can someone PLEASE explain whats goin on in Islam right now

Im taking a social philosophy course and our professor expects us to know whats going on in Islam right now. I tried reading the paper, but I don't really understand it because I don't know the basis and foundation of this problem and how it arised.

Conspiracies aside... can anyone please explain to me what is going on in the East right now... apperently Obama supports it. How did it arise... what's our mission to accomplish?

I'm a new poster and love hearing what you guys have to say (been a reader for over a year)... and if anyone can help me out, it's more than greatly appreciated.

This is a very "stretchy" question. Islam is a religion and there are Islamic people everywhere in the world. The answer to your question could easily fill hundred pages.

Just ask yourself "What is going on in Christianity right now?"

Think anyone can answer that?

I would agree with the above post, but really you'll have a HELL of alot of reading if you really wanna know what is going on and the history behind it.

I think youll learn more by narrowing down your search get more specific. Are you trying to figure out something about islam have questions about beliefs? What are you needing to know your post does nothing to tell us.

If you want a feel for why Muslims do some of the things they do, what their teachings are, why their history is what it is, why there are tensions in the Middle East, and why the violence, then I would suggest you read another source about Islam.

There are a number, but one of the more readable and compelling sources is to Google "Prophet of Doom" by Craig Winn.

You'll quickly know more than you ever dreamed.

Its an impossible question to answer whats going on in the whole of Islam right now.Over a billion peoples religion is Islam.

You can attribute many of the terrorist organization in Islam today due to outside forces destroying their cultural, political, and territory areas.

This occurs by invading countries and killing the Islamic country's goverment power figures, trying to convert them into the invading country's type of goverment, and then kill off any groups resisting the invasion by making them the enemy. As what was done when the CIA helped put Saddam into power and kill off any of his political opponents.

The Taliban on the other hand is a special case. Russia attempted to invade and convert Afghanistan into a communist state, but the US hired, paid, trained, and armed groups to oppose Russia's invasion. These groups were originally known as Mujaheddins. After Russia was defeated, the US goverment broke all ties with the Mujaheddins, which caused the Mujaheddins to break off into two forces. One of those forces became the Taliban, and the members sought revenge on the US for abandoning them and using them as tools to fight a proxy war.

The Taliban were already armed with the most sophisticated weaponry (by Afghan standards, at the time), which kept any major Afghan influence from opposing their take-over of Afghanistan. This is when Afghanistan came into Taliban rule and the Afghans were enslaved and oppressed by the Taliban.

The other group of Mujaheddins became the Northern Alliance, which were opposed to the Taliban, and wanted to get the Afghanistan back in the hands of Afghanis. Their leader was assassinated a few years before the US invaded Afghanistan to kill the group they created.

the only thing 'new' i got aware of lately,
is that certain clerics in Indonesia....after a year of on site observations,

have declared that Muslims which practice 'YOGA' and chant Hindu mantras
are no longer allowed to do so --- as the Hindu influence is thought of as a corruption of the Muslim/Islamic state-of-mind

you forgot to add pakistan, as most the money was rooted through them to the Mujahadeen, Pakistan saw a disorganised and a country more in conflict in its favers and armed the fanatics while keeping moderates at arms length,

The US let this go on under its nose as it was in their faver
as the USSR was getting a fight on diffrent fronts so they didnt care about the rise of fanatics under their nose even so they were vocalys anti western.

Abdul haque warned the US on many occasions about the Taliban and their rise but was ignored due to the US and its forign policy, he soon was exicuted by the Taliban,

Can i just clear a few points inorder to help you guys. 'Islam' is the name of the religion and the followers are called 'Muslims'. It is a branch of the Abrahamic tradition.

For Beilefs please see www.masud.co.uk... different areas are covered about the religion & Analysis. The 'Prophet of Doom' i'm afraid does not refelect well on the religion. You have to learn about History and understand the context of how it was revealed. Hope it helps :-)

The problem is, being Islam, it is the largest religion in the world. Thus having more people in the small percentage extremists.

If all Islamic people felt this way, there would be much more terror attacks and they would be no rest for the world.

Just like any other religion, there are extremists who either define the holy books themselves, or take them literally, word for word.

This is the problem, no book is divine, all were written by the hands of men, decades, some even centuries after the events occurred.

Just like the KKK claimed they were Christian at the time, and still do, doesn't mean all Christians decipher the Bible the same way.

All words can be taken out of context, don't condemn a whole people for the actions of few.

Just because Catholic priests were touching kids, doesn't mean all the parishioners were too.

The greatest secular thinkers of all time have examined Islam, read its teachings, and found it to be an agent of destruction.

Are there moderate Muslims? Of course.

But when a religion requires all the world to become that religion, all of it, then that is a bit troubling.

Why does it not surprise me that you'd buy a book entitled "Prophet of Doom"?

Even less surprising is you've based your rational towards an entire people off reading this and likewise books. Probably handed it off to your friends to read too.

Try reading sources from both sides, as both sides ALWAYS have an agenda. Once you realize this, you may support neither, as I do, and just call BS when you see it.

What I meant was what's happening in Israel right now?

Well, 70% of the Muslim world is selling us oil and having a wonderful time.

However 29% of the Muslim world is complaining of unemployment and poverty, so the 1% that shouts "Death to the Great Satan" (which interestingly is where 90% of their money comes from) help the poor 29% from blaiming the 70%, the actual source of their problems.

Because of this the 1% is currently in leadership, and no good can come from people taking their anti-whoever rhetoric seriously.

Case closed.
