Turn in anyone you suspect to possess illegal firearm?

What is wrong with this picture I am listening to the car radio and a public announcement comes on stating turn in anyone you suspect of possessing an illegal firearm. Not to mention you would recieve a reward for doing so.

Guess what folks if you do not like someone you can call in and say you think they have an illegal firearm this opens the door for law inforcement to check on anyone if someone suspects them of having firearms legal or not.

Can you say Nazi Germany and I see big problems with individual rights and search and seizure house to house. Is this a way to keep tabes on who ownes guns. Yes I know you must register newly purchased guns, pistols and rifles but how about individuals who have guns for years or collections that are not registered?

i really hope you can find audio backing this up! if its true it would start a firestorm here. ill start a "public announcment" stating, to turn in who ever is ratting out the people excersicing their constiutional rights... we'll see how the elite would like that

When I was in New Haven, CT a similar program was started. Thy set up a "I just saw a gun" hotline and everything.

The police told everyone that if they saw a gun to call. CT also has a law that says if anybody tells the cops they fee threatened by you the police can come and confiscate all of your firearms. So if your neighbor gets pissed you knocked on their door at 3:30AM to ask them to keep their music down because it's Tuesday and you have to be at work in 4 hours they can call the cops and say "I feel threatened by my neighbor and he has guns" and the cops will take everything you have "pending investigation" which in CT meand you'll never see those guns again.

I fully expected to have the cops come to my house because a neighbor saw me cleaning some guns after a Sunday at the range but nothing ever came of it.

It's a police state and nobody cares.

I think I'll start calling it from New Hampshire and just go down the phone book in alphabetical order claiming they all have guns.

NOPD was, and possiblty is running the same program in New orleans. it was quite some time ago as I remember it that I heard it on the local talk radio. wish i had recorded it at the time. personally this law-abiding citizen is prepared to become a felon to protect his firearm anonimity.

What State is this in, if you don't mind divulging?

Down here you see guns all the time, my boss has a Colt SAA hanging from a gunbelt on his chair.

I go to a 100-booth flea market and see at least 20 on display any given weekend.

This has to be in a Northern commie-socialist, "wish we were more like Europe" state.

If the good guys started shooting "gun criminals" in the face, eventually gun violence would work itself out?

Now that is bizarre as a "public announcement". It sounds to me like the "cable theft" announcements they make. Turn in your neighbor thing.

You are right - anyone can lie - I would like to know who is behind that announcement.

We all have a right to bear arms - and that right should NEVER be taken away!

How does anyone know - it is an "illegal" firearm? That is the question that should be asked, how many people would be affected that have a license for firearms? This announcement does not make sense, due to the no one knowing if they see a firearm, if that person has licensed it with the state for it.

And that's a big problem. The people who would find a program like this helpful are the gun-ignorant. The gun-ignorant look at my AR-15 and assume it's illegal. In fact, almost everyone in New Haven (even gun owners) are wholly convinced the dreaded black rifle is illegal in the state of CT despite every shop having a wall of them.

A policy like this lets the ignorant rule the rest of the population with force by proxy of police thuggary and policies that state the police can confiscate your arms without anything more than a person claiming they feel threatened. No warrant. No charges. No arrest. Just a person for whatever reason saying they dont trust you. Or not even that much. Just a cop saying somebody said they didnt trust you.

That's pretty disturbing. We know there are people out there that believe any gun is an illegal one. Feel free to interpret "out there" as you please.

Has the OP got any more information about this?

It just seems so wrong that someone could have their neighbors property searched on hearsay.

Yes, We the People aregoing to have to band together and fight this measure with all of our collective might, or else we will end up like the Brits, who have no guns to fight off home invasions and robbers. I had an incident like this happen to me. I was getting out of my car at the local Taco Bell to go inside. I have a CCW and stay inside the car while i chamber and secure my gun into its holster and pull my shirt down over it. As I got out, apparently part of the handle and holster was visible to this couple 2 cars over. I was unaware and proceeded inside standing straight up the shirt covered it and no worries. but bending over or getting out of the car I guess provides some view of my weapon. Anywho, I am sitting inside TB and I notice 4 OPD officers come inside with thier hands behind thier backs and looked around and settled on me and approached. They stayed a discreet distance and asked me to please stand up and turn around slowly. At which time I complied and told them I was armed and had a permit. We all know what happens after that. After 2 hours in a sweltering police cruiser and repeating myself numerous times. The re;lease me keep my weapon for ballistics testing and give me a reciept for it. Told me a detective would be in touch to tell me if I could pick up my weapon or if had any further questions. Also told me that the incidwent would be given to the state attorney for review. 3 months later I had to physically go down and spend 2 days trying to get all the paperwork to have my gun released from the crime lab and found out they had it put in a destroy bin. Luckily the clerk was able to retrieve it otherwise I would have been out of about 700$. But the moral of the story is kiddies, these hotlines are redundant, every state already has a "hotline" it's called 911.

Unfortunately many states have brandishing laws, where if you accidentally display your firearm and get reported, it's going to get seized exactly as you describe.

Here in Arizona, with open carry being legal, it's less of an issue, but a recent attempt to make it go away completely (with HB2629) passed the house and senate only to be vetoed by the anti-Christ in the form of governor Janet Napolitano, who fortunately has now been foisted on the country by her political bosom buddy Pres. Obama, so we finally get rid of the old witch.

Arizonans may finally get some more protection from unreasonable laws, at least for a while.

After that little incident I stopped carrying on my hip. A little more uncomforatble now. Although during the 3 month period i called the NRA instructor and he told me that it should have been a non-issue with the police ( He did'nt elaborate), and he believed it was just a way they could get into my car and search. Which they did.

I would certainly turn anyone in if they has an illegal firearm. I live in the oppressed UK. I live in fear of being invaded by the Chinese, Russians or (God forbid) the Cornish. I am in constant fear of the unarmed police.

Please don't talk for use British when the context is all wrong. The US have guns, the British don't. It is cultural. I hate guns, but I shoot - work that one out.

I understand you being defensive, but you have to understand that while many in the UK hold up the US as an example of what happens when a society has too many guns, we tend to hold up the UK as an example of what happens when you have an unarmed populace.

I doubt those 2 views will meet in the middle any time soon.

But what he said was factually accurate, residents of the UK are unable to fend off a violent attack with firearms, whether you would actually want to is a different matter.

I can imagine that as the economy goes even further into recession, people will gladly make much money going around befriending new people just to make a living as a snitch. (After they go through their own family, friends and neighbors.)

John Titor will be right if they try to take away our guns, it will be civil unrest.
