I consider her to be rather morbid. How can looking a dead person provide anyone comfort? She has an entire photo album filled with pictures of dead relatives and friends. She's also been asked to leave on several occasions by family members because of it. I've specifically uninvited her to my own funeral.

I have done my research and beyond that I know smokers. I'm a smoker. I never said people smoke to get high, I said that people GET a nicotine high. I said that it chemically makes you happy. Doing a little google search can't tell you what ACTUAL smokers feel when they smoke.

I smoke, it relieves stress and makes me feel good. No amount of phony research or twisted statistics can make that fact false. The same thing goes for a lot of my friends. One in particular found out she couldn't drink anymore and turned to smoking for a stress relief.

Get over yourself.
